These are a number of businesses the governor is going to address that can kind of hand him that greater increase social distancing and the sanitation requirements. We are talking manufacturing, logistics and even retail as well. We are here at the highland family bike store in san jose. They are considered an essential business and they have been very busy, seeing a boom is usually reserved for summer or christmas. But the income isnt what you might expect. Theyve had to do all of the repairs. The staff and four family members were like, go, store hours are limited. Basically, businesses are limited. It makes for a long day processing orders and doing deliveries. So the Small Business owners are here to get retail and manufacturing headed back to full strength. My manufacturers did not know this was coming. So they did not plan for this. So every single week its kind of claiming the lottery of figuring out which bicycles we can get in stock. Many of them are sold out until july, august, september. Reporter sow might be saying, hey, dont restaurants also fall under states . They do. The governor said restaurants will be continued to be limited. They opened the dining room to close it a day later after the county warned he could face a restraining order. In an effort to help restaurants like his all around the bay area, the California Restaurant Association says their own recommendations to governor newsome, including seating only families and limiting salad bars and sharing chips and salsa, sticking to temperature checks. For workers and having servers wear face masks. That would be, of course, on top of social distancing requirements and sanitation requirements. We know firefighters are there on the scene right now. At this time the reports are showing no injury, but, of course, we have a crew there at the scene. We are going to keep monitoring to find out what possibly caused this bus fire. You see right there, that bus, that bta bus on fire. This is outside valley medical but no reported injuries. You know, when it comes to reopening the state, we dont know yet what the human costs will be as people go back to work. But so many seem ready to take the chance. We have jobless claims showing 3 million 160,000 americans applied for unemployment last week. Tomorrow, we get the unemployment numbers from the Labor Department where the Unemployment Rate could approach 20 . Taxes avoided the most layoffs in silicon valley. Ride shares and travel services took the brunt of it. They tell the silicon Business Journal its let a small number of employees go. We will take you out to the big board, the dow industrials are up 300 points. Nasdaq actually turned positive for the year. So, marcus, we will get those labor numbers. The Unemployment Rates. Well, we have new drone video to show you. This is the damage left behind from that Early Morning explosion we told you about on the bay. An illegal marijuana operation blew up this morning and severely damaged that warehouse. This is in san leandro. Nbc bay area bob redell is there, what are police saying about all of this . Reporter well, theyve arrested two people and theyve contained two more at a hospital in connection with this warehouse explosion. Were on timothy drive. Its not far from the Marina Boulevard access off 880 in san leandro. San leandro fire released this image. You can see a good portion of the roof was blown off. Police say inside was an illegal butane honeywell was inside. Something ignited and set the building on fire. All four escaped. One with a broken arm. Others with bruises. You will notice pd brought in a search dog this morning to sniff through the rubble. The Fire Department doesnt believe anyone died in the blast. They just want to make sure. The plast was so strong, it sent debris a couple blocks away. It rattled a man across the feet less than 50 feet from the blast. I was using the bathroom. It lit up, it blew up like a bomb. It lit up my trailer. I looked out the window, stuff was a couple hundred feet in the air. It just blew right out. This is my first time seeing a butane Honeywell Oil lab on this scale. Weve encountered some of them in small areas, mostly like a homeless encampment. But i have not seen one on this large of a scale. Well, police are searching for a man they believe set six fires overnight in san rafael. This all happened in a neighborhood along bellam boulevard around 5 00 this morning. Five cruise had to put out several dumpster fires and responded to an empty apartment complex fire. The complex had to be evacuated. One, no one was hurt in any of these fires. Now, police say that they are looking for a 42yearold, james thomas duffy. If you have any information about his whereabouts, you are asked to call police. We are following up on a bay area effort to try to detect outbreaks of the coronavirus. Last month, we told you about a stanford survey aimed at pinpointing infection hot spots. I spoke to a medical director at digital tellth at the university. He says the response is great. But still more needs to be done. With the daily survey, we need 1 to 2,000 people per county to respond every day. We are pretty confident we will be able to make some predictions where the outbreaks will be way before people actually get tested and actually end up in our hospital. Specifically, he says, that the greatest need for the survey right now is in the north bay and east bay. They are now serving up toilet paper, kitchen towels and kitchen staples. Sales were up 13 in the first week as the hospital used its supply chain connections to help save their workers a trip to the store. And they can find toilet paper, paper towels, the coveted cup of noodles, which i guess is something quarantine people in their hospital right now. You have to spend time finding those things. We are doing a variety of produce items, eggs, milk, butter, pretty much anything that people ask us if we can get, we will try and get it. So, almost everything. It shows him running through his neighborhood. This was back in february. A former Police Officer george mcmichaels and his son travis can be seen there shooting him. Michael says he thought he was connected to several recent breakins in the neighborhood and began to violently attack travis. Well, aubreys mother says her son was just out for a daily jog. It seems its something that he did, he enjoyed doing. What pains me the most is that he was killed but then the authority, they truly let me down. Aubrey was unarmed at the time of his death. Protests have been organized calling for criminal charges. Prosecutors say grand juries cant be called until june due to the pandemic. The Georgia Bureau of investigations is also investigating this. Happening today, ucsf is helping the states Contact Tracing program off the ground. Experts will provide training and Technical Assistance for the program meant to become the norm in all 58 counties. Its being launched online in tandem with the Public Health department to teach Contact Tracing techniques, to help limit the spread. Governor newsome has talked about putting 20,000 people across the state for work needed. Santa clara county alone may need 100,000 staffers. When it comes to the phenomenon of cars, parades, you may say the south bay leaders have accounted with taking the air out of the tires with this one. Saernt clara is demanding people there ban all of this, those driveby celebrations as weve seen so many people capture them on video. They say the ban has always been there. It just hasnt been getting enforced. Now they are worried it may be popular a lot of people may use it during High School Graduation celebrations. For a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, not so busy right now. A vanderbilt Study Suggests a huge surge once the shelter at home ends. Fires already burning like this vegetation fire in oakland yesterday afternoon. Firefighters contained it. No Property Damage or no injuries. But one of the many fires across the region. Cal fire says it is launching a Public Service campaign, encouraging residents to be proactive about protecting their homes. They want to you clear away dead trees, brushes and vegetations within 100 feet of your home. People are telling us they do have time at home now. They have more time to address their Defensible Space responsibilities. Pg e is also preparing for the fire season. Its hardening their grid to modify potential safety power shutoffs. The utility is trying to shorten them and reduce the number of customer whos lose the power. Well, we were talking about that heat, kari. It is certainly right here. You have been talking about it all week headed our way. So now were dealing with it. Reporter today those temperatures are already starting to ramp up. Tomorrow will be the peak of our heat. The good news is this doesnt all last that long. Then we cool down for the weekend and there may be rain headed our way. As we get a look at what were expecting. How that compares to the record High Temperature in santa rosa. Were looking at a high of 91 degrees today. The record is 94. You can see that these numbers are close to a record but we are most likely not going to set a few record today as that heat really starts to ramp up. In livermore, were looking at a high of 91. But the record today is 101 degrees and just keep in mind that our normal High Temperatures is about 72 to 73 degrees. So were way above that today. And as we are out and about in this heat, you want to make sure that you are keeping in mind how you feel and that you are taking lots of breaks. You are drink lots of water. Also, keep a cool towel on your neck, especially if you will be out doing some yard. Its really not the best time to go out for a run during the early part of the day. Keep in mind, inside the vehicle it can be 30 to 50 degrees hotter than outside of a car. So you never want to leave your pets outside of a vehicle. Make sure you dont leave children in the vehicle. Also, take care of those pets who will be outside, bring them inside, let them get some airconditioning. Heres our natural airconditioning. We can see that storm system that will be approaching. So we only have to deal with this heat a little while. As this High Pressure builds, it causes the air to sink and warms up that air. As we go into the weekend, a new storm system comes in. As it does so, it will bring cooler temperatures, also a chance of showers next week so lets talk about that chance of rain. Because some of our computer models have been pretty promising and consistent in showing we will get some rain. Especially in the north bay. Its showing we have the possibility of getting threequarters of an inch of rain in yukiah. At least a tenth to a quarterinch of rain expected. Its looking good. Hopefully, this holds up. We have to make it through this heat. That will dry out a lot of that vegetation we were talking about. Hopefully, we can replenish that moisture. We are looking at hot weather and a dry weekend with highs in the low 80s. Mothers day is looking really nice. Highs in the upper 70s. A pretty big cooldown for those inland areas.
