Reporter a sunny weekend in oakland where tim stops by. Hes heard the city has asked people to give the lake a break amid the pandemic. I understand the position. But people are tired of being crammed up in their apartment. Reporter the city has noted crowded weekends and taken steps to report it. I think now is lighter. Reporter people are urged to avoid gatherings in backyards and parks, avoid clustering and spread out. The Roots CommunityHealth Center which shared data that in july 40 of covid cases were tied to people at family events and parties, almost double the rate of those at work. I see folks not Wearing Masks at all, sharing food, drinks, smoke. Weve got to do better than this. Reporter oakland saw a big surge and Enforcement Teams were expected to address vendors without permits. And park ambassadors were out too. As long as people are social distancing, we have to have somewhere to be able to go in the city. Reporter meantime, people stopped by for fresh air and sun. She sat alone and said she follows the guidelines but takes steps to not feel isolated. Thats the least we can do right now because we want to get through this. The darker the area, the more cases they have. Take a look at this. As dark as it is there, that is oakland. Zip codes reporting upwards of 2,000 cases per 100,000 people. Hayward also showing a lot of cases among the cities with relatively few cases, how about berkeley and also over here in dublin. Whatever youre doing in those two areas, keep doing it. Hospitalizations on the rise as well. Blue bars representing the number of patients hospitalized be the virus each day. This is hospitalization. Last month, june 18th, 77 and stayed about that way. Toward the end of june, things started to pick up. This became the new normal. Take a look at the end of the third week of july, july 23rd. More than 200 cases in Alameda County. As of thursday, 201 patients hospitalized. That nearly triple the number of patients in just a month or so. Alameda county continues to be the hot spot, as we mentioned, the only county with more than 10,000 reported cases. As you see, San Francisco lower than 6,000. Santa clara county, 8,800 there. 750 people have died. Were learning a firefighter with the Petaluma Fire Department tested positive for covid19 earlier this month. The station where that firefighter worked is closed for cleaning. You can see crews in full body suits, masks, sanitizing that station. Also members who were in close contact with that firefighter are also in isolation. While the station is closed, the nearby adobe Fire Department will respond to emergency calls. Flags will be at half mast in honor of a Police Officer who died from the virus. She reportedly contracted the virus in june in dublin. She died thursday night, less than 24 hours later, the department announced a nonsworn staff member also died from the virus. Today Governor Newsom said the deaths are real and painful reminder of the risks that our essential workers face. Last night we reported on the rising number of businesses closing their doors. Now we learned a popular pizza place in San Francisco is shutting down temporarily. The owner of square pie guys in soma says its because of exposure to covid19 inside the lau restaurant. It will be deep cleaned. All team members will get tested for the virus. Covid19 testing continues in Santa Clara County this weekend as more test sites prepare to open. This was the scene at San Jose High School today as the demand for tests remain high. Next week, the county is adding two additional testing sites in san jose and one in gilroy. Two sites will use a new wristband system so people dont have to wait in line all day. They can come back at the designated time. The idea is to have fewer people waiting around at the sites. Tests are free. You do not need an appointment, symptoms, or insurance. Theyll all open up starting tuesday the 28th. They will operate until friday the 31st. Cases are surging down south. Florida now has the second highest covid case count in the nation behind california. According to data from johns hopkins, in the last 24 hours, florida added more than 12,000 cases. Thats the total number of cases there above 414,000, surpassing new york with 411,000 infections. Now, the case count has passed new york, so you can see significantly fewer people have died from the virus. Another sun belt state getting hit hard by a covid surge is texas. Now the first hurricane of the season is making land fall there. You can see those big waves and the strong winds hurricane hanna is bringing to the southern part of the state. Meteorologist rob multiply yet at that is tracking hanna for us. Theres another storm heading toward hawaii, right . Zbliet a very active start to the Hurricane Season in the gull of mexico and North Eastern pacific. Lets talk about hurricane hanna which did make landfall a couple of hours ago. This is south of Corpus Christi. You see on the radar view the outer bands and the eye wall there. Now that hanna has moved inland, we will see continued weakening to a Tropical Storm during day tomorrow, make the turn off to the south and west into northern mexico. By this time tomorrow, the attention shifts to hurricane douglas, sustained winds at 90milesperhour. Hurricane warning has been posted for the island offoahu. They could be looking at category one hurricane strength winds or strong Tropical Storm. Again, this happening also in the next 24 hours. Protesters in portland continue to clash with federal agents sent into the city by president trump. Racial justice demonstrations remained relatively peaceful until late into the evening when federal agents tried to disperse the crowd. Fireworks were set off. Minutes later, there was tear gas. That storm will continue to weaken, become a Tropical Storm, bring a lot of rain into northern mexico. Our next attention turner is whats happening with hurricane douglas here approaching the hawaiian islands. We think the storm during the day tomorrow will make the closest approach to the northern most islands. So, hurricane warnings are up in honolulu and kawhi is the northern side of the island. Well see very intense rain and wind with hurricane douglas. For us, not much wind other than the sea breeze. Low clouds and misty skies start off the morning. You see clouds retreating to the coast for the afternoon. If you liked today, you should like tomorrow. A little bit warmer inland. San jose mid 80s. Numbers in this 90s around livermore.
