We have some low 80s for the south bay as well as much of the north bay. We know this has been a record fire season. I wanted to go over it because across the state weve had so many acres burn during this record season in 2020. Fires have burned 3. 6 million acres and if you do the equivalent 5,625 miles. And par weve seen an increase, its climate change. Our temperatures warming up and an increase of 2 degrees has caused more acres to burn and this includes last year. We had a record season just a couple years ago. We know that as we head into fall we get these diablo winds, hot weather and possibly an event this weekend. A high risk above normal fire season. Were also following the new details on a fast moving brush fire in belmont. It really threatened homes and is now under investigation this morning. Firefighters had to pour water on flames as they were approaching one enabled. They called in outside help in an effort just to save those homes. While crews worked, Police Officers knocked on 40 doors telling people to evacuate. Youll have to evacuate. We started seeing the flames and then the helicopters started coming and fire trucks and, oh, my goodness, it was hectic. He said hes never seen sales like this. He knows a lot of businesses are suffering up there and tells us demand has been unprecedented. In livermore its been a double whammy. First the covid restriction of Outdoor Dining only and then the recent bad air quality from the wildfires which kept people inside and away from restaurants. Were trying our best. We have the tents up and will find a way to reach out to guests and say bundle up and come out. Thats all we can do. The city has a grant system for us where they do 50 of what we spend which helps out a lot. Setting up walls and tents is very understandable as long as ventilation is attended to. Plenty of air circulating around to disperse any respiratory droplets. Reporter health experts, doctors, tell us they are reminding us to not put your guard down when it comes to wearing your mask even while dining outside. Reporting live, bob redell, today in the bay. It is so important, youre right, bob. Lets take a look at those covid19 by the numbers. More than 15,000 people have died in the state, but the good news here is the Positivity Rate has dropped a lot. Now just over 3 and hospitalizations are also trending down. And the curve, they say its really flattening here in the bay area. Case numbers are down to where we were before summer even began. In the south bay only 2 of people being tested for the coronavirus are coming back positive and just 109 people hospitalized for it. Those are the lowest numbers since late june. Santa clara county is in the red tier of the blueprint and has been for two weeks which means schools can reopen for inperson classes tomorrow though most are staying online. One doctor believes fewer people are going to the hospital because most covid cases are in young people who dont have as severe symptoms and testing is helping. Scott mcgrew, it could affect some senate races. Yeah, it really could. Susan collins and Lindsey Graham. Well get to him in a minute. Especially if the fight over the Supreme Court interferes with the fight for more stimulus money. Remember the senate has still not been able to get anything done there and there are only eight days until the government runs out of money. The senate needs to deal with that as well. President trump says hes not worried. Well, id much rather have a vote before the election because theres a lot of work to be done. We have plenty of time to do it. Theres really a lot of time. Lindsey graham, youve heard this sound bite before im sure, youre going to hear it again and hear it a lot. Because other than president bush saying read my lips, no new taxes, and then raising taxes, really never in modern american political history has somebody promised something on tape. This is the issue whether trump should get to nominate a Supreme Court judge in the last few weeks before the election. Here he is in 2016 saying that will never happen on his watch. I want to you use my words against me if theres a republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say, Lindsey Graham said lets let the next president , whoever it might be, make that nomination, and you can use my words against me and you would be absolutely right. That was back when the democratic president , barack obama, wanted to nominate a judge in the last year before the election. Democrats insisted that was a legitimate move. Now, of course, democrats are saying wait until after the election. One of the arguments theyre making is were just weeks away from the election but really already in the middle of it. Several states have started early voting this is video from virginia where people were so eager to vote they stood in line the very first day. It was an election year, not in the midst of an election. Theres a big difference. This has never happened before in the midst of an election going on right now. And if i get fined, i will have to pay the fine. Im very sensitive about all of that and i apologize. So what hes talking about is that he was asked about his mask during the game which was constantly down around his chin. Something the league will likely fine him for. As we go through this forecast were enjoying a few more days like this but also we are going to see a stronger westerly wind thanks to the system that moved through yesterday. You probably noticed those winds picking up yesterday evening. Theres another storm right behind that that will reinforce this nice, also seasonable weather were seeing right now. As that quickly moves on, well see High Pressure building and thats going to come in right behind that we start to see the winds flowing around that blowing our winds offshore. This could be our first definite offshore wind event weve had as our temperatures ramp up and our air quality will go back down. We have a few more days of good air quality.
