In march she was shot and killed by police in louisville, kentucky her death became a rallying cry for justice nationwide as department accountable. Her family pushed to hold the department accountable and this morning it is leading to change. Sheinelle jones has the latest including her interview with breonnas mother and her sister. Good morning to you overnight Louisville City Council taking action banning the Controversial Police action of noknock warrants in the city breonnas family telling us as an emt she worked to save lives while she was alive. And now breonnas law will save lives forever. Reporter this morning, a victory in Breonna Taylors name i knew she was destined for greatness. Reporter Louisville City Council passing breonnas law. Banning the use of socalled noknock warrants, a practice that gives Police Authority to enter a home without announcing themselves say her name reporter taylors name now a rallying cry at protests across the country. The outrage over George Floyds death leading to renewed interest in her case in midmarch, taylor and her boyfriend Kenneth Walker were asleep in her apartment. The officers forced entry into the exterior door and were met by gunfire reporter lawyers for taylors family says the couple was startled when the three officers in plain clothes banged on their door and entered the home walker thought it was a Home Invasion and opened fire with his licensed handgun shooting one of the men he thought was an intruder. The three officers returned fire, striking taylor eight times. Killing her. Walker was charged, bu all of the charges against walker were later dropped. Walkers emotional 911 call shows his confusion. Somebody kicked in the door and shot my girlfriend reporter taylors mother timyka palmer said she got a call from walker shortly after he caught me and said that somebody kicked in the door and breonna was shot and he was yelling for her i was like, where is she he said he couldnt see. Reporter we spoke with palmer and her daughter and their attorney. Breonna was not involved in any drug activity, so they had no reason to be at her apartment that night reporter taylor was an emt and emergency room technician. The officers in her death have been moved assignment. The other neighbors that live there stated that nobody heard them announce themselves they did not announce themselves kenny called the police. If you tell me im the police, im not going to call the Police Reporter a recently released report from that night is mostly blank. It claims there was no forced public pressure is now entry. It does list taylor as a victim of a crime and under injuries, it says none public pressure is now mounting with protests and celebrities speaking out Breonna Taylors life mattered do you know what happened to Breonna Taylor reporter celebrities, activists, folks from all over the world who you will never meet are now saying your daughters name with her picture marching down streets all over the world. What does that feel like. Now that Everybody Knows her name, it brings comfort because were not fighting this alone. Everybodys fighting for her reporter the new breonnas law, a powerful legacy of a beloved daughter and sister but one that will never be able to replace her. When does it hit home for you guys, the gravity of what happened it just never stops, but its those moments when its quiet. It becomes extremely loud in my head i just never imagined life without her. Taylors family says theyd like to see the officers involved arrested and criminally charged. The family has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city. We reached out to the officers involved and have not heard back. So the day of the scene, when things were over and the emt officers were leaving the house, one of the emts picked up a jacket and timyka said, put that jacket down. They were confused and they looked in the pocket and there was lipstick it was breonnas jacket. And in that moment, they recognized that they lost one of their own. Wow that was such an important conversation you just had, sheinelle. Its important to repeat that those officers are on administrative reassignment at this point this morning. All right. Thank you.
