The Alameda CountySheriffs Office says there were about 100 inmates positive with covid19 at the end of last week. Now there are just 37, 24 of which are asymptomatic. Since the pandemic began in march, the jail has had 196 inmates test positive. San francisco has paused reopenings indefinitely as it tries to once again get control of the covid19 spike. But one thing that has never been allowed during the pandemic was large weddings, and thats why one San Francisco church is in hot water with the City Attorney. Nbc bay areas robert handa has the story of the wedding that had to move and the outbreak that followed. Reporter the iconic saints peter and paul church was apparently too much of a temptation for a couple to resist. They planned a large wedding here and appeared to have done so with the churchs blessing. According to emails obtained by nbc bay area, the City Attorneys Office followed up a complaint about the planned july 4th event, and not only discovered 100 people would attend, but the pastor seemed to understand the gathering would violate the Public Health order. A parishioner we talked to said he could see how it could happen. Theres a lot of momentum that happens around a wedding, and its hard to be socially responsible. Reporter at the City Attorneys request, the wedding was moved outdoors to a connecting basketball court. But according to the San Francisco chronicle, the bride and groom and as many as eight other participants may have contracted coronavirus. Another email also reveals the City Attorney had already warned the San Francisco archdiocese in june about hosting other illegal weddings. A spokesman for the archdiocese said it doesnt supervise the activities at its 90plus parishes. Pastors do. The pastors office at saints peter and pauls church declined to comment. One parishioner called this a perfect example of why the covid19 numbers are spiking. The general public can start visiting wednesday. A month ago zoo officials warned they were running out of money and might have to close permanently if they couldnt reopen soon. Were not like a retail shop or restaurant. You dont turn the lights off and go home. We got a living population of animals. The zoo is limiting daily attendance to 2,500 visitors. They said they believe they should generate enough income to keep going. Visitors will now have to buy tickets online and wear masks on zoo grounds. It looked like a terrific day to visit the view if youre one of those lucky members who got to go. Lets hear about what it looks like for the rest of us. The general public is going to go later in the week, jeff. What can they expect . Were going to have some beautiful weather, garvin. We have that nice bay and coastal breeze moving in, so not too hot if youre headed out to oakland over the next couple days. Usually this time of the year we can get extremely hot, 100 to 105 degrees. But theres a couple things working for us here this week to keep that 105degree heat away. Let me show you what im tracking in the atmosphere as we roll through this week. Its two different systems that have developed in the pacific. Now, this first one here, tuesday and wednesday will continue to push some slightly cooler air closer to us. Then by thursday and friday, this one more off to the north will also help to keep some cooler air close by and well have the fog at the coastline. So all of that again is keeping some of this hottest airway back in the Desert Southwest away from us. So that will give us a really nice week ahead. Now, well start off with another round of low clouds and fog for the morning. Of course thickest near the coastline, also right up here into marin, napa, sonoma counties. Then some patchy cloud cover for contra costa, alameda as well. Then down here towards the south bay, some fog towards gilroy. Sunshine returns for the afternoon, and thats going to really make it a beautiful day. Youll see as we start off tomorrow morning, temperatures in the 50s for the south bay, peninsula, and the trivalley. Have you down to 58 in the east bay. The north bay at 56. What about for the afternoon . I think the south bay probably has some of the best weather with 82 in san jose. Over to the east bay youll find the most enjoyable weather in hayward at 77. It does get hot over to livermore, 90. The peninsula coming in with a mix of 70s and a few low 80s near palo alto. San francisco, i have 50s and 60s with that ocean breeze out of the west at 18 miles per hour. Down to 59 in the marina. Then off towards napa, sonoma, santa rosa, more 70s coming back in, even some 80s with 79 in santa rosa, 86 in napa. My extended forecast in San Francisco has that morning fog continuing over the next several days. So no break or change in that with 60s for those daytime highs. Right here for the inland valleys, were going to 92 tomorrow and well see a steady trend here of upper 80s and low 90s over the next seven days. Fire season also is a big concern this time of the year, but the good news to report on that, no extreme wind events over the next seven days. So that of course is going to be good here for all of us here in the bay area with that situation. Exactly, jeff. No high winds, no 100degree temperatures. Thats all good news when it comes to fire danger. Thanks so much, jeff. It is. You got it. Coming up next, a covid19 vaccine by the end of the year . At least one drug maker thinks so. The critical next step in testing before it can get fda approval. And happening now, more giant retailers are joining the list of stores that will be closed on thanksgiving this year. If the vaccines prove to be safe and more than 50 effective, they will likely get fda approval. Today modernas president says a vaccine by the end of the year is possible. What obviously you want to see is the vaccine reduces the number of cases of covid19 in people who receive the vaccine. A total of four drugmakers are now either in phase three or close to starting it. Googles headquarters will stay quiet a while longer.
