At one point, they were doubleparked, loading up with stolen goods. Letsroz plater in walnut creek. Theres a heavy Police Presence here in downtown walnut creek. All were needed this afternoon, when all heck broke loose. From sky ranger, you can see the aftermath, windows smashed and broken glass everywhere. Stores ransacked in walnut creek. Widespread looting with looters dodging in and out of traffic. Police say a young woman was shot in the arm, possibly by a vandal. In this bizarre scene, a fight breaks out over clothing. All had Walnut Police descend on the downtown. Shutting down businesses to close. Once people started to break in and the alarms started going off, and people were swarming the areas. They brought in k9 units. These joined the protest but once the looting started, some broke off and joined in. Thats not what we should be doing, because its giving a bad rep to the black lives matter movement. We want to spread awareness of whats going on in this country and whats going wrong. And thats the main goal, to change things that are broken at the moment. Reporter for now, this part of the downtown is offlimits, locked down. Heavy Police Presence. Officers and their vehicles in the street, blocking the entrances. Theres no reports of looting at valley fair. Santana row is just down the street. Its an outdoor mall. Police got word that may fair or santana row were going to get hit by looters. No reports of that going on. San francisco, under a curfew. Reporter the curfew in San Francisco at 8 00, came and went. There were a lot of sheriffs deputies at San Francisco city hall that asked the crowd there to disperse. It was a large crowd. It took them a while to move. They were marching for quite a while. The whole idea of the curfew is to keep people from looting. At city hall, there were a few people taken into custody but no details on the number of arrests or charges. Despite the curfew, the protests continued. The day of demonstrations, included one group out of the mayors home this afternoon. She invoked dr. Martin luther king to those assembled. But she had harsh words for this group that was outside of her home, lighting up fireworks. All white people yelling at the time but the effect was disturbing. Taunting me coming outside, with firework torches in their hand, what used to happen when the kkk would show up to black peoples houses, to burn their houses down. Dont come for me. Im not the one. Reporter she called the groups who continued to rampage through the city, outside agitators. Speaking with a group of Latino Community leaders, she urged people to stop vandalizing businesses that are already hurting because of the covid19 lockdown. Roberto hernandez says he understands the protests. This anger has been building up. Reporter but he says the Community Leaders are prepared to defend the local Business Owners from vandals. Some new information, we just got word from the San Francisco police department, they have detained at least 80 people so far, for violating the curfew and for looting. The new curfew went into effect at 8 30 tonight. It will lift tomorrow morning at 5 00 a. M. A Huge Police Response in downtown san jose tonight. Even though people are warned they have to clear out by the 8 30 curfew, more than 100 protesters remained. The San Jose Police chief said vandals and looters have cost millions in damages. And a curfew is needed 48 hours. We believe a curfew can be a useful tool to mitigate violence and damage. Reporter Police Received conversation of planned looting throughout san jose and hope the curfew will stop those efforts. More than 400 protesters gathered at city hall today, many carrying signs that said black lives matter.
