Berkeley City Council Voting in the Early Morning hours to end Traffic Enforcement by police officers. The decision came down just about 90 minutes ago after a marathon session with many residents sounding off. Traffic enforcement is just one part of Police Reform package that was adopted by all but one city councilmember. We are looking through the hours long meeting and will have much more coming up at the top of the hour. Now to our road to recovery. Alameda county is officially asking the state for permission to resume dining outdoors. Bob redell is live in livermore, a city that has allowed Outdoor Dining to continue despite what the state says. Bob . Reporter correct, marcus. We have cities like livermore behind me, dublin, pleasanton, oakland, hayward. Theyve allowed their local streets to shut down and allowed Outdoor Dining to continue even though the state issued an order friday night for Outdoor Dining to shut down in Alameda County. Yesterday the Alameda County board of supervisors gave the county approval to apply for that variance which is basically permission from the state to allow Outdoor Dining. Its not clear when that application will be submitted and when the state will issue its decision. Restaurants have been doing Outdoor Dining since midjune. Last week, late last week, friday night actually, the state said it must stop because the county hadnt applied for the variance which caused a lot of confusion and, again, the pushback from cities like livermore. The county is waiting for a go ahead for the First Time Since its shut down, the oakland zoo ceo tells us the financial situation is dire. Theyve already run out of their federal ppe money and still have 2. 5 million a months in operating expenses. That must come from somewhere. When the zoo reopens, rides, playgrounds, indoor exhibits will stay closed. The zoo would limit attendance to 2,500 people per day. Reporting live in downtown livermore, bob redell, today in the bay. Today the state superintendent will publicly support districts efforts to roll out the new school year. Hell do so in a News Conference were expecting later this morning. In the meantime last night the San FranciscoUnified School District decided to follow many other districts to start this fall with distance learning. The plan would allow students to return to campus in eight weeks if theres a dramatic reduction in cases. At 3 00 p. M. A group of families will have a car caravan starting at San Francisco city college to protest the possibility of students returning to the classroom. A followup and possible new fallout for one of the contractors tied to San Franciscos public works scandals. City attorney Dennis Herera wants a contractor and company to be banned. Hernandez is accused of bribing a public works director mohammed nuru. There are proceedings to have that Company Banned for competing for contracts for five years. Developing this morning new controversy in an already Controversial Police shooting. Relatives of San Franciscos Sean Monterrosa say authorities have destroyed evidence tied to his killing six weeks ago. Thats when officers responded to a lotting report and investigators say one officer mistook a hammer for a gun. The family Attorney Says after asking the City Attorney to preserve the evidence, relatives learned most of it is gone. Now this evidence is gone forever. Once they put the truck back into service, well never know what condition it was in at the time that night. Now we did reach out to the police chief and City Attorney for comment. They did not respond. Last week Police Released body camera video of the shooting, and that sparked new controversy because the camera was off until after the shots were fired. New details for you in the recent vandalizing of a black lives matter street mural in martinez. Two people seen in that video there are now facing misdemeanor charges with hate crime enhancement. Now the east bay times reports that the d. A. Has received Death Threats ever since she filed those charges. Authorities have now been alerted in that area where she lives. Every threat is being taken seriously. Several north bay businesses are suing pg e for damages after the kincade fire. The wildfire was in Sonoma County last october. The press democrat is reporting more than 50 businesses, and people are looking for compensation from pg e. But pg e says the cal fire was not determined the cause of the wildfire or if pg e played a role in actually starting that fire. Cal train says its in danger of shutting down. Yesterday San Francisco supervisors rejected putting a sales tax proposal on the ballot to fund cal train. Now the plan would have to gain approval from three board of supervisors. Caltrain says that the pandemic is cutting 95 of ridership and that unless it can restore roughly 30 of riders by the end of the year. It will have to consider Serious Service cuts.
