As we head inland were checking out our temperature trend and step out the door in the mid 50s and see it in the upper 70s by 1 00 today. Well talk about that warmer weekend weather. Mike, how is it looking for the commute . Laura is right, as far as the workweek goes the last work day and tomorrow is the holiday for many. As we look at the roadways, we see fremont where the crash has been a delay north 880 past mowry and final stages of clearing up. Activity on the shoulder and not in the lane. You mentioned you went to target yesterday, so did i. There are reminders when you walk into that store, as well. Still, we see these videos like this one of people fighting and tempers flairing ovflaring over mandates. According to a new poll, abc poll, those folks are in the minority. 89 of people polled say in the last week, they masked up every time that they went out last week. Thats nine out of ten people. In case you need a refresher, there is cases of how droplets are transmitted. They fly out of our mouths when were talking and how a mask can contain them and prevent others from inhaling them. In his first interview since the explosive story broke insisting he was not initially briefed because the intelligence peopley of them didnt believe it happened at all. I think its a hoax. Hospitals in some coronavirus hot spots are now beginning to run out of space and supplies. In hardhit houston one doctor telling nbc news that if cases peak there this month, he thinks hospitals will be okay, but any surges beyond that point could be a much bigger problem. Started around 2 30 and chp said that officer was called to a man passed out in a car on tarman and jackson. When they arrived, officers found the car was reported stolen. Officers set up the spike strips and they woke up that driver. That driver then tried to escape hitting the gas almost striking one of those officers. That officer fired one shot and he landed on the spike strip and then was hurt. That car got away. And its not clear if the driver was hit. Of course, we will bring you more updates as soon as we get them. And a follow up for you in berkeley. Council members there have agreed to cut Police Funding by more than 9 million. Thats about 12 over the Overall Police budget. Now, the council made that decision yesterday. The money saved will not actually be diverted else where this year, but instead, the back field the citys 39 billion budget deficit. Now, it is a double witching day because today is thursday and firsttime jobless claims. In june, we added net 4. 8 million but lost 1. 5 million jobs last week. Really its best to look at the trends and the trends are positive. Futures calling for a big jump on the open. Look at shares of tesla. Tesla the most valuable car company in the world. More valuable than toyota, though the fundamentals do not support that. Tesla is expected to release production numbers and tell us how many cars were built. And tesla said they could stay home and then they claimed they were laid off. Several reports say the nations top executives are willing to testify together before congress. Nolan then asked the ticket seller, tickets at work, to refund his money. He says he called a couple times and waited several weeks. When nothing happened, nolan asked us to speak up for him. We contacted the Florida Company that owns tickets at work and heres what it said. Its swamped. Never before has our industry been faced with this type of crisis and it may take over 45 days for approved refund to appear on guests credit card statements. Nolans wait was approaching 90 days. Bob redell joins us live in fremont this morning. Talk about what these workers are alleging, bob. Well, a number of things, laura. They accuse tesla of firing workers who refuse to work over concerns of covid19. They allege the ceo elon musk is covering up a covid19 pandemic in the fremont factory behind me. They want the plant to be shut down for a deep cleaning and among other demands, theyre asking Alameda County Health Department to do Contact Tracing instead of tesla performing this function as these workers allege. These workers will be protesting later today at noon outside of the Alameda County Health Department in oakland. Yesterday we reported on three former employees who say they were fired after accepting teslas offer to stay at home over fears of being exposed to the coronavirus. In may, musk sent a letter and stated if they, quote, feel uncomfortable coming back to work at this time, please do not feel obligated to do so. The Washington Post reports by the end of june tesla told the workers they had abandoned their jobs and fired them. Tesla hasnt responded directly but did say at a public hearing unrelated to this issue that its not true they fired those employees. Today is a big day in vallejo. Six flags is reopening and although it wont be for the ride. At this point visitors will only be able to see the animals. Meanwhile animals a that oakland zoo are still off limits. New concerns as the zoo may never open again. Cierra johnson is live at the zoo to explain why the situation there is different and so dire. Yes, good morning, marcus. The situation at the oakland zoo could be described as dire. For months they have been closed. They havent had that revenue from the customers and they have already run through federal ppp money and now zoo officials are hoping the county can step in and help. On a monthy basis it takes 2. 5 million to run the zoo and right now the oakland zoo is running on reserves and has about three months left of that money. Under the staged reopening process, outdoor museums were able to open under phase two but zoos are currently classified as phase three. The zoo ceo is hoping the county would consider shifting the zoo and the zoo visitors are hoping the doors simply stay open. Its creating memories. You know, it was part of our childhood. So, allowing them to experience it with us, its something very nice but if its taken away, its very unfortunate. Yeah, so, we have reached out to county fl os and ay officiat heard back. Three bay area counties are among those 19 statewide that are part of the new order. Solano, contra costa and santa clara. All experiencing new spikes in hospitalizations. Solano reopened its businesses three weeks ago and Business Owners said this recent order is just another blow. My employees came off of unemployment to come back to work only to find out three weeks later that theyre going to be, some of them will go back on unemployment, which is really hard. The governors new order will be in place for at least three weeks. For you this morning, San Francisco churches are reportedly in hot water with City Attorneys Office for violating public gathering rules. The chronicle reporting Dennis Herrera sent the archdiocese a cease and desist order claims theyre ignoring large assemblies and keeping Indoor Services fewer than 12 people or risk a temporary restraining order. The church issued a statement saying since the start of the pandemic it has been cooperating with the city and would actually continue to do so adding that priests everywhere have now win no notified. So, clearly, its still something that were getting used to. But if it can keep you from getting sick or keep other people from getting sick, i say you do it. As we look at our temperature trend, well be in the mid 50s and then well see it warming up today but its still going to be very nice and comfortable. Actually one of the cooler days of the week compared to what weve seen over the past several days. Looking at our High Temperatures in the inland east bay reaching into the mid 80s. Only the low 80s for the south bay. Palo alto will reach 76 degrees and low 70s in oakland today. While San Francisco will reach into the mid 60s in the north bay were reaching up to 78 in napa. Now, before you make any weekend plans, wanted to talk about this because we know that some people want to light bonfires and grill and may even want to light some fireworks. All of those things are not a good idea right now because we are in a severe drought.
