As people across the nation remember the impact Justice Ginsburg had on the fight for gender equality, one bay area man has a very personal story. This is jim wallace of San Francisco. He says that in 1972, his High School Math teacher, paula wiesenfeld, died during childbirth, but her husband was not entitled to any Social Security benefits because he was not a widow. At the time only women who lost a spouse were eligible. Justice ginsburg took the landmark case and won. She sued all the way up to the Supreme Court, and she won equal rights for this man and his son for his ability to be able to collect sole Social Security benefits the same as a woman would under the same circumstances. Justice ginsburg also argued that wiesenfelds contributions to Social Security were not treated on an equal basis to a mans salary, so she and not just her husband were being discriminated against. It was one case of several where againstbu disneybu. Next weeks cover will honor ginsburg. The bay area hoping to avoid more unhealthy air. A live look right now at San Francisco. We did have a spare the air day today for much of the bay area, but for parts of the peninsula, it was green. It was clean, and it was a whole lot better than its been. It looks like yosemite is timely getting a little break too. The air quality is now at a moderate level. Earlier today it was hazard ours. The park remains closed because of the creek fire burning nearby. That fire only 25 contained. Lets bring in rob mayeda, who is tracking it all and has im hoping some good news. As we go through the today tomorrow, you notice more smoke dropping into parts of the north bay and east bay. Weve got an air quality advisory due to some localized areas of smoke up towards the north bay. The numbers here back in the moderate range. We do expect even better air quality as we head into the new week. We talk about that and who will see 90s in their sunday forecast coming up in about eight minutes. Thanks very much. The country has reached a milestone in the fight against covid19. More than 200,000 americans have now lost their lives to the virus. Data, making sure that security requirements are met. Walmart would control other aspects of the Popular Video app. The deal, though, still is not finalized, but tiktok wont be restricted tomorrow after getting that thumbs up from the president. Conceptually i think its a great deal for america. Theyll be hiring at least 25,000 people. It will most likely be incorporated in texas. It will be a brandnew company. Tiktok struck a deal with oracle this week allowing the company to move its headquarters to the united states. Tiktoks original owners, bytedance, will retain majority ownership of the company, but security will be handled by u. S. Companies. Weve got a warmer, cleaner day coming up. Is that what youre saying, rob . Yeah. Were going to have at least a taste of some 90 degree temperatures making a comeback for some of the valleys as we actually wrap up the last full weekend of summer just like that. Fall gets started on tuesday, and right on schedule well see some cooler temperatures around that time. Right now mostly 50s and 60s outside but check out concord still sitting at 71 degrees. Thats one of the spots tomorrow i think that has a good chance of seeing some 90 degree temperatures and a little change tonight in San Francisco. Not seeing as much in the way of low clouds. Currently 62 degrees. Highs earlier today were in the 70s. Out towards walnut creek, a little bit of haze, some smoke, but at moderate levels. Currently 71 degrees in walnut creek. San jose, temperatures right now at about 68 degrees. High of 81 earlier. And tomorrow should see mid80s around downtown san jose and from south san jose down towards morgan hill, good chance of seeing some low 90s as we wrap up the weekend. So the numbers that are probably the most important, especially over the last few weeks, has been the air quality. Technically moderate tomorrow, so were not in the spare the air orange or the unhealthy red. But if youre in mendocino or lake counties especially, there could be some areas of smoke at times during the day on sunday. So notice the extended forecast here for air quality. A lot more green showing up as the sea breeze turns stronger and our temperatures actually cool down for the first half of the week. For the morning, patchy low clouds. Temperatures in the 50s to start the day. Notice the high temperatures during the afternoon. Thats where the biggest change is going to occur for your sunday. Low 90s around morgan hill, san martine. Trivalley to concord, low 90s in the forecast. Bayside a bit warmer. Upper 70s near oakland. 80s for hayward and towards fremont. Bayside, peninsula temperatures in the 80s. Half moon bay, close to 71 degrees. San francisco the mid70s for tomorrow before the sea breeze picks up. And north bay temperatures for a day should be in the upper 80s to low 90s. Now, the forecast is interesting. Were going to see a pretty tremendous amount of rain for the pacific northwest, but it doesnt quite make it here. But well benefit from that pattern because the storms that pass by to the north will keep High Pressure in check and likely keep that sea breeze going for us with some coastal drizzle at times. Stay tuned in the sevenday forecast. This is going to be interesting to watch as we head towards next weekend. After that system clears, we could see some pretty strong High Pressure build in, a lot stronger than what were seeing tomorrow, which may involve some offshore winds and the potential, i think, for some hotter temperatures. As we look at your sevenday forecast, tomorrow the warmest day well see for a while until we head towards next weekend. That includes San Francisco with better air quality for most of the week. And valley temperatures tomorrow briefly in the 90s. This is a oneday warmup and then those numbers start to come back done as we go through the week. I do think were really going to have to watch next friday and saturday. Potential for some higher temperatures and as we know, unfortunately as we move into fall and into early october, it is that time of year were going to have to watch for those north winds. Might see some of that headed our way by next weekend. Back to you. All right, rob. Thanks so much. Lets check in with Anthony Flores right now. Hes at home. Hes got sports for us. Anthony. We can do those two things at the same time. Now, the as will go for the series sweep on sunday. To the links, the third round of the u. S. Open played in new york. The notorious rgb was not without a sense of humor. In one speech she recalled advice she got on her wedding day. She never forgot it. It pays, mother said. It pays sometimes to be aite deaf. I have followed that advice with only occasional lapses, not only at home but in the places i have worked and even in relating to my colleagues at the Supreme Court. Ginsburg was 87 years old. Sharp as a tack, committed to her work on the court right up to the end. Great advice, hard to follow. Yeah. Saturday night live is next. Good night.
