Not a lot of wind to start the day, and the smoke from the mineral fire thats been burning off to the south kind of settles into some of the interior portions of the east bay and south bay. On that topic for air quality we have a smoke advisory today across the inland east bay and areas around the Santa Clara Valley, especially south of san jose for the afternoon with moderate levels of smoke pollution for today. In terms of the temperatures hourbyhour, 50s and 60s right now. By lunchtime we should see 80s inland. Eventually today, the warmer of the two weekend days, looking at low 90s inland. Around the trivalley, towards concord and near morgan hill, but beginning tomorrow we will see some changes. That number has to 80. As San Francisco urges people to stay home, marin county breaks a record with 106 cases in one day. That county now preparing for what could be a longterm surge if transmission isnt controlled. We could see some ongoing surge certainly in the weeks to come and potentially in the months. Marin Public Health officials have launched a mobile covid testing unit to try to trace and contain outbreaks, now worried about a dual flu and covid19 season. Hospitalization levels are stable right now but they are prepared to add capacity at a site near the Marin County Civic Center if needed. San francisco is the latest county to be added to the governors watch list. That makes eight out of nine bay area counties on the list, all except san mateo county. The San Francisco resident was shot and killed by Vallejo Police last month when they responded to reports of a rooting at a local walgreens. The department has since released body cam footage showing one of its officers firing at the 22year old from the back seat of a Police Vehicle through the windshield. That windshield a key piece of evidence, has been destroyed. Thats the reason why pelosi is now asking for federal intervention. The San Jose Catholic Diocese is now responding to an investigation that found School Officials at Presentation High School did not report Sexual Misconduct allegations. Last week Presentation High School issued an apology to former students who spoke about the abuse. The Catholic School confirmed many of the allegations after a monthslong investigation reporting. The report found the abuse started in the 1980s through 2013. The San Jose Diocese says it is disheartened to learn of the findings of the report. It says two staffers accused in the report also worked at the diocese. An independent investigation will now look into those staffers and their past interactions. Now to east bay. Fire crews busy throughout the night trying to put out a mysterious fire at the holiday bowl in hayward. Look at this massive fire. Flames raging, smoke billowing from the building. Lets start you off with the low clouds, fog and in some cases drizzle showing up this morning. Right there near San Francisco you have cloudy skies, temperatures in the upper 50s with more sunshine inland. Over towards walnut creek you see the haze in the sky, a little bit of smoke, at 59 degrees. We are seeing similar conditions around dublin and the trivalley, 59 degrees. A little bit of the smoke higher up. Into san jose, too, a little taste of the smoke drifting up from the south, at 59 degrees. For the inland, east bay and south bay we have a regional smoke advisory due to another day due to the smoke from the mineral fire burning to our south. The good news is as the wind starts to pick up and now that the sun has coming it will help mix the atmosphere better and help improve the air quality we are seeing outside this morning. As the sea breeze picks up, ay the bay area. As i show you the temperatures for today, theres the spread of 60s and 70s from the coast into the interior bay. We may briefly get close to 70 degrees around downtown San Francisco as skies clear. Oakland in the mid 70s. You see san jose in the mid 80s. As you said to the south, even south san jose, morgan hill close to 90 degrees and trivalley up to concord seeing some 90s in the forecast. A lot of low clouds for the morning. They will back off briefly towards the coast and return as we head towards 7 00. Now, keep in mind if you have plans up toward the sierra, watch out once again. We will see a quiet morning followed up by some pretty active weather for the afternoon as mid level moisture continues coming up from the south. You are seeing some thunderstorms flaring for the afternoon, so we could see localized flash flooding issues, some hail and also some gusty winds, too. Some of the stronger storms expect to fire up mid afternoon around the sierra. As we look at the temperatures for tomorrow now, notice if you look closely, livermore and areas south of san jose may try to get close to 90 for one more day. Now, by monday, look how much those temperatures start to drop. Low to mid 80s inland as the sea breeze starts to turn stronger. Thats going to allow our inland temperatures to start to drop off. For the coast, obviously that means even cooler temperatures with some low clouds and fog. So High Pressure at its strongest to start the weekend, then we see the more mild temperatures coming in with a trough of low pressure across the west coast leading to the cooling we see midway through the sevenday forecast. As we go through the week we will see High Pressure Building Back and temperatures starting to climb. Not too hot but trending warmer heading to next weekend. San francisco, the warmer of the two days is today. A breezy finish to the weekend as we head to monday, and valley temperatures climbing to upper 80s tomorrow and trending cooler, closer to average heading into early next week. It led her to the east bay to be a coach and teach pe in the Oakland Unified School district. Now through her nonprofit vertical skills, shes using boxing to fight social injustice. Saturday she is hosting a gathering called stand up and knock out racism at San Antonio Park in oakland. Weve got to stand up. Stand up and have these hard blacks and brown communities. Reporter according to the governors benchmarks, schools can return to classes when the counties theyre in drop off the states covid19 monitoring list for 14 days straight. Schools and counties will have to be able to provide regular covid testing for staff and Contact Tracing for schools and districts will have to maintain structured Distance Learning plans. Some students, parents and teachers are voicing frustration that classes will remain online when School Starts up again in a few weeks. Sometimes you will be on a zoom call with the teacher and she will just stop. You wi mto students facetoface, so who is going to teach my children . Who is going to sit with my own kids . Danielle franko says returning to Classes Online will be much more demanding when they abruptly left School Buildings at the start of the pandemic. Investigative reporter Candice Nguyen shows us the story you will only see on nbc bay area. Reporter last month early horizons preschool in sunnyvale got the call it had been dreading. Two siblings attending the daycare tested positive for covid19. Reporter when you got the call this happened, what went through your mind . It is immediate what is our first reaction, what do we need to do, what do we need to do to make sure everyone stays safe and it is not spreading. Reporter the director says the parents started feeling sick on a wednesday but dropped the kids off at daycare because they were unaware they had covid. They didnt have any symptoms while they were here. Reporter on thursday they still felt ill and kept the kids home. They got tested and found out the whole family had the virus. Thats when they called early horizons. We shut down the school. Called parents, had them pick up their children and, yeah, shut the school down. Good morning. How are you today . Reporter in the north bay, a similar scare, the ceo of the Childrens Center got a call in may twoos to a covid positive aunt. The children later tested positive. So these are kids that never would have been tested. They were asymptomatic. Went through the checkin every morning, taking their temperature. Reporter both facilities say they prevented an outbreak. The virus as far as they know did not spread to other children or staff. The kids were already kept in groups of 10 or 12 called cohorts to minimize exposure. We shut down that cohort, that classroom. So all ten children were tested, all of the teachers were tested and all of the parents of those children were tested. They all tested negative. Reporter but not every Child Care Center has been as successful. New state data shows nearly 1,000 covid19 cases linked to licensed child care facilities. The number includes staff, kids and parents and shows a 12 increase since last week. Broken down 170 cases. It has by far the most facilities open during this pandemic.
