You will be on the outside. I will not give you the bottom. Thats how they race in the indy 500, block the bottom. I couldnt believe he got that big of a run on denny to get to his outside. How about the nerve to try the outside . Thats what i was surprised about. Three car lengths now. See if Kevin Harvick can close the gap up again. Looking for it. Custer, the rookie, check that out. You see hamlin, harvick, four wins, three wins and behind him the next four drivers, no wins. Aric almirola came down pit road earlier. Look at this restart. Maybe not. Amazing as much as harvick got hung up on the restart how quickly he got back to second. I thought he was done. I wonder if denny is running just hard enough, trying to keep the turn of the car, not burn the right front, running so hard. He knows what its like to be stuck behind that 4 car. He ran so many laps behind him. Maybe he understands how difficult it is to get that run and make the pass. All day long, Kevin Harvick has had a very good short run car. Junior, you mentioned it. Thats how they won last year, track position, held everybody off. Denny hamlin has flipped the script. He is out front trying to hold off Kevin Harvick. Hamlin has had the edge on a longer run. 18 to go. Another thing, i believe that harvick and his team trimmed his car out. Thats why maybe he was able in the early part of the restart with the newer tires to get such a huge run on denny down the straightaway. He is more trimmed out. Look at him drive up to the back of the 11. Thats not going to last because he will not have the grip in the corners. We will see. Junior, explained trimmed out. The car is trimmed out as far as the down force is peeled away. You can see the 11 driving away from him through turn one, through turn two. Down the straightaway, he really getting huge runs because it peeled the down force away to run maximum speed on the straightaway. On new tires, his best shot to get the lead back. We go longer into this run, the grip goes away from the 4 car. Garage area talked about looking at pictures, videos of the 4 car, how they are able to run that car trimmed out. Most drivers cant do it. They cant drive the car, make enough grip. Garage area talked about that. How good Kevin Harvick and rodney are at trimming that thing out and making it so even with that, Kevin Harvick can drive it. Harvick said the car is too tight. Explain that. Basically, the front tires are working like he wants. He cant carry the speed because the front tires will leave the white line. Lets listen in to what denny hamlin has to say. Its straightaway speed. That will die. Once it does, take care of your right front sf. Thats what dale junior was talking about. Less down force means for straightaway speed. Thats chris telling denny, everybody you see is the speed down the straightaway. As the tires age, that should hopefully go away as he struggles through the corner. 15 laps to go, Kevin Harvick is doing a nice job staying close. What about matt kenseth . He is close as well. He is trying right now to duplicate what three others have done in the history of running at daytona as well as running at the brickyard and thats win them in the same season. Denny hamlin probably one of the best drivers. Throw him into the same category at mark martin as far as best drivers who havent won a championship. He never won this race. Thats the only thing i believe that can help him get around this 11 car of denny hamlin. If denny can catch lap traffic in the middle of the corner thats the same thing that matt kenseth is hoping. Not a lot of lap traffic. If the 4 and the 42 can keep it close as we get late into the race, in the last handful of laps, there will be lap traffic to play out. Junior, i agree. Consistently for last five laps, matt kenseth has been the fastest car on the racetrack. Took four fresh tires that are about 12 laps fresher than what denny hamlin has and 11 fresher than Kevin Harvick. Its been a frustrating return for matt kenseth. Top ten in his first race at darlington. Since then, they have not been able to put together finishes. That is one of his best racetracks, matt kenseth having his best run back in the cup series.
