This fire has been burning for near minutes of the first 911 calls and learned very quickly that the fire had escalated. They had to escalate their response to a four alarm response. We spoke with the lieutenant of the San Francisco Fire Department just minutes ago. He told us that the fire is not contained. It is still active, but it is contained to that warehouse at the very end of pier 45. And pier 45 is where we find todays in the bay sergio cantana. Sergio, good morning. Reporter good morning to you. I can tell you that this is a continuing fire fight. You can see as i move out of the shot here, you can see they still have several of those ladders set up. They are still pouring lots of water on this fire, and they expect to be out here for a good part of the day. We just had another briefing from lieutenant Jonathan Baxter from the Fire Department. He tells us that the initial attack of this fire was very intense. They actually thought that the fire was going to jump from pier 45 to one of the next door buildings. The fire, in fact, was so intense that as they were trying to mobilize one of their trucks, one of those trucks did in fact get a little damaged by the fire. No injuries so far. Intensity o the fire itself, portions of this buildi of pier 45 did collapse, and that actually triggered a bit of a may day call from the firefighters who were around and trying to get into the building at the moment. Some very difficult moments on the onset. Thats one of the reasons why they called in lots of resources to back up those initial crews. Right now they do believe that the fire is pretty much restricted to this building here. Pier 45, they do have it restricted to this building. This entire area is literally over the water and so they are trying to make sure that its going to not spread any further into pier 45, which has a number of buildings, museums inside. So far they believe that they do have it pretty well restricted to this building and to that portion of the building that is closest to the water. We did speak with the San Francisco Fire Department Public Information officer lieutenant Jonathan Baxter just a few minutes ago and he explains that while the fire is not contained, it is perhaps isolated to that one warehouse at the very end of pier 45. As sergio detailed, it is a historic pier. We are entering memorial day weekend when we look back and thank those men and women fighting for our lives. When we look back at the world war ii era ship that fought in d day, and it has been saved thanks to the tremendous effort of the San Francisco Fire Department. We have 150 firefighters on the scene right now. They worked so quickly to contain this fire that they were able to contain it. We were able to speak with the fire chief earlier this morning. It is too dangerous for our members to be in there because we have had a lot of collapse on all the exterior walls and now on the interior you can see as well. You can get a lot of smoke in there before anybody can see anything. Nobody is living here, so it had a pretty good start on us when we got here about 4 20, and it quickly went to a four alarm. We got our fire boat operating. Our fire boat is operating on the other side. We protected the Jeremiah Obrian from being impacted. But this warehouse back here is going to be a total loss.
