Its going to be seasonable, sunny, and i really dont think it gets any better than this. Were looking for highs for our warmest spots in the east bay, upper 80s in par north bay. We do have a clear commute right now on our traffic maps. Anytime you see green on the traffic maps, those are Speed Sensors that are showing the traffic is moving along just fine. I havent seen any slowing, chp. If there is anything lingering from overnight, which is good news, hopefully well keep the Holiday Light traffic. I know its a Holiday Weekend. In california the number of covid19 cases continues to go up, and there are now 240,000 people with coronavirus, more than 6,000 people have died. Now more than 7,500 new infections were added just yesterday alone following wednesdays record setting 9,000 new cases. Meanwhile here in the bay area more than 750 new cases were reported yesterday. Santa clara county confirms 178 new infections. Alameda county, though, saw the biggest jump with 226. And despite putting the brakes on reopening, theres now a reopening date set for hair and nail salons as well as gyms in santa clara county. Theyre set to open in ten days this is monday, july 13th. Also reopening on that day, child care and summer camp officer, she says it is time to rethink reopening. Were at a point in this pandemic when its Crystal Clear that covid19 will be with us for a long time. And so we need to adapt to a new way of being, a new way of living that keeps us all safe, and that allows us to do some of the things that we miss. Well, the Solano CountyDistrict Attorney is announcing her office will recuse itself from reviewing two highprofile deadly shootings involving the Vallejo Police department. Willie mccoy was shot nearly two dozen times by Vallejo Police outside of a taco bell in february of last year. He had fallen asleep behind the wheel with a gun in his lap. Investigators say when he moved his arm officers opened fire. The other case included Sean Monterrosa in june outside of a walgreens. Officers thought he had a gun in his waistband but it turned out to be a hammer. The District Attorney announced she is referring both shootings to the states attorney general. The current circumstances compel an outside review to not only restore public trust, preserve the safety of our community and provide confidence in the outcome. That announcement comes as calls for abrams to pursue charges against Police Officers involved or step back from the cases. Happening today, even though big gathering spots like beaches are closed, people are coming together to protest for racial justice. A Memorial Service put up by a group this is for the murders in palo altos johnson park. Well, the pandemic is ongoing and yet its not stopping people from flocking to lake tahoe for the long Holiday Weekend. A long line of cars and boats bumper to bumper all the way to lake tahoe. Some of those folks spent the night in their cars in order to get an early jump on the crowds. Others arrived as early as 4 00 yesterday morning. Some boaters are already being turned away because the campgrounds are all booked. Rangers are are banning fireworks. No bomb fires, no barbecues. There seems to be a movement of the urban areas, people are setting off fireworks. We hope that does not happen up here. This is not the place for fireworks. Half moon bay is reaching only 62 degrees. San francisco to 64. Some low 70s over toward oakland. While you head over to the inland east bay were up to 85 in antioch. This morning we have an urgent plea from the california highway patrol. They want your help in solving a crime. They say they want to find this van and its driver. They say it was involved in a hitandrun in martinez yesterday where a 7yearold was hit on a scooter and suffered major injuries this is surveillance picture of the vehicle as it drove away from the scene along vine avenue. There was a similar looking van captured on surveillance video, this area as well. The boy is in stable condition. Anyone with information on where that van might be, where that driver might be, is asked to call police. An update this morning on the orinda senior facility where some 50 residents and workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Thechronicle is reporting this morning the contra cos at that center. This is the orinda care center. The d. A. s office says lack of staffing and proper ppe is evidence of neglect. Now the outbreak at the facility began back in april. Meanwhile, more mask concerns, this time in oakland. This is where police are looking for a driver being accused of assaulting a mcdonalds employee. So that employee says that the incident happened saturday afternoon on san pablo avenue. She told the driver in the drivethrough they couldnt be served without wearing the mask. The man yelled racial slurs at her, parked the car, then came back and started to slap her repeatedly. She suffered minor injuries. For weeks now Governor Newsom has been pushing for californians to wear masks just about all the time, and now hes pushing for recommendations to take it one step further by making significant investments to encourage you to mask up. A simple piece of fabric makes a big statement. I care. Lets all do our part. That new Public Awareness campaign shows videos, billboards and social media messaging urging people to wear face coverings outside the home. This comes as disputes have been caught on camera around the country showing people upset about being asked to wear a mask. We showed you that yesterday.
