Its northern tilt towards the sun is going to bring us the summer solstice as the suns rays really shine right down on earth. Really at its center most point here. Eventually, well see shorter days coming our way. Earths Northern Hemisphere is tilting towards the sun and that makes it summer solstice. This happens tomorrow at 2 44. Thats going to give us 14 hours of daylight. So what does that mean for us . Well, its going to be a nice warm day with 86 in concord. 87 in livermore. 84 in palo alto. 60s down to half moon bay. The cooler ocean breeze. You can see through tomorrow, pollen will be moderate. Not too bad. Really all weekend long as we hit fathers day, mid to upper 80s. As we roll into next week, temperatures will be in the 90s. Again, a Beautiful Day out here right now. Im not sure, you guys probably cant see. Stay there, lucy. Are we back on camera, you guys. Were going to give you a little view. Look who is saying hi. Lucy, say hi to everybody. All right, you guys. Nice day out here right now. Well check in with you later on. Lucy is telling jeff, happy fathers day. Yeah. What a sweetie. Thanks, jeff. How pleasanton is making way for outdoor dining. Right about now, shoppers are walking down main street in pleasanton. Its cause for celebration and as Jessica Aguirre shows us, main street is having a coming out party. Theyre going to close main street from friday at 4 00 until sunday at 8 00. I can add the tables down the length of my street. Tell me about the experience, what it will be like in terms of who can be out and how its going to work. Yeah. Hopefully its a good experience. Getting our crew all back working again in the kitchen and putting meals on plates. All weve been doing is takeout for three months. Its getting everyone back into the mode. Our servers getting back to servi serving. Cleanliness is a key thing. As someone departs the table, it needs to be cleaned. They changed the quality of the product that we clean the tables with. Families can come. Everyone needs to be seated at once. Were learning a lot of the rules from the health department. The whole goal weve been learning is six feet apart. Our goal is to make sure bodies are six feet apart. Were following the rules as well. This will be the first time that youve opened for business again. Its the first time alameda has allowed outdoor dining. How significant a step is this for you in terms of the salvation of your business and overall main street, this little town like so many other place sns. Its huge for us. Weve been scrambling, finding a way. Our restaurant has been doing takeout and helped families through a nonprofit. We found a way to keep business going and keep active. To have people on our patios and allowing us to expand our patios is great for us. It will be exciting. Exciting for a lot of restaurants across the bay area now. Up next at 6 30, gearing up for his First Campaign rally in three months. The anticipation and apprehension on the eve of President Trumps appearance in tulsa. Plus, not just about demonstrations. Its about celebrating. Were going to take you to another Juneteenth Party in the bay area. Heres what we want everyone to do. Count all the hugs you havent given. All the hands you havent held. All the dinners you didnt share with friends. The trips you havent taken. Keep track of them. Each one means one less person vulnerable, one less person exposed, and one step closer to a healthier community. So for now, keep your distance. But dont lose count. Well have some catching up to do. Right now at 6 30, President Trump preparing for his First Campaign rally in months. It comes as the state holding the rally, its a new high in coronavirus cases. The rally is scheduled for tomorrow night in tulsa, oklahoma. People in the city were trying to block the rally fearing it could cause a new outbreak of covid19. Today the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled the rally can go on as planned. Its going to happen. The arena for the event can hold about 20,000 people. Members of President Trumps Coronavirus Task force, including dr. Fauci and dr. Birx warned the president that the rally could trigger an outbreak. That hasnt stopped the excitement of Trump Supporters who are lined up outside the arena. Really important for us in the midst of everything going on to come out in really great numbers and show our support to President Trump. We dont have to be a Rocket Scientist to know that this rally puts us at risk. The rally was supposed to be tonight but was moved because of juneteenth. The president tweeted warning that protesters and looters stay away. Juneteenth is taking on powerful new meaning. The annual holiday celebrates the day the last slaves learned they were free. It was after the emancipation proclamation. They push to name it a national holiday. President trump issued his annual proclamation for this day. Theyre calling on all americans to face the past so we can understand the present and chart a more just future. While some chose to Mark Juneteenth at a rally or march, they went with a more traditional celebration. Invited family, friends and neighbors to reconnect. Christie smith is in pioneer park where the with people toda who say juneteenth events are a tradition for them and others who say that this was actually their First Time Ever coming out, but the timing fell right. At pioneer park people gathered for a juneteenth festival. By Late Afternoon most were up on their feet. This event specifically is really for celebration, relaxation. It was led by uplifting black leaders. A group of students and Community Members, many who spent recent days marching in protests. They chose to make today a juneteenth gathering. We dont want our voices drowned out from our own holidays. I like that in the black community. Weve kept this tradition for years. Its nice to see that even people who arent black are celebrating with us. Ive never fwon a juneteenth. Been to many protests but its time to be allies. Black lives matter. There were families, food and upbeat atmosphere with speeches about this moment in time. Among those in the crowd, this woman. I was young during the she says the struggles of today shes seen before but believes the video of a Police Officers knee on George Floyds neck struck a new cord. The arrogance that he had as if im in charge and no one can do anything about it. She sees the protests but also wonders about real change. I believe theres been progress, but i also believe that we have not really grown. When i say grown, i meant like the real understanding of how we as people of color feel. She appreciates young people that are standing up and hopes the momentum continues. What i dont want to see is two weeks from now its gone. In santa rosa, Christie Smith, nbc bay area news. Juneteenth isnt just for the black community. In some ways its more valuable for the nonblack communities. An awareness and education that you might not have had before. Lets bring in pastor mike mcbride from the founder of the way church in berkeley. Pastor mike, thanks for being with us this evening. Were coming to a Pivotal Point here. Weve seen millions of americans protest in the past few weeks. Will this unity and energy die down . If so, then what . Its great to be with you. Happy juneteenth to my loved ones. I will say that it is indeed the case that the future is not yet set. It is not yet written. As a matter of fact, we are literally seeing one of the greatest expressions of unity across this country. 50 states people are protesting. One of my friends jokingly said it was like rocky road ice cream and now its like 31 flavors. Its indeed the case that the protests have united us. We cant stop at protests. We have to move to policy. We have to move to cultural shift in both the way in the way we imagine other were going to keep the pressure up. Thats what we have to do. Pastor mike, President Trump said, quote, i made juneteenth famous. Not sure about his choice of words. There is some truth to that. A lot of people werent aware of it or simply forgot it. Are we teaching black history accurately in our schools . Well, when we say a lot of people, i think we have to put a bracket on it. Some of us know that juneteenth is black folks independence day. We have always held this as a very sacred day in the struggle for freedom and liberation from the kind of oppression that is a part of the fabric of this country. When it comes to the larger country, one thing is true. Donald trump famous for sure, particularly structuralized racism. We should in all of our schools be teaching a broad specter of history that is not just about slavery, but about the amazing achievements and accomplishments of people of african descent across the world, the way theyve stood up civilization and certainly in this country. All of the many ways that we have been the primary antagonists for justice and pushing this country to live into its greatest hopes and aspirations. Yes, we must teach a broader amount of black history through the year. As we usually say in february, black history is american history. Everybody. Particularly in the bay area should know about these sacred days and the contributions and the struggles of black folks and other folks who find themselves living on the margin. You said something to your congregation, Structural Racism hurts white people as well. Tell us why. Its important for us to know that White Supremacy or hierarchy, it does erode humanity, even those who identify as white when god didnt create folks white. All of us have a cultural connection to land and to place and to space and to countries of origin that have a rich story. When we talk about Structural Racism and White Supremacy, that flattens our identity and over with a nation state model that does not carry the complexity of who we are. What we believe Structural Racism has to be confronted by all of it is because its like youre trying to get on a bus with only 50 seats and there are 150 people at the bus stop. Structural racism does not provide everyone a ride to the same destination. White folks have to realize that it is just not black folks, brown folks, nonwhite folks victimized by Structural Racism reaching for whiteness erodes your humanity. Your spirit and soul. It makes you less of who god created you to be. Pastor mike mcbride in berkeley. Thank you for joining us on this special day, juneteenth. Thank you for having me. God bless. Thank you to you both. Distance learning was challenging enough, but impossible for disadvantaged students who lack not just devices but adequate wifi. Tony leaned hard on the states Internet Service providers.
