Senator rand paul introduced the Breonna Taylor bill which would ban noknock warrants and House Minority leader Kevin Mccarthy now says he supports banning chokeholds. The idea someone would have a chokehold when someone is handcuffed, there should be severe consequences. Reporter a senate panel led by republicans approved renaming military base that is honor confederate generals. These names have to go. These names are White Supremacists that said terrible things about our country. Reporter President Trump has threatened to veto all Pentagon Spending including raises for troops and Coronavirus Research if the names are changed. He seems to be the only person left who doesnt get it. Reporter amid cries to defund police, President Trump is calling for more money and says hes working on an executive order. It will encourage Police Departments nationwide to meet the most current professional standards for the use of force including tactics for deescalation. And in the wake of protests San Francisco mayor london breed is crafting changes for the Police Department that will alter the roles played by officers. Breed wants police to stop responding to noncriminal calls. That means that officers would no longer be involved in issues like neighbor disputes, reports of Homeless People or School Discipline issues. Instead, train unarmed professionals would respond to those calls to limit unnecessary police confrontation. Were seeing the model in a handful of other cities. Three Law Enforcement officers suffered survivable injuries while zeroing in on the gunman in a riverbed. The San Luis Obispo sheriff is glad this is over. This is not a win, this is an end to something we wished never happened. The deputy ambush wednesday morning remains in serious condition. The begunman recently spent time in santa cruz, but they are not connecting him to the ambush attacks in ben lomond and oakland. Steven carrillo faces charges of murder in the death of gutzwiller. That money will be used to Fund Programs for africanamerican students like counseling, justice and social emotional learning. Its not just about the ability of an officer on campus but about the services we need to give to the kids. Removing police and redirecting 2. 5 million. Addressing police use of force and special crowd control measures. Sjpd has come under fire for how some handled protesters. The mayor says he now supports banning the use of rubber bullets on crowds. That meeting is virtual. It will start at 11 00 this morning. Across Southern California today, a whole new world as a lot of businesses and entities start to reopen including in l. A. County reopening of gyms, museums, and recreation areas. Film and production of Television Shows can also resume. In neighboring Riverside County theyre taking a step further starting today bars can reopen along with restaurants and gyms. Still some bar owners dont plan to reopen until next week at the earliest. Were going to take it slowly and carefully. The l. A. Times reports it may be weeks before some directors say action, due in part to increased sanitation costs, longer shoots and higher budgeting demand. A new Health Officer in Orange County is lifting the Face Covering requirement after public backlash. Previously a Health Officer made wearing it in public a requirement throughout the county. And then three days ago the officer resigned after receiving threats from the public as more businesses reopened. The county now strongly recommends a Face Covering to slow the spread of the virus. Now to decision 2020, California State Senate throwing its weight behind governor newsoms vote by mail plan this fall during the election. Now senators have approved the measure guaranteeing each will receive a ballot in the mail. Ballots post marked in time will count provided its received within 20 days of the election instead of three days after. That measure moves to the state assembly.
