And it continues to heat up as we reach into the upper 90s here. Its going to be a big change n the esterday, and it gets even microclimate forecast coming up in a few minutes. And mike gives us a look at the Early Morning commute. Kari, well go past your 90 geographically speaking. The big view shows what you would expect lighter traffic except for right at the altamont and grant line road things loosen up once again but the build is on there. Not a build for the north bay but coming down to martinez across the carquinez bridge west 80 at American Canyon there are reports of boxes in the roadway right now. Your left two lanes may be a factor. So far no slowing and no traffic break. The roadways are light in construction. Back to you. All right, thanks, mike. Breaking overnight in vallejo, authorities shot at someone. This is after reports of looting at walgreens and today in the bays bob redell is live there at the scene. South into coco county. The suspects overturned a couple miles west of the coming skyway. Both men are in custody. They broke into a store here that sells ball caps and other sporting apparel. This happened right in front of a Security Guard who was patrolling the strip mall where the store is located. They didnt care that we were here. Stuff started happening and they went about their business. They didnt feel threatened at all. Jay chased them off, got real close to them. Superhero. Reporter hes your buddy. Law enforcement arrested three other people here in vallejo. They smashed the front door of the grocery store. It appears they were trying to make off with a case of bud light when they were caught. Vallejo does have a curfew or did, i should say, in effect from 8 00 last night until 5 00 this morning. Weve only seen a couple instances of looting. Vallejo police tell us they have reports of dozens of riotrelated criminal activity. Reporting live, bob redell, today in the bay. Certainly an eventful night. Thank you. Overnight curfews just wrapping up for some of the dozen or so bay area cities that have them in place. Most run from 8 00 p. M. To 5 00 a. M. And all extended at least through the end of this week. Last night police in oakland and San Francisco made good on promises to crack down on anyone violating that order. Sfpd arrested protesters outside of the city hall last night. No word on the exact number this morning. Meanwhile Oakland Police arrested 100 people, 80, for curfew and similar violations. Overnight thousands of demonstrators gathered for a peaceful protest in Downtown Portland and, meanwhile, most protests were peaceful mostly in new york city but there were still some reports of looting. Vandals smashed the windows of some stores there and businesses were cleaned out as well because of that looting. Protesters in providence, rhode island, also set fires. President trump is now threatening to call in the military. Of course that brings a lot of pushback. Chris pollone joins us live with that part of the story. Reporter kris, and thats not all that has democrats and some members of the clergy criticizing the president s actions this morning. They Say Federal Police and National Guard troops used tear gas and rubber bullets on Peaceful Protesters just so the president could hold a photoop across from the white house. Federal officers and National Guard troops suddenly moved on Peaceful Protesters hitting them with flash grenades and tear gas while shooting rubber bullets. Then moments later another extraordinary scene. The president , cabinet members and Episcopal Church that had been vandalized the night before. Early this morning a twitter account posted a campaignstyle video of the visit showing mr. Trump holding a bible in front of st. Johns church. The two Top Democrats in Congress Called the president s actions cowardly, weak, and dangerous. The president just used a bible and sacred text and one of the churches of my diocese without permission as a backdrop for a message. Reporter it happened moments after mr. Trump delivered his first formal statement following the death of george floyd a week ago. I am your president of law and order and an ally of all Peaceful Protesters. A resident said there needs to be change through community leaders. Supervisor walton says Holding Officers Accountable when they break the rules will lead to change and is offering a resolution today urging the board to support legislation preventing sfpd from hiring officers from other departments with a record of excessive force. Actor jamie foxx was here yesterday and echoed the same concerns. Fight for incarcerations and prosecution when our people are killed by Law Enforcement. There has to be a deterrent. If that man can be handcuffed and that man can sit on that mans neck for that long and feel comfortable it, that means hes not afraid of whats going to happen. We have to change the language. Reporter foxx also had a message for his hollywood friends. He said its not enough to tweet or text. Youve got to get out here. A Board Committee yesterday also voted 21 against mayor london breeds two appointments saying given the recent developments showing outrage within the community they need to appoint more people who are from the community and know how to make systemic change. Twitter has masked the tweet of another politician, matt getz of florida. Could the American Government hunt them down like we do terrorists overseas . That was too much for twitter which put the gray mask over the tweet. You recall twitter put masks over the president s tweets about when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Some are pointing out twitter seems to be inconsistent with policies allowing others to call for violence as not masking those. Few people seem to notice but President Trump actually cross posts his tweets over to facebook and facebook let the shooting and looting post stand, that led a number of facebook employees and execs to hold a walkout, a virtual walkout because theyre working from home because of the pandemic. If youre going to work from home you dont need a new outfit every day. You can wear the same yoga pants. Sweatpants, yeah. Talking about moving away and working from home. I dont need a stylist for that. Essential workers are exempt from many of the curfew orders that we have in place in many of our communities around the bay area. And i remember at 12 00 my aunt showed me a video, a series called i forget the name of it right now, just slipped my mind right now, but eyes on the prize. At 12 did it click for you, or did it take a while . I understood because my grandfather you probably already felt it, though . I felt it in a sense, but, i mean, im still a child at that time. Then you hear the stories of what may happen. When i got my license, conversations had in my home about what to happen if youre pulled over. Those are realities that i still hold today at 40. And i have a lot of friends who are having those conversations with their kids. Were going to have that conversation here on today in the bay later this week. Stick around for that. It is a hard conversation for parents to have. Thank you. But we will have that conversation. Especially when you have children who maybe are fortunate they havent experienced it firsthand, so, why would anybody treat anybody different and dont realize it. Kris, thats the question a lot of people ask, why . My friend has a nephew in college and he said, uncle tim, why dont they like us . Thats a hard reality. It doesnt make any sense. Im glad were having the conversation. As a mother of an 8yearold, yeah, were starting to think about those things and, you know, you have to plan early. Its something thats been longstanding in our community and its really hard to even now have to have those conversations and, unfortunately, we have it in our minds that things arent just going to change. We have to prepare for it. They have to. They have to change. Right. Switching gears. Lets move on to weather. Lets talk about this heat and were going to have some temperatures today that reach near record highs for this afternoon. Our temperatures ramping up and inland will reach up to 90 degrees today. For san rafael the record is 108 degrees. As we look at other numbers that will not set a record today but tomorrow may have a chance. In concord a record was set a couple years ago in 2018. I think well reach the 98 degree high. As we look at our inland areas up to 98 there as well as 96 in livermore. 96 today in napa. Temperatures are going to spike tomorrow. It doesnt last that long. Showers along with cooler air and that rain stays just to our north. Well have to watch and see if the rain makes it to the north bay. Temperatures are all over the place. Perhaps its time to partner with someone who knows you and your business well enough to understand what your wealth is really for. Weve seen a lot of images of the protests, most of them largely peaceful. Huge groups of people. Of course in some cases those peaceful protests have given way to vandalism and looting. In San Francisco new measures to stop that from happening. The city now called in hundreds of National Guard members to protect local businesses which has not happened since the rodney king riots back in 1992. Mayor Eric Garcetti and the police chief both say its to allow Police Officers to focus on keeping the streets safe. L. A. s chief also landed in hot water when he tried to lay some of the blame for George Floyds death on the looters. A short time later he clarified his comments and said suggesting that the action of looters do not serve the enormity of floyds death. Weve been seeing a lot of touching moments on camera between people showing support during the nationwide protest. In an l. A. In that case the suspect died. Curfews across more than a dozen bay area cities just wrapping up for the most part throughout the bay area. And i can tell you that most of them expired within this hour. All bay area major cities have one in place right now and many of those curfews are already extended through at least the rest of the week. Authorities in Alameda County arrested more than 100 people last night after the curfew took effect. About 80 of those arrests happened in oakland where nobody is supposed to be assembling past 8 00 at night. Most of the people arrested were gathered downtown near broadway and 14th. Oakland police say some did try to assault officers when they were told it was past curfew. After 8 00 p. M. Officers were having rocks and bottles thrown at them. Assaults against officers. We announced multiple times an unlawful assembly. The number of arrests represents just a small fraction of the number of people protesting yesterday in oakland, and you can see from the pictures the crowd is estimated to have been about 15,000 people. In the south bay damage from looters still adding up right now and still a lot of cleanup to go. Today in the bays thom jensen is live in san jose. City council here in san jose will decide whether to keep the 8 30 p. M. To 5 00 a. M. Curfew in place for at least a full seven days.
