As the city shuts down more area, many of the citys Small Businesses are wondering when they will be able to open back up and when they do, mayor london breed reiterated today there will be some critical changes including cutting the number of tables in half. Were going to do what we can do to survive. Basically. If we have to only have half the tables, thats what we do, and we supplement with takeout. The citys richmond neighborhood, it could be one of the many small et ryes that will struggle with a partial reopening. The restaurant only has four tables inside, four tables outside and four seats at the bar and cutting that number in half could make it nearly impossible to stay in business. Strength in numbers, nevada and colorado are joining us here in california, to help determine when to reopen. Today, Governor Newsom announced those two states are joining california, oregon, and washington, in this west coast pact. The states say they will Work Together to share data and best practicing. The governor also said he was disappointed when he saw images of packed california beaches over the weekend. This virus doesnt take the weekends off. This virus doesnt go home because it is a beautiful sunny day around our coast. He said he would consider stricter enforcement of social distancing if public spaces continue to draw crowds. People are getting a little quarantine fatigue, so will this be a continuing problem . People ignoring the social distancing guidelines. More importantly, how damaging could it be from a medical perspective . Lets bring in jessica, working from home. Jessica . We expected to hear that this shelter at home would be extended but when Governor Newsom said the words you could hear collective ugh from people around the bay area and across the state who were hoping to get the loosening of restrictions like weve seen in other states and i spoke to nbcs medical expert dr. John torres who says we are walking a fine line between our countrys financial health, and the message health, and sandwiched in between there, our mental exhaustion. Jessica, they even have a name for it. They call it quarantine fatigue. Weve been inside so much we will do anything to get outside we just want out of our houses and apartments but the concern is, we know regardless of when we open things up, that cases will rise, and the key here is to make sure that you walk that fine line, that fine balance of opening it up to get the economy back to get people out of their houses but at the same time not opening up too soon or too much so due get more cases. Dbirx said this weekend that social distancing is a new reality in the summer and if we see a resurge of cases in the fall and is this something we will just have to learn to live with . I think it is something we have to learn to live with in the short term and by the short term i mean a year or so, because we again know that those cases are never going to go away this summer, there will be a low number of cases during the summer and come back again in the fall, so youre going to hear Public Health officials opening things up and saying we can go about doing our things, maintain a little bit of social distancing and get back to the point where we need to wear masks, and then it might get to the point where we need to stay at home for a while, to keep this under control. So the short term is a year of social distancing. Dr. Torres says until we get that vaccine which may be a year, year and a half away, this is the way we are going to live. The vaccine, he says, will be the game changer. Now, coming up at 6 00, we talk about Clinical Trials of all of these drugs being tested to see if they can help with the coronavirus. Here it is. A threepronged approach. Based on testing. Part one, make sure all states are testing at full capacity. This means producing more supplies, so the numbers of test sites can increase. Part two. States need to be able to track and respond to outbreaks. The Trump Administration also wants states to find ways to identify people with the virus who are asymptomatic. And finally states have to develop programs to quickly conduct contact tracing. Today President Trump says the country is flattening the curve and all parts of the United States are quote in good shape. Testing is not going to be a problem at all. In fact, its going to be one of the great assets that we have. The president also said some states could see schools reopen before the end of this school year. Janelle . Marathon Petroleum Says they will maintain regular employee Staffing Levels during this straer shutdown, and will resume normal operations once demand for gas ramps up. Check out this unusual site. Oil tankers more than usual floating in the San Francisco bay. And in southern california, there are five times as many just parked off the l. A. And long beach coastline. It is the same in singapore. Since fuel demand worldwide has chanced there is no place to store the glut of extra oil and gas, so ships have turned into basically floating storage tanks. Hair salon owners and stylists across california are looking at georgia where stylists are back in business officially, and theyre wondering here when will that be us, Jessica Aguirre is working from home talked to the owner of a salon who is ready to go back to work and make some income. Yes, she totally. Is Lindsey Fernandez says that she is ready to go back to work. When she found out today that thats not going to happen at least for another month, its a huge blow to her and her 18 stylists who need to get back to work. Are ready to get back to work. And she says this next month could really be horrible for them. Now, fernandez owns elevation salon in livermore. On average, they see 70 people a day. Since march 14th now, so seven weeks, they have seen no one. So fernandez sent me what she says for the staff is no paychecks. Tell me a little bit about how difficult this time period has been for you and your stylists, some 18 stylists, i mean this is basically you dont work, you dont get paid, right . It has been a big strain on all of us. Its hard to sustain the normal every day living that were used to. Like you said, if you dont work you dont get paid. And we havent been able to get any of those loans granted to us. So i also have to still pay my rent at elevation, and my normal every day bills. How soon would you like to be able to open your doors again . I am ready next week. I am ready whenever they allow us to. I want to go about it the right way. And make sure that everyones health, you know, is my first priority, my clients, my staff, the community, everyone. But we are ready to go back. So now opening the door means opening with precaution and she says she is ready to do that. How she sees this happening is really clients at every other station. Asking everyone to take their temperature. Make sure between clients at least every station is sanitized. Having her staff take their temperature. Sending texts to get rid of the waiting room, sending texts to clients when theyre ready to come back in. Fernandez says she ready to take all of these precautions and she fears if this continues to be extended, its going to be more dangerous for the stylists and customers because you will see more of the off the books at home hair colorings and haircuts taking place at home. She says that is a greater risk to the public than opening the doors to her salon where she rotates the precaution if she has to. Raj and janelle . Oh, my goodness, it was so bad this weekend, i was doing weed control in my yard trying to keep the fire danger down, the weed whacker out and at the same time the pollen was blowing around and the covid mask did double duty helping me doing yard work as well. We will get a closer look at the pollen here in just a second. The top headline graphic, i want to have you understand, a few spots closer to 90 degrees. Its one thing to say, but i want you to understand whats happening with the weather pattern and we have the High Pressure that is building in. The High Pressure is warm, dry, and descending air, and thats going to sit right on top of california. So we get that much warmer weather about, a five to ten degree increase and a little bit of wind as well. At this point, we can pretty much chalk up our rain season to not a good one. We are down six to 16 inches and we wont see that catch up by any means. Were really seeing things dwindle. Snow pack 52 of normal. So what about that pollen . We have seen a surge in some key areas, and i wanted to show you right now, that oak, cedar and pine, those are all in the high category. Grasses in the moderate. You can go to my twitter page, i just retweeted this, so you can compare the different symptoms between covid19, flu, and allergies. And look at this, into the east bay, out to pittsburg, antioch, im calling for a 90 in pittsburgh tomorrow, and thats the warmest temperature, concord at 87. And notice, as we head closer to the bay, and the peninsula, numbers drop off, we get a little breeze off the water, it will make all the difference and 80 in redwood city and really drop off in San Francisco, down to 66 in the marina, 71 in the mission. Not too bad for you there. Good news a lot of folks dont have ac. 87 in napa. 85 in novato. The extended forecast, it is dry right now. The next search day, on again, off again winds thursday and friday as well. For the inland valleys, we are looking at that 88 tomorrow. So real, real warm. But we drop to 78 on wednesday. And this weekend is already looking good. So coming up at 6 00, we will take a look at our long range temperature outlook over the next two weeks, and well get you squared away on that, but raj and janelle, i know you both have allergies, too, i feel your pain, i have the allergy medicine going today, so its kind of brutal out there for that.
