Fire and the czu and the scu fires in the east and south bay. We are watching smaller fires in marin county. Lets show you the take away from the fire lines today. More people are being back to see their homes. For some everything is gone and others seeing their homes spared. More evacuation orders are being eased. Many other orders and warnings are in place. Victims are being encouraged to register with fema as soon as possible. A closer look in the north bay of the lnu complex fire. A lot of destructions left behind. This is the highlands neighborhoods where homes have been damaged. Nearly 360,000 acres charred and five people lost their lives. Crews are focusing their efforts and hoping to keep the fire making its way into calistoga and people in berryessa are being let into take a look at their homes. Nbcs Jodi Hernandez is live. Reporter dozens of houses are destroyed. We are standing at the hills above the lake. You can see a couple of those destroyed houses. Normally this is an area that would be filled with boaters and summer activities at this time but that is not the scene tonight. This is everything i know and it is my whole life. Reporter the 29yearold never lived anywhere but berryessa highlands. The place we grew up in is anything but peaceful when the lnu lightning complex came roaring in. We never thought anything like this would happen. Reporter the four safely evacuated but their house did not make it. Came back to our nice, new reality of we dont have a home. Reporter the California National guard is escorting residents back into the burned zone to savage what they can. Many houses have been destroyed and others are still standing. Ramona murray is grateful hers is spared but hurting for others. It is so hard everybody lost everything. It is devastating. All we can do is pray. Reporter i think we are still in shock. He said this is the third or fourth time they had to evacuate. Just wondering gee is this the year we are going to lose our home and this is the year. Reporter while they love berryessa, they say it is time to move. But kristen foreman says she cant imagine living anywhere else. It is a special home and it is a piece of heaven in the middle of chaos sometimes. Being here even with the house burnt down, i still feel like i am at home. Reporter we are back here live, you are looking at what used to be a house with a beautiful view of lake berryessa. It is gone tonight. Now some houses and many houses have been destroyed and others like this house next door have been spared. Thats what we see when we come out to fires hike this, they are just you never know the pattern or why. Houses somehow is burned and others get half by. Residents are allowed back into check on their houses. They have to be out at 5 00. Everybody is out for the night and until tomorrow. A lot to think about in that story, thank you, jodi. The Santa Cruz Mountains now. A second person has died in connection of the czu fire. That fire is 20 contained. Officials say a 63yearold woman was found dead inside her home in the fire zone. 538 structures have been destroyed. Thanks to volunteers and technology, thousands of homes are being saved. Lets bring in our nbc bay areas marianne favro. Reporter raj, the Fire Department is made up of all of volunteers. They live in this community and they know this area like the back of their hands. It is that information that helped them in this fire fight and enabled them to save nearly 40 homes. Reporter we found house after house burned to their foundation. Flames broke through this area of brooke dale. Theyre hot and intense. You do what you can to try to save as many houses as you can. Reporter for 14 years, a family calls this home. Today whats left is a chimney. They saved as many as 40 homes. Without the 30 or more guys come down to save these houses, we would never be able to save these houses. Reporter this video shows the fires. The technology is so critical that three additional cameras have been installed in the fire zone to detect new fires and flare ups. This gives the cal fire eyes to get Situational Awareness and if it starts to blow up and wind changes directions or if there is a new fire start, for example, then theyll have to do triage. Reporter scarborough is providing tools and chains for the firefighters as they continue to protect the community. Firefighters also use small vehicles like this one to get into those remote areas. The scu complex fire, fire crews are still working hard to get the upper hand. 266,000 acres containment now at 25 . 20,000 homes remained threaten and three responders have been hurt and 31 structures have been destroyed. The woodward fire in marin county, the conditions are making it difficult to attack the flames by air because of the low visibility. This is the fire burning. So far that fire has burned 3,000 acres. Tonight it is 5 contained. Firefighters are making Good Progress here. There are still some troubled spots this evening. Lets take a look at where they are and that new and more detailed map we are dealing with. Yeah, here is the wide view, raj, as you are talking about the fire, the woodward fire there. Cal fire is trying to work on the south end of the fire to ensure it does not make any progress towards celina. The wide view of our area is mapped out here in orange and the red spots are thermal indicators showing us hot spots. Here is whats astounding to me. When you talk all of these fire perimeters and add it up, it is about 800,000 acres, 1200 miles, convert it to Something Like we understand is like the city of washington, d. C. , the district of columbia, 18 times over. It is incredible. Lets go to the scu fires. South bay, we see them up on the north side and on the south side. Here we have a core of evacuations orders surrounded by warnings all over the place. In morgan hill and gilroy, you are not off the hook. You got to keep an eye on the television to make sure you know if it is time to evacuate. Zoom now over to the czu fire, we can see some hot spot in the south and as well as up in the northwest. The good news is evacuation warnings have been lifted on the side of the fire. At the core, we still have an evacuation order. Well talk about the lnu fire in the north, sonoma fire and napa county, same situation here, the good news is we have not seen any progress up in napa of the fire towards places like youngville. Take a look the past half hour when we are setting up for this live shot, we saw more smoke building up from the mountains here and the smoke heading here towards livermore. This is one wine makers are close limon ly monitoring their. Reporter a wine maker at the livermore winery. There is concerns over what the smoke is doing to the grapes. Once grapes get fermented then it will get released again and thats where you will get the smoky and ashy campfire aromas. Reporter they wont waste this years crops and members will still get a taste of 2020 in bottles two years from now. She hopes members will be back in a couple of weeks when the smoke clears. Local officials blame the change on the Trump Administration putting pressure on the cdc, quickly organized a News Conference made it clear that the county will not be following those cdc guidelines. People without symptoms do not need to get tested even if they have been in direct contact with someone who has the virus. I didnt believe it or it seems bizarre. The center of the storm will be going over port arthur texas and also close to lake charles, louisiana. That kinds of looks to be ground zero for this hurricane. A storm surge of the coast of 10 or 20 feet. Family or friends living on the coast they have to evacuate because of the storm surge. Air quality is the best it has been since the fire started at this moment because of that fog helping to ak lict like a big f and pushing the smoke out of here. You can go outside and breathe it in. No problem. Moderate air quality from napa and san jose, thats a drastic improvement for us. Tomorrow i do think there is a chance we could see some locations back into the unhealthy category in the north bay and east bay and south bay. If we get better containment, all of these numbers will be going down and that would be some good news for us again. Fires, three of them, you all heard it. If you have been watching us or tracking one of the north bay and south bay and Santa Cruz Mountains, i want to get a closer look, i have also highlighted the fires, 5,000 broke over niepght. Thats a sign that firefighters have been getting a better handle at it. Tomorrow wind gusts of 20, 90 degrees.
