People started getting out of those vehicles as part of what looked like an organized protest and then they succeeded to start writing, were not sure paint or what they are using that they can write black lives matter on the top of the bay bridge. Weve been watching as a couple of Different Police agencies have been coming from the San Francisco side, from the other side. They are trying to figure how to alleviate the situation. I can tell you talking to a few people on the bridge, its kind of confusing because they dont know whats going on. A lot of people getting out of their cars and taking selfies on the bridge. We saw a guy next to us take a couple of drinks out of a cooler, sitting on a car. Ive been on the bridge since 5 00. Weve just passed the exit. Its been stop and go. But literally going is 5 miles an hour and we park again and the cars shut off. About 15 minutes ago we saw two dozen chp vehicles pass us trying to get everybody to the right side of the bridge to get in and go to wherever they are going to. I dont see any police, in terms of riot police or protesters. So nobody really knows whats going on here except were stuck. It sounds like people could be very upset getting stuck in traffic especially on sunday, going to dinner, coming back from a weekend at tahoe, i dont know. Sounds like people are taking it very cool from what you can see. Actually its really funny you said that, because weve seen a couple of people walk past our car. The guy said this must be the most jovial ivecursing, honkin their horns. Everyone is sitting and patient. And that is something ive never seen. Ive barely moved. Nobody has yelled or honk their horns or anything in terms of sitting in traffic. Were looking at video right now of someone who took pictures just starting to happen inside the tunnel. That person almost made it to where the car caravan came to a stop but did not. A lot of people honking their horns inside a tunnel but people like to honk their horns in tunnels because they like the way it sounds intensified inside there. Were looking at pictures on the people on the other side of the tunnel. I dont see anybody storming. I dont see anybody going up to confront. We do know chp is on the scene there on the other side of the bridge there. There we have protesters having the bridge blocked. Again, the west bound side of the bay bridge on the west side of the yorba buena tunnel. Were you going out to dinner . No, we were coming back to the city, oakland to the city, so were stuck on the old span. The bridge is really pretty. Theres a great view. Its a nice day, i guess, i suppose. If youre going to be stuck on the bridge, i guess its a nice day and you can see stuff. You and everybody on the bridge, you deserve some kind of patience award, it could be enough to get some people upset. Youre enjoying the view. Chp officers attacked in the east bay. Comes in the wake of several highprofile attacks on Law Enforcement. Nbc Marianne Favro live in heyward with developments on that story. Several arrests, marianne. Weve just learned chp arrested the man they believe is the shooter. Hes an 18yearold from l. A. And now he is accused of assault with a deadly weapon. Shortly after 2 00 this morning chp officers believed he fired seven shots at a marked chp patrol car near southbound 880 offramp. Fortunately the two officers inside were not hit. Chp officers believe the gunman was driving a black mercedes van and hes the one fired the shots. The officers were able to locate that black mercedes van that matched the description of the suspect vehicle and they were able to detain the three male occupants inside that vehicle. Those occupants ranged in age from 20, 18 and 14 years of age. Multiple firearms were located within that van. Officers arrested 18yearold ethan esco vedo for assault on a peace officer. Officers have been detained and could face charges. The chp is asking anyone with information about this shooting to contact them. Reporting live in hayworth, Marianne Favro, nbc bay area news. In danville today there was also a car caravan also in support of black lives matter but it was extremely different. Here it is. This is organized by a pair of selfdescribed suburban moms calling on other mothers to demand justice for victims of police violence. You saw the posters on there, banners, driving through the street, bubbles. Inspired by a similar event, saw it, liked it, and they feel compelled to do something after watching the news, especially coverage of George Floyds death. Its long pastime for a change, if we can be a part of that and support our fellow human beings, well do whatever we can. We want to show our solidarity. This event held in collaboration with a group called wake up danville. Calls for reform have been heard in the streets across the bay area and the united states. Among other things they are for officers who 3d more training, a commitment to root out racist officers. This comes amid backdrop of protests and calls to defund police.
