Dining rooms are required to ask diners are covid symptoms and possible exposure when they arrive. And they also have to give a contact for any possible contact tracing. A number of restaurants we talked to say they are gearing up for going indoors, but likely wont be ready for a couple of days. We have some customers that want to have the ambience of the old San Francisco, like the old grill. And theyre asking when . Today we have a lot of regular customers that want to come in for the first day that we open for Indoor Dining. The question now is will people venture inside rather than stay outside . I asked Infectious Disease specialist of ucsf and he says your table choice really depends on your own health and any preexisting conditions and your ability to be vigilant and really to have some selfcontrol. The bottom line is physically if youre an older person, again, with comorbidity, you may just want to find alternative ways to enjoy that life that you aspired to prior to covid by maybe dining outdoors, making sure that our numbers can sustain before venturing indoors. Once you get into an environment that you are so used to precovid that you had some behaviors that is almost like this reptilian part of your brain that says when im in this space i drink wine and i laugh and give corny jokes. But you have to really remember that there is still covid out there. Were still seeing cases in the hospital. Its a lot lower than it was in our second surge. But its still there. And we cant let our guard down. So, i directly asked the doctor if he feels comfortable to eat indoors. And he says hes going to wait a little bit longer. He is still a little nervous. He says hes really enjoying the ambience of eating outdoors. He says it makes him feel like hes in europe. The other thing he said that while he is mentally exhausted from dealing with this pandemic for the last six months, he says he is hopeful and a little bit, you know, more happier of the fact that he says we are moving in the right direction. So thats good news. Im thinking r g lounge for some food. Well see you at 6 00. Today an historic bill signed by Governor Newsom. It opens the door to the state paying reparations to black californians. I hope people recognize were moving in the right direction. And, again, i just recognize we have a lot more work to do in this space. And we are not walking away from that responsibility. California is the first state in the country to adopt such a law. It calls for a task force that will recommend how the reparations could happen, whether through compensation or restitution. The task force can also call for eliminating state laws and policies that perpetuate discrimination. Among those on the zoom call today was actor and rapper icecube who is a big supporter of this bill. Jeff ranieri joining us now to talk about the big challenges that firefighters are facing while theyre fighting this glass fire. Its been really all about the heat today, low humidity, and then we go back to some more wind as we head through primarily thursday evening into friday as well. And the other layer on top of this is a lot of us outside the fire zone, the air qualitys been okay. It hasnt been amazing. But today it got considerably worse. Were seeing what im calling this boom rang effect where a lot of the smoke that got pushed out of part of the bay area in the past few days is now swinging back in, and it did get unhealthy to close to hazardous here for parts of the east bay. I wanted to show you a side by side comparison. You have calistoga, very unhealthy to hazardous. And walnut creek you can barely see mt. Diablo, which is right back here as we are in unhealthy to very unhealthy, and we likely could teeter into the hazardous tonight. And on top of that 99 degrees out here towards the inland east bay. 93 in calistoga. 1 00 p. M. Thursday until 6 00 p. M. On friday, red flag warning as we are looking at a northerly wind direction 15 to 30mileperhour gusts in the mountains, sustained wind of 10 to 20. On the fire lines the real big thing i want people to be thinking about up there is if you have not been asked to evacuate yet or you decided to stay out in the evacuations youre watching us right now, were going to see that wind shift, and that would take the embers from the fire and blow it from the north off towards the south. So calistoga, angwin, st. Helena, kenwood, glenn ellen, even some areas of oakmont, youre all kind of in the path of possibly more of these embers and the fire spread as well. So if youre asked to evacuate, please do so. Its just going to be that kind of a situation. Winds dont look as bad as what we dealt with, but they are definitely going to be gusting up in the hills. I dont just want to say its windy. I really wanted to give you a look at how things will pan out for us. I do have the wind speed, but i really want you to focus in on the colors that are going to show up. And you can see the key at the top of the screen as we head through thursday, notice how the yellow, the orange, a little bit of red starts to pop. Thats in the mountains where we could get up to 30, 40mileperhour wind gusts. And friday well start to see more of that wind popping again. So thursday, friday, we have that wind with us. Air quality, no better tomorrow. Well stay unhealthy here across the entire bay area. Temperatures are going to stay hot. Well be right at about 100 to 102 for the east bay. 99 in napa, 78, San Francisco, 95 in san jose. I have 60s back in San Francisco even into next week so thats some good news. And are for the inland valleys were dropping down to 89 saturday, 85 sunday and more cool weather as we roll through next week. Coming up at 6 00 ill talk about the longrange outlook and what i see happening over the next 10 to 45 days. Well be dealing with temperatures and also some rain prospects. So well have more on that at 6 00 p. M. Tonight. Were looking for any sort of good news, jeff. Thanks, jeff. Coming up next, a trip to yosemite is about to get a lot easier.
