It uses a form of uv light called far uvc that kills any bacteria or germs a person may be exposed to including coronavirus. The owner developed that technology to make his employees feel a little more comfortable when they return to work. For us it was totally worth it to guarantee the safest environment for our team. We are looking at some dry weather here as we bring you back home. This is the kind of weather were going to see all week. No changes ahead as the area of High Pressure builds and keeps it dry. We will see the storm systems at least pushing down cooler air but not expecting any rain the next few days and our temperatures will be warm for today and tomorrow. There will be a slight cooldown for the rest of the week. Well bring it back to the 70s which is closer to normal by the end of the week. As we head over to you, mike, how is it looking for the morning commute . Probably close to 70 but lets say 65 and give people the benefit of the doubt. 35 is the number you should come down to as you head southbound to the 280 interchange. Theres a shift to 280 continuing progress there. As we get to the rest of the bay, there are reports of a little tree fire. I dont think thats related to the construction going on. Well follow that. Fire sweeping through a san bruno apartment and residents are telling us what happened just before they were able to get out. Sharon . Reporter laura, you can see firefighters are still on scene here. The fire is out but they are still here trying to collect more information on what caused this fire. Over this way you can see that there are people who are wearing their masks waiting to get back in. They were up late since theres no work the next morning. You can see smoke coming from the complex. Fire broke out at about 3 00. They were able to get out quickly because they were still up watching tv. I heard a couple of explosions and wondering, is that gunshots or Something Like that. Then i heard the neighbor upstairs running back and forth above us. I was thinking, whats going on upstairs . It sounded like theyre panicking over something. I come out from my living room and tried to open my door, the back door, and then i feel really hot. And i told my son, its a fire. Its a fire. We come out and i told the people come out, come out. Theres a fire. Reporter so far no word yet on the cause or how much damage. For the fattily there were no injuries. And back here live you can see firefighters here lined up along the street and police. We were asked earlier whether they were wearing ppe, protective personal protective equipment. It looks like they are not responding well to this fire, wearing just regular gear. A lot of the people here, again, said they were up very late. Covid19 shelter in place affecting them, allowing them to have some extra time to get out safely. Reporting live from san bruno. All right, thank you very much, sharon. Well, it happened in vallejo and what happened there was downright over the top. Now an elected official is apologizing. Today in the bays kris sanchez joining us now with those details of the person throwing the cat during the meeting, kris. Reporter yeah, marcus. I cant say that i have any good reason to report for throwing a cat especially during a teleconference call where everybody can see it, but i can show you what was leading up to what happened on april 20th. Take a listen. Okay, first id like to introduce my cat. That is vallejo planning commissioner Chris Platzer on a zoom call on april 20th. He picked up and introduced his cat and then threw it off screen. He is also seen drinking out of a green bottle that appears to be a beer. We are trying to confirm reports that he resigned but a city spokesman said they have not had any contact since the april 20th meeting and have not received an official resignation. The Statement Reads in part the city does not condone the behavior that planning commissioner Chris Platzer exhibited during the april 20th planning commissioner meeting this type of behavior does not model the core values of the city of vallejo. Whether or not he has resigned may be a moot point because on tomorrows City Council Agenda the mayor and another councilmember requested an action item to remove Chris Platzer from that position and you can assume that we will be there covering that meeting. In san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Kris, thank you. We have the latest numbers on bay area coronavirus numbers. More than 7,500 people have tested positive a. Mayor london breed is making it known that ppe and testing shortages are still a concern. This should be a federal coordinated effort. This morning sausalito is looking to possible new ways to enforce social distancing guidelines. The city had to close some beach parking lots. The harbor master said there were just too many people for the small area and many werent Wearing Masks or even practicing social distancing. It was total mayhem yesterday and even friday was busier. I would say we had over 100 people on the beach. We just really want this virus to go away as fast as possible and that was not conducive to that happening. Now the city says parking lots will remain closed there on weekends and holidays indefinitely. All right. Monday morning, lets get a look at the forecast. Were coming off really nice weekend, dont you think, guys . It was so nice. It was hot. Yesterday i did an outside workout. You did . I did. Did you post it on social media . The way i looked i didnt want anyone to see that. I havent worked out in probably like four months. Pictures or it didnt happen. It happened. Right now were starting out with temperatures in the low to mid50s and as we go into today it will warm up. Here is a live look at walnut creek. A beautiful start to the day. Our temperatures will start out in the mid50s but reach the upper 70s already by noon. Well talk about this and also a cooldown in the forecast coming up in a few minutes and, mike, you have a look at that Early Morning commute. I do, kari. The big note, i want to show southbound 101. You shifted over to southbound 280. Thats been the progress theyve made. We talked about that. But that requires you to slow down to 35 miles per hour. Thats the only slowing required. Everything else is speed limit. Lets take you out there because theres been a lot of buzz about something called animal crossing, which is a video game. Lets just check it out and show you some video. Its not shooting or fighting. My kids like it. Theyre tween and between but people twice their age like it because they had it when they were kids. You explore and do stuff we cant do in real life anymore. People are coming back to find community online. You can meet up with players you know in real life and have them over in your virtual island. What happened last week, about thursday, this tweet was getting shared as one player was surprised with a request from elijah wood. He wanted to buy some turnips, which is what you do there. They were for sale on this persons island. He asked if he could come over. So maybe the new normal is getting out there virtually and doing some celebrity watching or celebrity spotting or celebrity crossing. Interesting. Should be a lot of fun. Thats crazy. My kids play animal crossing, but i didnt know adults did. We do it all. Its like the Third Generation of the game so theyve been playing since they were the same age. Probably. Im just dating myself. Thanks, mike. Coming up next, take a short drive out of the bay area and you can golf and go boating. Well tell you where and the rules you have to follow. New this morning one person recovering after being struck by a car in san jose. This video in to our newsroom shows the aftermath. It happened about 10 00 last night. The victims condition is unknown. Theyre not saying if the driver will be charged. Some Southern California beaches are already open again and as you can see right here warm weather could not keep the crowds away over the weekend in orange county. Beaches are set to open in San Diego County. While some are concerned, beach lovers say theyre ready. Were crazy to think were only going to get the locals. It makes sense to open them and we think all the beaches should be open. Openings in San Diego County will roll out gradually with decisions made city by city. A lot of coastline will still be inaccessible today but in some cases surfing and swimming will again be allowed. Across california more than 43,000 confirmed coronavirus cases. More than 1,700 people across our state have died. Decision 2020 and no surprise here, new for you this morning House Speaker nancy pelosi is the latest big name to endorse former Vice President joe biden in his run for the white house and sent out a prerecorded video said bidens helping pass obamacare and the 2009 stimulus proves he has the leadership skills to guide america through the pandemic. 5 48 for you and the white house is still dealing with the president s strange comments at thursdays Coronavirus Press conference. Scott mcgrew, the president is now talking about just putting an end to them. Yeah, or at least his own participation. Good morning, marcus, saying theyre not worth his time. The coronavirus teams briefing originally didnt club the president. Some werent even televised but quickly turned into this tv show with the president often at the center. This is fridays press conference which came to an abrupt end with the president taking no questions and, of course, on thursday you had this. Disinfectant knocks it out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do Something Like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. It would be interesting to check that. Youll have to use medical doctors but it sounds interesting to me. The president said he was being sarcastic and wanted to, quote, see what would happen when reporters heard him say that about disinfectant. He would say later, again, he was speculating about the benefit of somehow using disinfectant on hands. He never used the word hands in his speech there and, of course, weve been using Hand Sanitizer for any number of weeks. The Washington Post watched all those briefings. All 35, thats 28 hours. Of those 28 hours, slightly less than half were President Trump talking. In that time hes been asked 346 questions. In his answers he attacks someone a third of the time. One out of every four answers roughly contains what the post says is false information. One out of ten times the president speaks hes reminding us he cut off travel from china. The New York Times over the weekend said concern is growing among republicans they could lose the presidency and the senate and increasing the call for the president to step away from the corona teams briefings. President trump reacting to news this morning that he is considering firing the secretary of health and Human Services alex azar. He says those reports are not true. Well be watching to see if there is a briefing. Well tweet if also. There is. Anticipated delays for the u. S. Census count may well spill over to redistricting. That always follows the once a decade event. Some areas that may have a big impact who controls state or local powers or what laws pass or fail. If the census does push its deadline back to next summer, which Congress Must still approve, the backups may eventually delay future primary elections. Something good for you this morning coming out of Southern California and, laura, this is a good one when a pandemic when a veteran turned 105 years old, well, of course the party comes to him. Fire trucks and military trucks led a parade of cars wishing sam sachs a happy birthday yesterday. It didnt stop there. The resident received some 7,000 cards including from the president. He planned to place u. S. Flags on his front lawn. I asked for 105 flags. Presently there are over 400 flags. Who could have imagined this was happening to little sam sachs from grand forks, north dakota. Sachs was a paraglider during the dday invasion of normandy. Yesterdays parade lasted about an honor and he received an honor from his birth city in grand forks. Boy, 105, that is something to celebrate. Hes still got it. Hes moving along. That should be standard for what hes done. I was thinking that, pandemic or not, a big parade like that at 105, you deserve it. Right. Here we go, moving on with the morning. 5 52 and meteorologist kari hall keeping track of the forecast for us. Today would be a nice social distancing parade for anyone out there having a birthday. Yeah, weve been seeing that for birthdays as well as even just teachers, hey, were still here and we definitely miss you and so its been great to see all of those acts of kindness around the bay area and around the world. As we check out whats happening here, starting out with a cool morning in parts of the north bay with mid40s.
