Shorter wavelength colors like green, blue, indigo and violet end up reflecting off of the smoke and bounce back up wards. Meanwhile long wavelength like red, orange, yellow travel farther and pass through the smoke and that is why the sky was the orange to the red color everywhere. I am tracking two systems that could help to stir up the atmosphere. We are tracking that and when Northern California could get big relief in terms of rainfall. Thank you very much. Further south the creek fire and the dolan fire in Monterey County sending smoke throughout the state. The bear fire part of the fire that smoldered for weeks exploded overnight spreading 100,000 acres in 24 hours, the sheriff announcing the fire has become deadly. Unfortunately tonight i have the sobering duty to report there are three fatalities today. In butte county 20,000 people are evacuated. One family tried to escape their home and had to shelter in a swamp until fire crews cleared a path across the bridge. We were trapped for eight or nine hours. This bridge was on fire. We couldnt get out. To the west the august complex fire burned 421,000 acres becoming the second largest in state history. The clouds of smoke from west coast fires spreading across california, including the creek fire east of fresno that continues to consume part of the Sierra National forest. As of tonight they rescued 385 people by helicopter. At the dolan fire 14 firefighters overrun by fastmoving flames were forced to deploy emergency shelters like these. All of these fires covering california with smoke and concern for what happens next as firefighters try to get the upper hand. Tonight flames scorched than 86,000 total.
