Across mill creek yesterday, open for cal fire to do their made a push to the east and is but when you head over to job and to get those evacuees to dublin, the air quality is much continuing to push south towards worse. And we are still getting hazy, safety. Something to think about. Guernevil no time for the beach. Smoky sunshine right now. Looking at the air quality, guerneville, we have plans in kris, thank you so very much. Weve seen the wind shifting place for protection of those lets take a look at what our just a bit due to the return of communi downtown san jose Traffic Camera that coastal fog. Communities, but a lot of work caught this morning. And so our air quality, where has to be done. You can see flames coming over you see the yellows, the reds, significant struay coming the ridge. And the purples indicate where off the stewart. This is near the lick well continue with that today. We have the worst air quality observatory. Lets turn to nbc bay areas bob right now. And its especially bad right redell in san jose. Moving over to the lake county bob, what do you know about the now in concord, where were seeing highest the wind direct observatory . Did it make it . Side, well start up on top. We had the fire in jericho webl believe so. Valley yesterday thatad and the wind speed, its coming significant push, and then the i just received an email from morgan fire fro campbell the lick observatory, high atop and green and spanish, those fires are all combined now and mt. Hamilton on a clear day, you towards the southeast, and so continuing to push down into can see the white domes up for the south bay, were seeing there, that is the historic rumsy canyon and backing down observatory. Been up there for i believe its it moving away from the city, into rumsy canyon. But it is moving into parts of 133 years. As they come down highway 16, the east bay. Anyways, theyre going to give as we look at our temperatures us an update earlier today, but for the afternoon, notice that they just released this time we wont see these highs over the plan is to go ahead and hold lapse video. Highway 16. I want you to take a look at were reopening the dozer lines this. 100 degrees. You can see thep ere and then t were looking at mostly some 80s from the rocky fire and and 90s for the inland areas. Where weve seen the biggest jerusalem fire in 2015, i flames starts surrounding one of the domes and eventually, the believe. Were reopening those dozer change has been along the coastline. Flames subside, the sun comes and notice the fog that starts lines to come across the top and to return later on tonight. Up, and its clear. That may also cause those winds down to the napa county line. So by all appearances, it to pick up just a bit, but it moving down, another very active also brings in some higher situation. The etna fire that took off, one appears that the observatory humidity. And then as we go into the next survived. Its hard to tell if theres any couple of days, were still of the last fires to start two damage or maybe smaller looking at more of the same days ago, was very active during structures were not aware of. We also know that this morning, the day yesterday. Weather pattern with the coastal cal fire reported that zero fog, but still some hot valley continues to burn towards pope structures have been damaged or temperatures. So our sevenday forecast shows valley, significant structure highs in the 90s and so this defense going on in there, lots destroyed. Will be our time to try to get of structures, lots of and we know that the lick infrastructure in this area. Some control over these fires, observatory might have the san this fire will, if it hasnt because it will heat up a few already, will burn all the way luis obispo Fire Department to more degrees over the next few and tie into the backside of the days. Well have more updates on these spanish fire. Fix. You can see how steep and were doing structure fires as well as other news, protection, trying to keep it hazardous that terrain is. Coming up after the break. Out of the communities, out of here is the latest from latest the structures and we anticipate it tying into here. Is for the scu lightning complex so moving down, coming off the peak down here, both fires, a contra costa, directions, the dozers last night, were bringing dozers off santa clara. So far, its just over 137,000 the peak here, going both directions down towards 128 and acres burned. Only 5 containment. Working south. So you have a plan in place to primarily on the main fire, which is the canyon fire. Two in build this western edge. Weve got some additional resourcesbuding this western ed structures threatened. Now, a number of people have going to be one of our main been ordered to evacuate, priorities today. Including the hernandez family, we come down towards across who live near the tsai country club, which incident is at the we love our new home. 121, and down into the vacaville theres so much space. We have a guestroom now. But, we have aunts. Fairfield area. Bottom of mt. Hamilton, right the fire made another off of alum rock road. Youre slouching again, ted. Significant run yesterday. Even though they are many, many expired, expired. Crossed i80. You probably saw it on the news miles away from the fire, the last night. Expired. Thanks, aunt bonnie. Lots of excitement. Hernandezes are taking the order 80 was closed for several hours. Seriously. A couple of hours ago, they its a lot of house. Fire was on the other side. Packed up, drove off, left their i hope you can keep it clean. At least geico makes bundling our home we picked up the spot across 80, and Car Insurance easy. Somewhere in the 50 to 5,000 home where theyve lived for the which helps us save a lot of money acres. Its contained and were now past 38 years. There are so many fires, oh, teddy. Did you get my friend request . Building back up from 80 to work theyre spread so thin. Uh, ill have to check. Up into Gordon Valley and doorbell ringing aunt jonis here so, yeah, im and hopefully get this spot and for bundling made easy, go to geico. Com. Piece tied in. Hello . Where the fire ran down into vacaville two nights ago, were doing really good. The fire, stuff thats still burning poses a very significant threat to structures. Were working on getting all of that cleaned up. Hopefully there wont be any further push down into vacaville. Were trying to keep any additional structures from being lost. So weve taken dozier line and crew work and go on county road 87. And the fire operation last night, went about eight miles, so this map is not completely updated. We went about eight miles up. Going to finish that tonight and be tied into aspardo. The bottom side of this fire and th blue ridge will be all interior and the blue ridge will go ahead and burn again. And again, well be holding highway 16 in rumsey canyon, all the way back up to where we tie in here with the morgan fire. Thank you. Okay. Thank you, chief. Next, we would like to get our Law Enforcement speaker and Law Enforcement partners, sarah mark essex to come up. We have a brief message from Law Enforcement. Good morning. My name is mark essex. Im the sheriff of sonoma county. Im here to speak to you on behalf of the sheriff and other Law Enforcement partners. Got a mic problem. Here to speak to you on behalf of the sheriffs and other Law Enforcement partners who are supporting this incident, that includes napa county sheriff, Solano County sheriff, lake county sheriff, and others, including chp, as our Law Enforcement partners. Right now, we have mutual aid responses coming in to the area from the bay area and outside areas, to bolster our Police Response. Our Police Response is there to assist with evacuations, to keep evacuation zone clears, so that fire apparatus and personnel can fight fires. And to ensure the safety of property, once people have evacuated. Peace officers are in the area to assist with evacuations by providing guidance, answer questions, and directing people to safety. We know this is very stressful, so you can count on your Law Enforcement partners to be there and answer your questions and guide you to safety if you are scared or concerned. We want to remind you that when to do so so calmly, yet quickly. We also are concerned that many people are pulling over on the sides of busy highways and roads to take pictures and view the fire. We really urge evacuate. When you pull over to take pictures, it creates secondary traffic hazards and problems for evacuations, so please continue to move through the area. Which also brings me to a reminder that evacuation areas are dangerous. Once an area is evacuated, we do not want you to reenter that area. We have had reports of people reentering evacuation areas and theyve had to be rescued. When we have to rescue you from an evacuation area, it adds to the problem. Please stay out of those evacuated areas. We want you to stay informed, so of your Law Enforcement partners on social media, which includes twitter, facebook, and instagram. And we encourage you all to continue to take care of each other, check on your neighbors, and help each other. Were going to get through this together. Thank you. Thank you, sheriff. Now well have our unit for the. Thank you. Good morning, my name is shauna jones and im a unit chief for the sonoma lake napa unit. I want to touch on a few things. Over the last five years or more, many of you have been evacuated and many of you, your families, someone you know, has lost their home. It is a very stressful time. All of us, your First Responders understand that, and were here for you. I want to take a moment and share and reiterate the message that sheriff essex and all of the folks behind me have said to you. Please be prepared. Please, when asked to do so, please evacuate. Its important that you do your part so that we can help you. Its going to take time. This is a very large fire. Its one of many in the state of california and honestly, our resources are stretched very far. So please be patient, were working hard to put out the fire. Be alert, Pay Attention to media, and be aware of your surroundings. Thank you, have a good day. Thank you, chief. Now our incident commander, chief kavanaugh. Good morning and thank you for joining us this morning. First, i would like to start off with my condolences to pg e. Yesterday afternoon, wednesday, august 19th, 2020, a pg e employee was locating his vehicle in the gates canyon area, unresponsive. Cpr was performed on the individual individual. The employee was transported by ambulance and pronounced deceased. The employee was in the gates canyon area clearing infrastructure, power poles, and lines to make the area safe for emergency responders. So once again, please keep the family and pg e in your thoughts and our condolences to that individual and his family. What i would like to do now is start with talk with a little bit of the fire update. Im going to give a little bit more detail on some acres and what we have. As chief blankenheim talked about in the operations briefing, the hennessey fire is now the fire of the gamble, the green, markly, the spanish fire and morgan fire that all combined yesterday. The toll for that fire right now is sitting about 105 acres, as of this morning, with zero percent containment. Moving and thats for napa county. Also with napa, in lake county, is the etnaacres. Moving down into sonoma county,r morning, and actively burning overnight and the marist fire was approximately 3,000 acres. The fire upoughly 4,000 acres as of this morning. As chief jones just alluded to and we talked about yesterday, this is a large geographical area that we have. Were in five counties. We have large incidences that are burning. One of sneeze incidences alone is what we call a team. Thats what could be a team incident, alone. Especially the stuff thats going nondisclosure sonoma coun county. The resources we have now, hopefully over the next few days, theres going to be some allocation of more resources with stuff coming from out of state. There are fires that some small fires that in some of the other counties that have containment lines on. Hopefully well be getting some of those resources pulled off comfortable totally leaving those smaller incidents that have containment lines, but well try to get some of those resources to us. Same with the Aircraft Assets that we have. I just want to make it very clear and make no mistake about it, we have a very largescale incident here. Normally, even for us and the teams and i know the communities over the past year and the incidents theyve had here, were used to lots of resources. And thats not where were at today. With the amount of fires and large fires that we have throughout the entire northern california, were just one small piece of the Bigger Picture there is, in that bigger view. We have to share the resources, we have to make good operational decisions and priorities. With that, communications, with everybody make as an ic on evacuations. Thats standing up here with us i talked about it with our cooperators at 10 00. Cooperations from everybody, for us to i am always going to side and mitigate these and be successful. As we move forward looking at err on the side of life safety. I will not sway from that our plans, starting today and decision. But on the other hand, well get forward, were basically for us people back into their homes as quickly as we can. As a team into this thing, just i dont want to see people over 50 hours. Dispersed out of their home. Looking at organizations, how i never want to be dispersed out were doing it, and allocating of my home and i know you dont either. I ask to be patient. The best resources we can for we have to make sure its everybody. Every single county, every single community, every single safe get back in your home, not person is a top priority for us. And we want to make sure that we only from the fire standpoint, but also utilities. Are trying to meet those needs to mitigate the last thing well ever want to do is an evacuation, repopulation, and another evacuation. So with that, i appreciate the cooperation we have. I appreciate the communications we have. And were going to get through this. So thank you very much. Reporter thank you, chief. And well have time for just a couple of questions if theres any questions. Yes, sir . Im wondering specifically about the fires at the summit yesterday. Wondering if it had made it into any of the residential areas . As of yet, no. So were reopening some of the lines that we opened in 17 when the fire was going the other direction. It would be top of the line coming from the other way. Oue g close to some backyards, but damage up there and any place thats coming into the community, the fire has been stopped. You have been listening to a live news briefing with cal fire and other officials up in the north bay, where the lnu complex fire continues to burn in napa, sonoma, lake, solano and yolo counties. 131,000 acres burning up there. The main headlines there, that they have several fires on the north end that have been combining, north of lake berryessa. Their plan here on the north is to hold highway 16, with a plan to work on the western edge to prevent the fires from continuing to spread toward highway 29 and places like fire
