State superintendent tony thurman joined us on today in the bay to talk about this unprecedented new school year. We asked about a range of topics but he talked about the stah e single and working parents in the age of distance learning. Some School Districts are working for a child care pod for parents. 90 are opening with distance learning. Those that can will create a child care pod that creates an opportunity for working parents. Some School Districts are asking for waivers that allow them to open up small class sizes in the grades from kindergarten through 6th great. I know our districts are working hard to create some options where they can for working parents. Just encourage everyone to continue to be safe, continue to wear face mask and social distance. Once we flatten this curve, we can get our kids back where they belong, in school and in person. Certainly that is the goal for a lot of people out there. Thurman also saying the pandemic is the biggest challenge for our lifetime. He says also there are ways to ensure children get a quality education. Biden praising harris as an ideal governoring partner calling her smart, tough, experienced. She knows how to make the hard calls. Shes ready to do this job on day one. They also underscored the moment with harris becoming first black woman to join a major party ticket. All across the nation little girls woke up, especially little black and brown girls, who so often feel overlooked and undervalued in their communities, but today today just maybe they are seeing themselves for the first time in a new way. Joe, im so proud to stand with you, and i do so mindful of all the heroic and ambitious women before me. With the covid shottened campaign now in full swing, the democrats delivered a scathing indictment of Donald Trumps presidency. America is crying out for leadership, yet we have a president who cares more about himself than the people who elected him. President trump said he did not watch his opponent but did take aim at harris. Shes very short on facts. I think shes going to be a big failure. And doubling down overnight, a Trump Campaign email calling harris the meanest, most horrible, most disrespectful, most liberal of anyone in the u. S. Senate. The days most poignant moment came when biden noted the friendship harris forged with beau when beau served as state attorney general. I know how much beau respected kamala and her work. That mattered a lot to me, to be honest with you, as i made this decision. Beau was the kind of guy who inspired people to be a better version of themselves. And when i would ask him where did you get that . Where did this come from . Hed always talk about his dad. That was Andrea Mitchell reporting. Now its time to head back inside and find some air conditioning. Lets go through our temperature friend for today. Were going to start out at noon at 88 degrees, but that will not be the hottest temperature today. Well reach into the mid90s by this afternoon peaking as we go into 3 00 to 4 00 and also more clouds moving in. As we look hour by hour for all of our microclimates, we see humidity going up. We look at the afternoon and were at 91. San jose also reaching into the 90s in some spots today. As we go into taupe, well start to see it clearing out for a little while. You can check out that sevenday forecast as it comes up at the bottom of the screen and going into dinnertime with hot weather outside. Our temperatures tonight, due to increasing humidity, wont be as cool as it was earlier this morning. So we go into tomorrow morning starting out with some upper 60s and low 70s. That will set the stage for hot weather even when we shaded in d will be included in a heat advisory that includes the south bay that moves to the trivalley and delta, inland north bay, extending lake and mendocino counties starting at noon tomorrow and going each day through sunday as our temperatures reach over 100 degrees. That highest humidity will be tomorrow. Thats when we really need to take it easy. Look at what all is happening just to our south. This is rain and thunderstorms. They have really gotten active as we start to see temperatures heat up. This is due to remnants of a tropical system bringing in rain. Its as close as paso robles and San Luis Obispo as it rolls north moving close to the bay area. This is coming out from that tropical system and going to bring us higher humidity. Some of our computer models are keeping a chance of rain for parts of the south bay, possibly santa cruz mountains. I dont know if it will make it all the way in but look at the time line. Were looking at 3 00 in the morning for the possibility that we could see at least some of the higher humidity, possibly some rain, maybe even some lightning in the mix. So a lot of concerns here as we get ready for some hotter weather and then also look at the cierra where there will be storms fire up. All right. Lets go through this sevenday forecast. Were in the upper 90s in our hottest spots inland today. Tomorrow 104 degrees with some humid conditions, a few clouds passing at times. Then on saturday, 101 degrees. Although the humidity will be dropping and well have several days of triple digit temperatures, San Francisco will be in the 70s.
