The most we have seen in one day throughout this pandemic. Yesterday 140 californians lost their lives, and thats significantly higher than the twoweek average of 75 daily deaths. Heres a look at the latest numbers in the bay area. Nearly 32,000 reported cases thats overall several counties seeing a surge today. Santa clara county, we are keeping a close eye on. Santa clara county added 101 new cases, and San Francisco added 171 new infections. Alameda county continues to be the hot spot with more than 7,400 cases. We learned the governor added another bay area county to his watch list. Sonoma county got word today that if they dont improve their numbers by monday several indoor businesses will have to close their doors for several weeks, and that includes bars that would have to completely shutdown and movie theaters and museums and dining outside and wine tasting outside would still be allowed. Good news for families. The San Francisco zoo is preparing to reopen. Mayor breed announced today the city will allow the zoo to open to visitors with an approved plan. The next round of reopenings in San Francisco will include personal care businesses such as hair and nail salons. The mayor will announce next week when those businesses can reopen. Scrambling to reopen in santa clara county. Nbc bay areas robert handa has details. Its a barbershop that closed march 16th after the First Public Health order, but monday the boards come down. You will have to make your appointment in advance. Salons are not accepting walkins, it will be by appointment only. One of the barbers customers is willing to accept anything. We heard that spirit all day today but the Health Department said a hotline has been set up to report any kind of violations. Santa clara county is saying no to all indoor gatherings. Last week they opened the door for people to gather indoors in groups of up to 20, but not anymore. Outdoor gatherings with people up to 60 people are allowed with social distancing. San mateo county is one of four in california tapping into surge beds. Back in march the county readied the event center to bed covid patients, and the surge beds are located at seton. They may be taking patients from Imperial County near the mexico border which has the highest numbers in california. The situation is so grave there tents are set up in the parking lot of el centros main hospital. Also bleak the situation in marine county besides san quinton prison, we are learning a nursing home in san rafael is seeing skyrocket covid19 infections and some have turned deadly. We spoke to the countys medical director and has more from san rafael. Ten minutes from san quinton is this nursing facility, and the co county tells us its not just the residents getting infected but the staff as well. The web video is the closest you will come to walking into marins latest bay area nursing facility hit hard by the latest coronavirus outbreak. They may not have symptoms, and then they will see symptoms among the residents. So far at least 55 people at the san rafael nursing home facility tested positive for covid19. The marin independent journal reports three people there have died from the virus but its unclear how recently they passed away. The facility has been responsive and cooperative with us. Dr. Willis said the nursing home is burning through ppe, so the county is helping with more, and dr. Willis says contract tracers tried to see who else was there. Dr. Willis is asking everybody in the county, dont let down your guard and keep social distancing. We really need to do our best because we are fighting battles on multiple fronts. In san rafael, nbc bay area news. The School District in oaklands plan is Distance Learning to transition to inperson learning. The first phase is expected to last up to four weeks. School leaders say the timing of the transitions will depend on science, safety and support. Yesterday Presentation High School in san jose apologized for failing to act on past reports of abuse by staff members. Our Investigative Unit first reported on the accusations three years ago, and an independent investigation made public yesterday found credible evidence of abuse by five former teachers and a former coach. The school says its turned over the report to the San Jose Police department but today members of the group called snap demanded more. She claims he sexually assaulted her and poured gasoline on her and tried to set the house on fire. Fortunately he was able to escape. Deputies tried to get martinez to surrender. There have been high clouds moving over ahead today and up against the coastline you will see in the first graphic here we are looking at fog moving in. This is from mount tam, so this fog and the cooler ocean breeze, thats the only thing that saved us from getting 105degree heat right now. Could have been quite a bit hotter. As we roll through tomorrows forecast, upper 50s and low 60s and patchy fog near the peninsula, also at the immediate coastline. It will bring us down to 59 for the peninsula and 59 for the trivalley. As we move through tomorrow, no big changes on the temperatures. This will put us in the south bay with 80s and also a few 90s. 88 in cupertino. Over to the east bay near, hayward in the 70s. 96 in concord. The peninsula, probably some of the best weather tomorrow. 77 in san mateo and 82 in redwood city. Right here in San Francisco, 58 for the marina. A little milder in the mission at 67. Maybe you are headed up to napa, sonoma or santa rosa, upper 80s and low 90s. My extended forecast in San Francisco, real simple and very stable. 60s as we head through the next couple of days. You need the mesh wire and it has a quarter inch grid on it and its hard to see on camera, but its tight spacing so its hard for gophers or moles to chew through this stuff. You take your plants when you are ready. Of course its going to be out of the pot and you are going to take the mesh wire and it will cover up all sides of the plant and you will fold it up into the top and thats how to keep the gophers out of your plants.
