Right now and hopefully opened back up, at least somewhat, i can bring them back on an a parttime basis. Last week, mayor london breed announced some retailers like book stores could offer store front pickup starting may 15th. What this means for our cities is incredible. Today she expanded the Curbside Pickup and delivery option. It does include all retail in San Francisco. And were talking about close to 95 of businesses that have unfortunately been closed. It includes manufacturing, and warehouses, there will be limitations, masks and social distancing rules. The San Francisco council of District Merchants Association has been watching. It is a step in the right direction. It could never be fast enough. But im at least happy that it is better than what was proposed before. This city plans to give retailers guidance on what is expected. Christie smith, nbc bay area news. Thank you. It a bit confusing but around the bay area it is a mixed bag as far as which counties are following state guidance, which have decided not to, and last week, solano, sonoma and napa counties started reopening businesses. Yesterday Santa Clara County said it would not reopen Retail Stores adding conditions are still too dangerous to ease up on restrictions. Almeda county hinted that more restrictions could be lifted in the coming days, that comes after the county and elon musk feuded over reopening the tesla plant in fremont. While Santa Clara County is not yet saying when restaurants could fully reopen the city of san jose is taking steps to make sure diners can be social distancing when they do. A socalled al fresco plan was approved by the city commission, with more outdoor dining. San jose could close off some lanes of traffic to accommodate outdoor seating plans. We know this wont be a solution for everyone. Were going to need to find solutions wherever people are. And to be creative. The city council will vote on the plan within two weeks. San mateo also considering a similar proposal. A handful of california counties will be allowed to more fully reopen, the 15 counties, mostly rural, have met the states conditions. Under the earlier phase two closin closing, clothing stores, Retail Stores, book stores. It is one of the many questions about a post covid19 world. What will School Look Like . California superintendent says he is envisioning different scenarios, for how kids can get back into the classroom, including staggered morning and afternoon shifts to cut class sizes but will districts whose buses are already deep in the red, be able to even afford that kind of change. And what happens to the staff . Nbc bay area melissa colorado looks at the challenges in oakland. Distancing, disinfecting and a lot of hand washing, that is a sneak peek of what fall 2020 will likely look like. For bay area kids. State superintendent Tony Thurmond says students and teachers may have to wear masks and might have to switch to staggered learning, in order to give students more space. In that scenario, one group of students show up in the morning, another Group Reports to school in the afternoon. We do know that there might be some scenarios where we might need to do more of that and move to a different class, that might mean more personnel. But can districts afford to hire extra staff . The numbers say no. Thanks to the pandemic, california is face can a staggering budget short fall. Public schools and Community Colleges might lose more than 18 billion in state funding. As it relates to the cost, we know that this is going to be daunting for us, but we cant mide from the challenges. The Oakland Unified School district faces another challenge. School closures. The district is moving ahead with closing kaiser elementary, and merging it with the academy in the fall. Sarus two daughters go to the school. Does it make any sense to give up the facility at the same time when the governor and Public Health officials are saying we need more space. Part of the coalition of parents and Public Health districts want the governor to stop from closing and merging schools during the pandemic. Im terrified because density causes more inspection. And then there is this. A new message from Governor Newsom today. Get ready for wildfire season. This is from a fire station in el dorado county. Rain levels and snow pack levels have been significantly lower this year, and in fact, from january to may, the state has seen an increase of 60 more fires. To get ready, the governor announced a new wildfire safety division. It will oversee pg e funding, for cal fire, and money for fire engines. We are mindful of the threat, we are mindsful of the understandable anxiety that this time of the year presents to people and what is going on with covid19 and were not stepping back our efforts. Were in fact stepping them up. Tomorrow, the governor will unveil the bistate budget. Its expected to contain even more safety measures. Well, as restrictions begin to ease, people across the u. S. Are moving around more. Take a look at this map from the New York Times today. It tracks the movement of those with cell phone data and the dark orange spots are people moving around here. Take a look at michigan, the most movement and where there are big demonstrations against the shelter at home orders and look at california, more of the light to medium shade of orange compared to other states. Now, lets take a closer look at california, when it comes to movement, before the shelter at home order effect, in early march, and about 19 of people would stay home on a typical day. And now during the peak of the shelter at home order, 45 . Last week, 38 of people stayed home. So more movement, change of about 7 , it shows californians are itching to get out and about. Well, a look at the rift between the cdc and the white house, that documents show that the white house ignored cdc advice. The Associated Press got a copy of the plan. The cdc recommended a Strong National response. It took the responsibility off the governors to device their plan saying it was dangerous for states to go along. And the plan recommended keeping states closed for a certain amount of days and then in the end the white house shelved the cdc guidance. And a cloudcovered sky. Four California AirNational Guard f15s record over the bay area as a way to say thank you to health care worker, First Responders and essential Health Care Workers. Weve seen this all over the nation today in california. And raj mathai joins us now. Quite a sight in the skies right now. Really. By car, if you go from fresno to the bay area, a couple of hours, but in an f15 fighter jet, its about five minutes, the California AirNational Guard, taking off from the Central Valley and giving the bay area a thrill. A lot of people were looking up. We launched our sky range ther morning, to get a better glimpse. Take a look. About the 10 00 a. M. Hour, around 10 15, circling the bay area, oakland and the bay bridge and San Francisco in the background, over the city, down the peninsula to san jose and i saw them in palo alto, at 11 00 a. M. , and their mission, it was straightforward. To buzz more than a dozen hospitals and health care facilities. This is what makes it so special a lot of grateful Health Care Workers on the ground, eyes in the sky, like so many of us, getting some jetfueled support. This is the scene at Regional Medical center, in san jose. It was emotional. You know, it was such a feeling of deep gratitude for the recognition, acknowledgment, for all of the work that the front line staff have been doing in the medical center. Were very grateful. We are very honored. And really grateful. It is kind to honor us on the front lines. Pretty cool. Everyone is like a kid when you see the fighter jets and a lot of people are wondering was this a waste of money to launch these jets not only here in the bay area but around the country, to help and inspire Health Care Workers, well, according to the air National Guard, they confirmed to us, about an hour ago, no extra cost to taxpayers. This was considered a training mission, which they conduct regularly so there you have it there. Coming up in a few minutes, dr. Anthony fauci getting a lot of heat from the business community. Is this justified . Were going to see you after the break. Thank you, raj. Ahead, small businesses, in contra costa county, hit by vandals. An owner tells us why the attack feels especially cruel. Later, goats gone wild. On the loose. The story behind this wild scene in the south bay. Im chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. Tracking a few showers right now. And a storm this weekend. Ill have full details in about eight minutes. Were following breaking news right now, a shooting in sunnyvale, on west iowa and mary street. By washington park. It happened just before 3 30 this afternoon. Investigators tell us one person was shot in critical condition. We dont know the circumstances surrounding that shooting at this point. But as soon as we do, well bring it to you online and on air. A Business Owner is angry about what he calls a rampage on main street. The frustration was posted on social media complete with a photo of broken glass in the front win zoe of his hot stuff cafe. He is not the only victim. There is a rash of vand limp at a time when all main street merchants are struggling to survive, they say the timing of the randly. Is just cruel. I was absolutely shocked. I have been doing a lot for the community lately. I helped the shelter. Ive been helping a cookie program, going to the hospital, the First Responders. I have a food truck. I try to do business in the food truck. Somebody wants to steal the brand new batteries in the truck. Yesterday, someone broke in my neighbors window. And police are asked to control the area more often and if anyone sees bad behavior, please call and report it. A flagwaving demonstration outside teslas electric car factory, it follows news out of almeda county, and tesla has agreed on how to reopen the factory but there was pushback back and forth earlier. A conservative group called the shelter at home plans a fascist lockdown and demanded the recall of Governor Newsom and most did not wear masks and ignored social distancing guidelines. Sharp words for the doctor who leads the White House Coronavirus task force, dr. Anthony fauci, he questioned his medical judgment. The president wants to reopen the economy, and schools right away but dr. Fauci warns about a potential outbreak, a second outbreak if we open too early or dont take the right precautions. Raj mathai joins us with the brewing battle between the two. You can read between the lines. It is getting testy and it is understandable, mixing business and politics, and mixing health. And thats a difficult and challenging mix. Dr. Fauci, whos literally been by President Trumps side, for weeks, physically, and figuratively, no longer. The doctor is warning of another possible outbreak and the president seemingly at least in public, doesnt want to hear about it. And it is a fundamental question here. Possibly losing your life savings, and your job, and your livelihood, or risk you and your loved ones getting infected. We chatted with nbc medical contributor dr. Batelia. How we respond determines what the shape of the pandemic looks like. Either we go from peace, to going down to valleys, with peaks and valleys or we see small controlled outbreaks that the Health Response is good and opening in smaller measures over a longer period of time until we have a vaccine or the worst Case Scenario which is what dr. Fauci expressed is that next fall we have a second peak which is compounded by the flu season and we have seen that in past pandemics, in 1918 pandemic, the second wave was specifically hard to deal with. Nobody knows and i think most scientists think that we know that were not immune, so were going to see more cases. You can see the leading Infectious Disease doctor based in boston and says this is a big problem moving forward. Politicians being pressuredbusi. Then questioning the recommendations by health leaders. This isnt just right now or this month. This will likely be the case for the next year or two. As we try to get the economy and business back on track. Guys, back to you. Okay. Thank you. The man known as the virus hunter is hospitalized with coronavirus. You see dr. Joseph here on nbc bay area before, a medical expert and he offers insight on the virus and today he tweeted this picture from a new orleans hospital and had a warning and a brief talk with nbc news. Dont be in a hurry to open up. I know it seems like your life is over, that, you know, life has been on hold for months and months and months, but im here to tell you, im a healthy 42yearold, and i can run five, ten miles no problem, very healthy lungs, and with the condition now, you can hear me, i can barely breathe. On twitter, the doctor says while hes improving he is not out of the woods yet. You can see more of his story on nbc nightly news coming up in about 15 minutes. Sobering when you see someone like that, sick as they are. Lets turn things over to chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. Hey, jeff, another kind of gloomy day outside. Not as much rain but certainly overcast. Yes, cloudy, and cool out there. And we do have some sunshine on the way. And then we are still tracking a storm system, as we move into this upcoming weekend. So definitely, as we have been mentioning, a little bit different for may, but it is keeping the fire danger adown a little bit. With the microclimate forecast, a little bit of rainfall, most in the bay area,. 17 in santa rosa. And i do have a few pockets of some moderate isolated heavier rainfall, down here through the trivalley, you can see the cell moving over livermore, pushing off toward the east, and we might see this going into tracy by 6 09 tonight. And now, tomorrows forecast, we have the cloud cover to start, so more overcast, and the as for the south bay, and the peninsula, and the trivalley. East bay at 53 and the north bay at 49. The north bay tomorrow morning, it will have the best chance here, spotty showers, around 8 30 in the morning. And then as we head through the afternoon, it is an isolated heat index shower in the forecast and more of those clouds. And temperatures, we do see warming up a degree or two, and that will put us here with some 70s from san jose to gilroy, for the east bay, looking at 70s in antioch, and 72 in danville. The peninsula, primarily 60. With an isolated 07, 70 in palo alto. San francisco, we will have some low 60s here, for the embarcadero and the mission. And for the north bay, 69 in napa, and 67 in santa rosa. So lets go ahead and move ahead toward the next storm system were following on sunday. By 1 00 in the morning, this approaches us here, right near the coastline. Then as we head through sunday morning, everybody should start to get some of this rainfall by 10 00 and also 11 00 in the morning. Totals overall would definitely be a little bit higher than weve been used to. Look at the zoomed out view on the righthand side of the screen, and you can see the color in blue, thats where most locations will get around 0. 2 of an inch. And some areas, closer to half to three quarters of an inch. For santa cruz mountains, for some of the higher mountains for the north bay as well. So definitely a decent amount of wet weather on sunday, where everybody should get wet. And now, my extended forecast, well see a chance here of spotty rain lingering into monday, and we will dry out tuesday and wednesday. Temperatures in San Francisco, remaining in the 60s. Okay, for the inland valleys, we are looking like this. 80 pi friday. So there is a little warmup. It will drop to 71 on sunday. And 69 on monday, and then low 70s as we head into tuesday and wednesday of next week. I got to admit, jeff and janelle, i like the rainfall to keep that fire danger down, but today was a little bit of a tough one. It really does change things up when you get more than two days in a row of cloud cover, you really want that sunshine back. So friday is going to be our day for that. And more rain this weekend. Okay, thanks so much, jeff. Well, apparently, they are not social distancing. Goats. More goats. And even more goats. Marianne favro spoke to neighbors and got a look at all of the aftermath. Goats gone wild. They may not be members of silver creek country club, but yesterday, more than 100 goats went through the neighborhood, like they owned the place, heading right toward amit patels home. All of a sudden they decided to make a turn and get on our driveway and come really close us to. That was quite exciting and then we realized our garage was open so we were a little nervous that they were going to get into the garage. Oh, no. It was definitely a quarantine boredom buster. I was in my room, doing schoolwork, and then i hear like a tam, a stampede. They bust through an electric fence and through the roses and leaving deposits before they were rouned up. The goats are back at work, eating the grass to reduce the fire hazard and perhaps reminiscing about the herds wild run, past homes. In san jose, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. Okay, more goats, this time, across the bay, this video was posted on twitter of the dog park, and the goats are there, too, a different herd, helping clear the weeds and the brush. They have worked with caltrans and neighboring buildings to get those goats. Thats great. When we come back, our celebration for the class of 2020, continues, to mark their milestone coming up. And.
