Supreme court going to shut him down this week tomorrow they are going to say, were also making it illegal to wear suits that look like trash bags sorry, my man. President trump tweeted today about former National Security adviser john boltons new book and said, quote, wacko john boltons exceedingly tedious New York Times book is made up of lies and fake stories, said all good about me in print until the day i fired him. A disgruntled, boring fool who only wanted to go to war and never had a clue, was ostracized and happily dumped what a dope. Okay, but everyone already knew that, and then you hired him trumps like a mcdonalds manager who puts a golden retriever on the register and then gets mad about the long line it was never going to work in the new interview, former National Security adviser john bolton said, he believes that putin thinks he can play president trump, quote, like a fiddle i dont know fiddles are notoriously hard to play if anything, putin is playing trump like a drum machine. Yes, like this music. White house manager Kellyanne Conway told reporters yesterday that publishing former National Security advisor john boltons upcoming tellall book is a National Security risk and for once, ive got to agree with her the organizers of hundreds of lgtbq pride events across the world have announced that they will hold a virtual experience later this month, which will include speeches from former Vice President , joe biden and canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau but other than that, it should be a lot of fun. The senate yesterday passed a bill to spend nearly 3 billion on conservation projects unfortunately, its for the conservation of confederate statues. I know you but you cant let a beauty like that go into disrepair. The former ceo of Bumblebee Tuna was sentenced to three years in jail on tuesday for his role in a tuna price fixing conspiracy well, technically, one year for the price fixing and two years for bringing tuna into the courtroom it was evidence, you guys. This sunday is fathers day, the day we all pretend, what time is it where you are, counts as conversation new York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced yesterday that new york city is expected to enter phase two of reopening, starting monday, which is odd, since phase 40 apparently started last week. And finally, the ceo of netflix announced yesterday that he will donate 120 million to historically black colleges around the country the news was first reported as a new netflix category and that is a monologue. Thank you, termites. Weve got a great show for you tonight. The fantastic wanda sykes will be here. And well talk to judd apatow about his new movie the king of Staten Island. But first, this friday, june 19th is juneteenth, a holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States but not everyone is familiar with it. So, here is late night writer, amber ruffin with answers to frequently asked juneteenth questions. Theres been a lot of talk about juneteenth the last couple of weeks but some people have never heard of it before, and they have questions about it that they feel embarrassed to ask. So, i let some folks mail me their questions anonymously, and im going to answer them right now. Okay, question number one. What is juneteenth . Okay, great question juneteenth is the anniversary of june 19th, 1865. Thats the day the last american slaves were freed. Otherwise known as, the last good day in black history. No, im just kidding a little bit. Its the day we celebrate our freedom, and see how far weve come okay, next question. Didnt the emancipation proclamation free the slaves in 1863 . Why then is juneteenth based on a day in 1865 . Glad you caught that yes. After slaves had been freed and the civil war was over, some people in texas still had slaves and would not let them go. They held onto them for an extra 2 1 2 years. And then, they were arrested for brazenly disobeying the law. Just kidding slave owners have never been punished okay, next question. How do you celebrate juneteenth . Great. Okay, now usually, juneteenth is celebrated during, like, a block party with fun music and good food where a little girl sings lift every voice and sing, while i shout at her, you had better get that song sung, baby. But this year, because of covid, we are all gonna celebrate by watching alicia keys and john legend battle it out on versus. Thats just a real answer for you. Google it. Okay, if im white, can i celebrate juneteenth . Yes. White people can celebrate juneteenth, but youve got to do it by going like this, oh, no, my slaves, my precious slaves oh, just kidding you celebrate it by being thankful that your black friends and family are free to be whatever they want to be then, you do your best to make that statement true. No costumes, please. Okay if juneteenth falls on a weekend, do we get that monday off, too . Okay now, i dont have the authority to make that decision, but im going to say yes, definitely okay, next question. Does the holiday juneteenth make up for all the no no were not going to finish that question the answer is no, no matter what the end of it was. Okay why am i only hearing about juneteenth now . Okay, ask your black friends just kidding i can tell by your question you dont have any but, you should make some. Were fun, and you might get invited to a block party just make sure not to celebrate it by wearing a costume. Okay is this going to become one of those holidays thats just an excuse to hold car sales . No please dont cheapen it like that although, i do need a new car. Because if you think im getting back on the subway any time soon, you have lost your dang mind so maybe okay so now that juneteenth is an official holiday, what else can we do to address systemic racism . Okay hire black people, defund the police, call out white supremacy, fight the power, be antiracist. And most importantly, stop asking black people how you can address systemic racism. I dont have time to answer all your questions i have to go buy a car seth amber ruffin, everyone. Well be right back with a closer look. Seth president trumps exNational Security adviser is trying to cash in with a tellall book after refusing to testify in trumps impeachment trial. For more on this, its time for a closer look. Seth we all know the president is a venal, corrupt, selfserving maniac. This much is plain to everyone hell, it was the original title of this show you dont have to peel back the layers with trump. Theres one layer. Its a thick epidermis of botoxinfused pancake skin wrapped around a dark, howling void where a soul should be. Yesterday, for example, he called in for yet another televised therapy session with sean hannity, where he once again repeated his insane lie that the coronavirus pandemic, which has now killed more americans than world war i, which is growing in about 20 states, and which is spiking at alarming levels in places like arizona and texas, will just magically disappear its fading away. Its going to fade away. Nobody knew that it was going to be that contagious nobody had any idea it was going to be this kind of contagious. Seth honestly, at this point, who is the audience for this i mean, obviously those two guys will tivo it and watch it back later that night while they talk on the phone, but who else mr. President , you crushed that answer. Well, you crushed that question. Not only is this a flagrant and reckless lie, its not even new. When you buy the new steely dan album, do you really want the track list to say, reelin in the years remastered 12 times and full disclosure, if they were remastered as 12 different versions of reelin in the years, i mean, i guess id buy it wait, are fox news viewers just steely dan fans but for trump . Trump has repeated a version of this same lie dozens of times. Hes like a Big Mouth Billy Bass of [ bleep ] its going to disappear one day, its like a miracle it will disappear. Seth look, i know trumps supporters will never budge from supporting him, but are they really sitting there watching the tv saying, hes right no one knew how contagious it was. My buddy told me you could only catch it by licking a toilet seat under a full moon. So we all know who trump is. Every tellall book written by former trump aide about their time in the administration is the exact same some of the details differ, but they all say the same thing, the most powerful man in the world is a mentally incontinent mantoddler with farina brain who only cares about himself the one exception is sean spicers book, which i think is called, the beefing . No, no, wait, it was called tales from a podium pud. You know what i think it was, stinky tailor, stupid guy. And yes, that was a tortured tinker, tailor, soldier, spy joke that almost worked. You know what, if you think that joke worked, why dont you text one to your grandmother. And if you think it didnt work, text two to your grandmother you know, either way, i think your grandmother will be happy to hear from you point is, if youre looking for sean spicers book, you can find it at barnes noble in the door stop section. Anyway, every tellall trump book confirms again and again how uniquely cretinous our president is and they are all equally, well, pointless. We dont need tellall books we have a tellall president what he does behind closed doors, he also does behind open doors and windows, into microphones and his executive orders it would only be interesting if behind closed doors he was eloquent and curious and not racist then there would be some all to tell and the same thing is true of exNational Security adviser john boltons new book, except boltons book also proves how loathsome and duplicitous its bolton has been a key figure in some of the biggest disasters of the last 20 years. Im pretty sure he was mr. Mustachelees in the movie cats. At least before they air brushed out the [ bleeph]. Ya burnt bolton hasnt expressed so much as a scintilla of regret for all the horrific stuff hes been involved in. In fact, he repeatedly went on tv for years and claimed that the iraq war, which killed hundreds of thousands of people, was actually a success, and said the only thing he would have done differently in hindsight was leave the iraqi on their own sooner i think the overthrow of saddam hussein, that military action was a resounding success. I think the mistakes that were made subsequently, setting up the Coalition Provisional authority and others that followed from it, are lessons about what to do after a regime is overthrown. What i would have done differently is, much earlier, much sooner after the overthrow, given it back to the iraqis. And ill exaggerate for effect here, but given them a copy of the federalist papers and said, good luck. Seth spoken like a true psycho youre like a guy who goes to a house party, gets drunk, vomits, passes out in his vomit, [ bleeps ] his pants, wakes up, then gives you an emily post book of etiquette and says, you might want to read this. So, bolton has never faced consequences for any of the calamities he helped bring about. And now, rather than answer the call when his country needed him, hes cashing in with a 2 million book deal and in that way, he is exactly like trump and all the other ghouls in the modern Republican Party. He burned everything down, stuffed his hands in the till, grabbed as much cash as he could, and left everyone else to clean up the mess. Honestly, trump should be proud. A man after my own, enlarged heart. And i think if we listen closely were going to have a beep coming up. [ gasp ] did you hear that . It will be a few more minutes. And sure enough, boltons tedious and condescending book does, in fact, confirm every bad thing you already thought about trump, including the impeachment case bolton could have helped with months ago. Bolton says trump did not want to send funds to ukraine until they sent him dirt on Hillary Clinton and joe biden, just as he was accused of doing and acquitted by the republicans in the senate. Bolton says trump told the chinese premier to go ahead and build concentration camps for the countrys muslim minority. He also says trump pleaded explicitly facetoface with xi, chinas premier, to, quote, ensure hed win the upcoming election seth so not only did the president of the United States extort multiple countries to help him cheat in the 2020 election and encourage a totalitarian regime to engage in ethnic cleansing against a persecuted religious minority, but bolton witnessed it all, but did nothing. I pray that one day these two get to share a cell together in the hague. It would make for a great buddy comedy these guys are a real turner and douche it would be like a modern day perfect strangers. And yes, in this situation trump would be the Balki Bartokomous character. In my country, we drink water with both hands. Dont be ridiculous. So lets see, weve got perfect strangers, in there tonight steely dan, turner and hooch, and tinker, tailor, soldier spy. So i think weve more than taken care of our teen viewers this evening. Also, i cant wait for all the fake china hawks in the gop like ted cruz and marco rubio to pretend they havent read trumps comments cruz is gonna grow a beard so thick reporters wont be able to find him and yes, boltons book is also full of the typically embarrassing details youd expect to hear about life in the trump white house. For example, you might remember that trump coined, coined the nickname little rocket man for kim jongun. But then after their summit in singapore, trump pretended the name was a compliment and tried to send kim a gift in the months following the summit, bolton described trumps inordinate interest in secretary of state mike pompeo delivering an autographed copy of elton johns rocket man on cd to kim during pompeos followup visit to north korea trump had used the term little rocket man to criticize the north korean leader, but subsequently tried to convince kim that it was a term of affection. Trump didnt seem to realize pompeo hadnt actually seen kim jongun during the trip, asking if pompeo had handed the cd, wrote Bolton Pompeo had not getting this cd to kim remained a high priority for several months okay, first of all, i love that it was a cd in the year 2018 knowing trump, his plan was to get kim jongun to pay a penny for that and 11 other cds and then have him on the hook for the rest of his life classic, columbia house. Second, its so weird to give someone an autographed copy of a cd that isnt yours. For christmas one year i gave my mom wolf hall, but i didnt sign it. So a con artist warmonger is cashing in by detailing horrific abuses of powers by a con artist president subverting our democracy, and all the while, the Republican Party is just standing by letting it happen. Were all watching right now as our institutions fail us in a time of acute Crisis Police are beating protesters with impunity, a deadly pandemic is ravaging the nation, and unemployment is higher than its been in a century. And many people who thought the government would be there to protect them are learning that its not its like being on an airplane and assuming the oxygen mask will be there in an emergency, and then you hit some turbulence and the only thing that comes down is a voucher that says, we know you have many choices when you fly. Thank you for choosing us, and, please, rest in peace. And in many ways, the various crises were experiencing right now are connected in at least one sense. The structural inequality and the institutional failures laid bare by the coronavirus pandemic helped set the stage, in part, for the unprecedented mass demonstrations against systemic racism and police brutality. I think we were primed for this moment by the coronavirus by a lot of the American Mythology being laid bare. One, the idea that we can, sort of, be relentlessly upwardly mobile and that white folks have, you know, sort of their grasp on the american dream. When the economy shut down and people realized they were two paychecks away from destitution and the government may not be there for them, there was a sense of vulnerability and a physical vulnerability and then as we saw, the coronavirus made people lean into their neighbors once you tap into that source of vulnerability, interdependence, humanity and an awareness of the inequality that the coronavirus has exposed, youre primed for something big. Seth shes right the pandemic made the failures of our institutions very real for tens of millions of people and in turn, it led to a deep sense of community solidarity. People had to look out for each other because they realized the government wouldnt, by checking on neighbors, supporting local businesses, and liking your friends instagram pics of their janky banana bread, even though theyve already posted like half a dozen banana bread pics, and they are just not getting any better youre overmixing the batter, steve, and your bananas arent ripe enough. It [ bleep ] breaks my heart to tell you that, steve your bananas arent ripe enough bro, and youre embarrassing yourself on social media people are discovering that their government just isnt there for them, thanks in part to years of concerted efforts by the moneyed class and the corporate elite to hollow it out. If every year you pump trillions into Corporate Tax cuts in the military and cut everything else, youre gonna end up with a country where millions of people dont have jobs or health care, billionaires are doing great and everyone else is met with tear gas and riot gear. I mean, think of what else we could be spending money on right now instead of tanks for local Police Departments and even if you really want to spend the money on tanks, the least you could do is give them to nurses and postal workers instead of the police. If instead of a tiny little mail car, every postal worker had a tank, theyd make damn sure you got that pottery barn catalog. In fact, one small thing we could keep spending money on are the additional Unemployment Benefits provided by the coronavirus stimulus package as you might recall, the bill added 600 to Unemployment Benefits, which republicans tried to get rid of at the time, a move that enraged Bernie Sanders and now i find that some of my republican colleagues are very distressed they are very upset that somebody who is making 10, 12 bucks an hour might end up with a paycheck for four months more than they received last week oh, my god the universe is collapsing imagine that somebody who is making 12 an hour, now like the rest of us, faces an unprecedented economic crisis with the 600 bucks on top of their normal, their regular unemployment check might be making a few more bucks more for four months. Oh, my word will the universe survive . Seth say what you will about bernie, but we really missed an opportunity for some grade a old man sarcasm in the debates with trump oh, the media is mean to you . How will the universe survive . You know what we used to do when someone was mean to us back in my day we didnt tweet. We road our bikes down to the sandlot and challenged them to a game of baseball. On sunday, trump economic adviser larry kudlow said the Trump Administration would cut off the additional 600 because it somehow disincentives people from going back to work. The federal Government Program for unemployed americans gives them an extra 600 a week in benefits but its slated to run out in six weeks. And now, obviously the Health Effects and economic effects are going to last longer than that should American Families that are receiving these extra 600 checks right now expect that money to stop in august well, Unemployment Benefits will not stop in august. What may well stop and this reform is necessary i mean, almost all businesses, frankly, on both sides of the aisle, or mostly both sides of the aisle, understand that the 600 plus up, thats above the state unemployed benefits that they will continue to receive is, in effect, a disincentive i mean, were paying people not to work. Its better than their salaries would get. Seth i dont know. I think that says less about Unemployment Benefits and more about how little we pay workers, you senile business egg. Also, i love that he thinks all these people are on a salary oh, so youre a driver for papa johns . What is that, 100k a year in Stock Options . I bet you get Stock Options, i presume. So you think were paying people not to go to work . Were paying them because our sociopathic government failed to protect them from a deadly disease, and our barbaric capitalist system has rendered them expendable. Not everyone can spend their day golfing and watching tv like the guy you work for if were paying anyone not to work, its him the only way trump could watch more tv is if golf courses started putting tiny screens in the bottom of the cup. The people at the top are stuffing their hands in the till, trying to cash out before everything burns down. And meanwhile, they wont even let you keep an extra 600 bucks a week during a pandemic they failed to stop ive got to be honest, sometimes it really does feel like the universe is collapsing. Seth this has been a closer look. Seth as new york struggles to reopen, remember that we are still a city in crisis, and city harvest has been stepping up to meet the increased need. Seth our first guest tonight is a very funny emmy winning writer and comedian. She executive produced the docuseries, visible out on television, which is streaming on apple tv plus heres my conversation with wanda sykes. Seth wanda, its so good to see you again. So good to see you too, seth. Seth were obviously living through some difficult times right now, but are you drawing any help from the protest movement that weve seen this last month i am. I am you know, they look a lot different now. You know they are very diverse. We have a lot of young people out there, which is great. And, it feels different. It really does and it keeps going, you know it gets bigger, its growing so, i am im hopeful. Seth when this first started, hopefully i heard this right, that your instinct was not to go to march, but you were sort of overcome by this movement and you and your wife and your kids went out yeah. Yeah, it was that night that i had some i had a few tequilas, and you know, and it was just one thing after the other. And you know, i just i just lost it. And i just had to talk to some people and went on instagram and went live. But and yeah, i meant what i said i was like, you know, im not im not doing it its not our problem we keep doing the same thing we keep marching and nothing changes. So, you know, were the victims of the problem its your problem. You have to fix your problem and when i, you know, saw the marches and how many people are out and the response and all from, you know, from the george floyd execution, it gave me hope, you know. Especially when i saw also religious leaders speaking out, too. That was like, okay, now folks are getting it, you know it felt like people were getting it seth how did your children like being at the march . Well, they loved the marching part but then once the stationary part happened and, you know, were listening to all the speakers, then they were bored silly. [ laughter ] they were they just wanted to go home. They were hot. And i think im pretty sure my daughter faked a heat stroke. Im pretty sure. [ laughter ] it was just like, ah ah ah im like, okay. Thats good. Thats a good one. Thats good so [ laughter ] seth and youre fantastic last special not normal, you talk about the fact your wife is white, your children are white how has it been in this moment talking to them . Because i would imagine children have a curiosity as to why people are so upset. Oh, man you know, its been difficult, because, you know, i have to tune it out. I have to turn it off sometimes, because theres always something that will just make me go nuts i just get so angry and hurt and actually, i talked to some of my black friends about it, especially my Sorority Sisters they, all their kids are older and everything now, so theyve been through it. So, im like, look, im having issues im trying to talk to my son about the george floyd case, and hes like, uhhuh. and i said, so, the police officer, he had his knee on his neck. My son is like, yeah, thats bad. He killed him. I said, yeah. And he goes, he should go to jail. I was like, yeah, lucas, you get it. And goes, um, so whats your favorite dinosaur . Im like, what . What . [ laughter ] you know, thats kids. Ive got it. Lets move on. Next topic, you know so [ laughter ] so, i have to just let them be kids, you know its like, you cant and thats what my friends were saying its like, look, let them enjoy their innocence and let them be kids youre raising good kids theyll get it so i dont want my kids to later in life, you know, someone ask them, so, what was your mom like and they were like, whoa, that was one angry bitch. Let me tell you. [ laughter ] ooo, she was mad. Seth well, my next question was going to be what your favorite dinosaur is, but now i feel like i should skip it [ laughter ] wait, if lucas ever finds out, tell him to text me. Okay, i will. Seth so, you grew up in virginia how is it obviously that is a state that has confederate statues. How do you feel when you see them come down oh, it feels good it really does i you know, i know its like saying, yay, vandalism. But, it it feels good i mean, im glad that people are making a stand and saying, this, it needs to come down. But, i would like for them to not, you know, destroy them. I think they should save them and put them in like a museum about racism, so we can see that, yeah, they actually had these statues up can you believe that they were they actually had slave owners and, you know, they made monuments, and made holidays to people who did awful things and just for us, a reminder for us, you know, not to do that again seth so you produced a show, visible out on television about basically about representation of the lgtbq community in media and this has actually been a good week for the lgtbq community. And there havent been many in recent history but, the Supreme Court said its now illegal under federal law to fire someone for being gay or trans. And do you you know what, it does, the special speaks to the idea that representation in the media is really important. In so far, it moves the dial on Public Perception of underrepresented groups. Mmmhmm, absolutely absolutely you know, and its funny, the blueprint is the same, you know. Its like, the same way, how africanamericans, people of color, were demonized in media. Its the same thing with the lgtbq, you know, group community. They paint it, you know, like homosexuals as, you know, either they are the butt of the jokes, or deviants, or the crazy lesbian stalker. But those images, it you know, they resonate. And this is because so many of us we watch tv and those images, they stick with you so, it really can paint your opinion of a group of people so, its important that we show how tv it used to move the Movement Forward and for us to be able to tell our own stories. And once we did, it really did start changing hearts and minds, and which, also changed laws politically, so. Seth well, hopefully a lot of hearts and minds are being changed, not just on that issue, but others i do think, you know, its a scary time, but you are one of those people that gives me cause for optimism thanks much for being with us, wanda. It is a scary time. And let me ask you, november 2016, did you really think it was going to be this bad . Seth i didnt. No one. You didnt seth yeah. You didnt tell them it would be this bad, did you, seth seth no. I would not have picked either of these things. Yeah. Seth and they are both happening, yeah. Yeah. I knew it was going to be some tomfoolery and, you know, shenanigans. Seth oh, my god. Were so passed like, shenanigans are so far give us some hijinks give us some hijinks i was like, were going to have some hijinks. Seth oh, what i wouldnt give for some hijinks right now. I thought we was going to have some hijinks. But i never thought it was going to be seth no. World ending seth no. Well, heres you know, i hopefully, cause i think we can get we can at least maybe get some tomfoolery out of president joe biden. That would just be good. Oh. Seth that would be a nice problem to have. Hes going to be full of tomfoolery seth some malaprops. Some malapropism oh yeah. Seth that would be great yes [ laughter ] seth thanks for being with us, wanda. Thanks, seth. You this quarter. Cool . Drop the taco. Get in the car. Does this sentra feel like a compromise to you . Wait, what. . The handling is good, right . No compromise there. Nope watch this. Umm. Bbrie. Brie brie rear automatic braking. So if this Nissan Sentra isnt gonna compromise, why should you . Because when each part does everything better than ever. Imagine what you can do with the sum of those parts. The new dell xps 10th gen intel bong seth our next guest is a writer, director, and producer you know from his work on trainwreck, knocked up, and the 40yearold virgin, as well as girls and freaks and geeks. His new film, the king of Staten Island, is available on demand now heres my conversation with our friend, judd apatow. Seth judd, its great to see you. How are you doing . Im doing well. Ive been home for over three months and this is the result seth its lovely its beautiful i mean, youre in bloom. Youre in full bloom [ laughter ] do you know that i did my own makeup today seth no. Get out of here. This is you know what, i always have these makeup people. I can do it myself, which is basically irish spring i use irish spring seth yeah. And then this is it i dont even have beard oil in seth how do the women the three women that you live with feel about your look right now they feel the same way you feel, that it looks great. Seth yeah. But glad that we found this seth a lot of support. A lot of support [ laughter ] no, they are so annoyed because they think its too big and theyre mad i wont trim it, but im going kind of for a Benjamin Harrison look seth yes and theyre mad at me because i keep saying, well then im going to shave it all off. And theyre like, no, we dont want to see your face you know, they want a little beard, but they hate my face and i try to remind them, its your face. Seth right, right. Like my face looks kind of like your face [ laughter ] you cant hate it that much. Seth no, of course not thats very fair althought, its not really their fault, but its a Fair Assessment [ laughter ] so, the movies great. And i want to talk, because i feel like you always do such an incredible job with casting, especially casting that people wouldnt expect. I mean obviously marisa tomei is so great in this movie steve buscemi. You know, pete is so much fun to watch. Bill burr is fantastic yeah. Seth but maybe Action Bronson steals the movie. [ laughter ] the people arent really talking yet enough about that Action Bronson has a key role in the movie. You know, we needed a strange neighborhood figure. I dont want to give away what happens in the sequence. And Action Bronson was the only one who is hysterically funny. And also machine Machine Gun Kelly is in the movie as well as a mean tattoo shop owner so, you know, i love having cameos like, rza is in funny people. Seth yeah. And Ghostface Killah is in walk hard. And method man is in trainwreck. So im just working through the whole wutang clan seth yes its my tribute to Staten Island over a career [ laughter ] seth thats very thats very nice of you to do we had pete on and he talked about, you know, writing a first draft of this movie. I imagine, like, for somebody like him who is playing the lead in a film that is also, you know to some degree pulled from his own life, did he have anxiety in the early days of shooting you know, he got very nervous right before we started shooting so, you know, we were having fun writing for a couple of years. And then the night before shooting started, i just started getting these emails from him and he was sending me the imdb resumes of actors he thought should be better than him. And he was like, can i not go to work tomorrow what about emilr hirsch . You know, what about cole sprouse . And all these resumes keep pop up and im at home laughing thinking, oh, hes hysterical. This pete, hes hysterical and then the next day at work hes like, im serious. You should have called cole sprouse. [ laughter ] i really i really dont want to be here today, judd but then after the first day he got really comfortable and had a blast making it. But he certainly was a little nervous heading into it. Seth a directors fear, one of their many fears on set is something will change with an actor and there will be continuity issues. Yes seth what was your biggest continuity fear about pete the biggest fear i had was he loves getting tattoos. [ laughter ] seth yeah. Thats just like the after like, oh, look how good it looks. I think its the process of getting it he talked a lot about enjoying the fact that it hurt and that it focused him and helped him think clearly. And we talked a lot about trying to understand that and so, he kept asking if he could get a tattoo in a weird place that wouldnt be in a movie. And im like, i dont know when i need you naked i might need you naked one day you cant have a new tattoo. And then i was worried he would go, like full post malone at some point seth right, sure because that would happen when we were doing girls, in between seasons, they would get tattoos and they wouldnt ask anybody. They would just show up and go, do you love these tattoos i got all over my hands . And im like, i guess your character just got tattoos on her hands. Seth man, yeah [ laughter ] you do dont take this the wrong way. You look like you have just a random stack of things in your room right now is this are we entering a hoarding stage of judd apatows life right now i dont call it hoarding. I call i call it having magnificent things seth oh, gotcha. Sure, things you cant throw away i call it having a history that you want to preserve. But, what i loved about being stuck in the house and not being able to leave for three months, and theres so many great things about being stuck in your house and not being able to leave, is i could go through it all and find some great stuff. Like i found, this is my first head shot. Seth wow my first head shot. Yeah seth yeah. I wanted to do commercials when i was a kid like for mcdonalds or burger king, or something. And then i got chickenpox like two weeks after this, and i did not look pretty and so i gave up the career do you know that i was in batman . Seth no. Like, i had a little part in batman. Yeah yeah, theres thats thats from that thats from when i was in batman. Seth so you were one of the bat kids one of the the bat kids scene that was cut, i think . It was all cut out. [ laughter ] it was 1,000 little bat kids helped solve the crime but, do you know that my grandma was friends with totie fields, the great comedienne, you see that seth wow, look at that thats if i didnt have a hoard seth so you cant throw that away is that what youre saying, you cant throw that away . Well, why would you throw it away why would you throw away great stuff . Seth no. You know what i found the other day, the censor notes on freaks and geeks. Seth oh, wow why do you have one . The notes from the censor seth why is one of them highlighted . Well, it says, please take another pass at revising bills touching story about the time when he tried to sneak out a fart but it came out a poop and i had to flush my undies down the toilet. Thats from freaks and geeks. Seth yeah. And do you think if you had taken that pass, they would have given you a Second Season . Do you think if you had tried a little harder . [ laughter ] if i didnt tell them all to f off. [ laughter ] how dare you question these amazing ideas of bill farting and pooping by accident. Do you know i met howie mandel when i was a kid seth thats a pretty good look at that howie, a full head of hair. Let me ask you a question, do you think ive aged well seth i think youve aged but like is that how you think it would have turned out [ laughter ] seth i dont know. I dont know if i would have fully i think i would have thought you could eventually get to where you are now, but maybe it would have taken a little bit longer because you know that im only 28. [ laughter ] do you think all my Health Regimen paid off seth i think we should do you want to show us one more before we go, or is that was that the coup de grace wel im trying to think what you would enjoy the most. Seth i mean, theyre all been so good oh, this is my Christmas Card, one year youve got to save all the Christmas Cards. Thats one years Christmas Card seth great well, look thats paul rudd at the bottom, me at the top. Seth one day one day were going to have to its worth saving, right . Seth yeah, yeah. One day well have to do an episode where its just the things in judds zoom room [ laughter ] you know what, id enjoy id enjoy it a lot, if you would. I would. Seth thats great. Thats the cover of capturing the friedmans, right, the cover of that dvd . [ laughter ] thats long island. Thats long island seth thats long island. Thats all ive got to say. Thats where im from.
