Reporter late saturday night someone set fire inside one of the entrances of the courthouse. Workers spent most of the day repairing the damage and boarding up windows. They will continue sandblasting and Power Washing the graffiti in a week. We celebrate passionate protest, but oaklanders need to know that when they attend protests after dark they may be providing cover or agitators, more intent on soaking unrest than social justice. Not just in oakland, protesters hit the streets across california. Several hundred people showed up for a second demonstration this weekend in solidarity with the movement in portland. The demonstration remained mostly peaceful. But at one point protesters were blocking the streets, forcing cars to find different routes. More on the protests nationwide, including the situation in portland coming up in 12 minutes. Taking a look at covid19 cases here in california. The state now has had more than 453,000 cases. 8,300 people have died because of the virus. In the bay area cases also surging. Alameda county with 10,000 cases all told, the most out of all counties in the bay area. Bay area with 46,000 cases. Santa cruz officially on the states watch list. More restrictions are likely over there. Any county on the watch list for three or more days must close several kinds of businesses, indoor gyms, churches, malls, hair and nail salons. After having a very flat curve, so to speak, for six months, the county of santa cruz has experienced a steep rise so the curve has gone exponentially rapidly climbing over the past three weeks or so. Reporter 8 of the 9 bay area counties are also on the governors watch list, the only one thats remained off san ma day you county. Another inmate has died from covid19 complications. The death toll there is 18 after a serious outbreak. There are still more than 600 active cases among inmates. Well, a change of scenery coming for a covid19 Testing Center in the east bay. Were talking about at cal state east bay. In the past some very long lines there, but its closing up on friday. And the Testing Center is moving to sky west golf course. Thats in haywood. It starts august 3rd, one week from tomorrow. Another business forced to shut down for good because of the pandemic. The bookstore in oakland announced it will close stores permanently at the end of this week. The owner of the store said this is because of the uncertainty that the pandemic has brought. The store front had been closed since march, so it has been selling books online. Thursday the store will have a socially distant goodbye celebration. Well, that much anticipated second economic stimulus package could soon be reality. Republicans expected to introduce their bill tomorrow. The president s economic adviser larry kudlow said today the relief includes 1,200 stimulus payments to americans, an extension of the federal Eviction Moratorium as well. Should parents let their parents have a summer without limits or keep them on a strict schedule . I asked the experts. What are you recommending parents do this summer . I think moderation is going to be the keyword. We actually recommend that parents practice mindfulness with their kids. I think we need to think about our new normal and what can we do to make it so that it is appealing and exciting for your kids. They say younger kids require more guidance. Try setting up short ten minutes activities of them. Ten minutes of colors. Ten minutes of sidewalk chalk. You can fill up some time and theyre not getting bored at any one thing. Teenagers need more social interaction, but that can be difficult with social distancing rules. It is a conversation about limit setting, letting them make some choices. You might not hold so tight to curfew, but you are going to hold tight to who they congregate with. But kids of all ages, set up quarantine groups. All of my instructors were College Students that were just really interested in the fields that they were going to. They were so passionate. While there is no one size fits all approach to parenting during a pandemic, our experts say start by taking care of yourself. An attorney suing kizer says many victims with Spanish Speaking women of color. In a joint investigation, Investigative Reporter candace wynn hears from kaiser and the key victim in this case. Reporter the woman was Sexual Assaulted at this kaiser. She knew her attacker was a predator and they allowed him to keep working. Jane doe is a Sexual Assault vic similar, so we are not revealing her real name. She says she cant drive by the medical offices anymore without remembering her doctor appointment there in 2017 and kaiser exemployee. Absolutely everything about the moment of the assault. Castanon was only allowed to provide basic patient care. Jane doe says she was shocked when she was alone with him in an examine room and his questions got very personal. He started asking me about my ring, if i was engaged. He locked the door. When i went to grab my purse, he came up from behind and held my hand. He made he touch his private parts. Reporter he was convicted of Sexual Battery against jane doe in 2019. But new Court Documents show accusations that he had a long list of victims. Nurse themed porn on his work computer and still stayed on the job. According to documents filed in the lawsuit, there were at least six other alleged victims by him while he worked at caser. He physically examined her when he wasnt trained or authorized her, cupping her breasts and touching other parts of her body. She said she reported it. Another kaiser patient says he told her he wanted to stay in the room and watch her undress. She said she reported him. Kaiser concluded his behavior was inappropriate, but he continued to work with female patients. In 2016, one month before january does attack, he was accused of Sexual Battery. It is unclear if it involved a patient. The misdemeanor charge was dismi dismissed. Why was he still working at kaiser and with patients for so long. Has there been any patients. Police body cam video shows what his supervisor may or may not have known at the time. To hear an officer speaking with her shortly after jane does attack. I havent had any formal reports of any unusual behavior. One patient who just said, you know, i just feel uncomfortable with male medical assistants. The way that kaiser and kaiserrelated entities are organized, it seems like there is a real silo. This attorney represents january doe in the ongoing civil case against kaiser. But when there is no coordination and there is no one tracking solo to silo, department to department, things fall through the cracks. I want them to listen to all their patients. During the weeks of our investigation with nbc bay area, kaiser declined our request for an on camera interview and instead sent us a statement saying in part we failed to live up to our commitment. When it happened, we acted quickly to terminate the employee and cooperated with law enforcement. But our goal is to prevent things from happening in the first place and we didnt do that this time. We should have recognized behaviors earlier and acted sooner. Liberty says kaisers practices continue to put patients at risk which is why jane doe says she is speaking out for other potential victims and for her children. They told me, if you are such a strong person, why couldnt you do anything to prevent it . He completed three years in prison and now has to register as a sexual offender for life. An artist wanted to show his appreciation for Health Care Workers in new york, so he created the perfect gifts. Kate snow reports. A special delivery from thousands of miles away. 1,800 paintings. One for every Single Person who works at interface medical center. I was there when the truck arrived. It just reminds me of how others who werent there with mnt a lo back in march, he watched as work Health Care Workers battled covid19. I also personally felt really powerless, powerless and frustrated. So he began to paint. I cant paint one for everyone everywhere, but i can paint one for everyone at one hospital. Wanting to honor front line Health Care Workers, especially those working in underserved community, he did a search and found interfaith. He called this project strangers to no one, simple paintings, each one a single flower. If you love somebody, you give them a flower. For a month, he painted not with a brush but with a syringe. At the hospital, nurses and doctors, janitors and administrators all received their own work of art. Sheila, an account representative, has worked at interfaith for 35 years. She contracted coronavirus and spent eight days in the hospital back in march. They told me i had to fight. Her sister patricia passed away from covid19 in april. I was devastated. For her, gittis painting is a symbol of her survival. Not a big portrait, but it represents a big part of what were going through. And though they have never met, interfaith staff feel deeply connected to him. It is absolutely not one person i come across that dont love the painting. That love passed on from california to new york with each unique flower. I just hope that everybody is reminded that theyre important and that there are literally millions of people that love them. They have been working closely with victims to help them heal. A group was started for teenagers. The location alone has helped survivors. A lot of people didnt want to go outdoors after the shooting, so they didnt want to be out in an open space. But coming to the ranch where the horses are there, its a very peaceful kind of secluded setting. So what people express to us is that they felt safe here. Therapists say working with courses helps victims remain confidence and trust. The Organization Also works with veterans.
