Together we can help save the restaurants we love. Right now at 6 30, coming up, funding for the world health organization. President trumps say he is not happy with the organization in the early stages of the outbreak. Several notable announcement froms President Trump today. We will start with the w. H. O. He said the organization didnt share all the facts about this disease in a timely manner and that cost thousands of lives. As the organizations leading sponsor, the United States has a duty to insist on full accountability. And the political tug of war with the governors, the president says each governor must submit a detailed plan for their state that the federal government will support or deny. Some states can lift the social distancing restrictions by may 1st or sooner. Governor newsom is working with the governors of Washington State and oregon. And the east coast, there is a regional pact. Insisting the sfral government is a backup. President trump says he alone has the power to lift stay at home orders. The governors, disagree. Science, public health, must be the guide. The president doesnt have total authority. Testing will help, and i could reignite the spread of the coronavirus. What is President Trump saying he can big foot the kgovernors. Lets bring in larry, lets start with the question, where President Trump has authority over the governors of the states. All the governors are saying, no, i ghetto call the shots. Where do we stand . You know, yes, sjess jessicas on the day of the week. Yesterday, President Trump said that he had had total authority. Thats what he said. Lots of push back from him, from the governors. Today he said, well, come the next week or two, im going to authorize the governors to do whatever they want to do when ever they want to do it. What a difference 24 hours make. But quite frankly, he got tremendous push back on what he said yesterday. But no president in the United States has had that authority. Because the constitution says the president doesnt have that authority. Before we get to governorer newsom, he says he wants the governors of the states to submit to him a e detailed frame work and he will will give it a yay or an nay. Does he have an authority . He nearly gave guidelines to what they sl be doing. Jess cardinals youka, you a direct. Whether the governors nor on that is a different story. The president does have powers. He certainly does. He could have used the defense production act. Much better than he did he does not have the power to demand or re150e6 it. States can do it or not do it. They can honor it or not honor it. Because the tenth amendment gaifs states the authority. It certainly looks clumsy and gets to the the differencens between the governors who are really on the front lines here and the president who has stood back, stood back until now from all of the stuff saying the states, you go do it. Lets pivot and talk about Governor Newsom. He laid out the frame work for california to get out of the shelter at home. He didnt give an exact time line, what a lot of people were hoping for. Ho so he is parcelling out information. He said its about giving hope. Do you think he did that and its enough to keep the economy moving forward that they will be able to get out of this . Governor newsom has been careful not to raise expectations. That is one of the great differences between the president and Governor Newsom in california and Governor Cuomo in new york. The president has raised expectations to see them fall flat. They have not happened. Go back to january, we dont have to recite that stuff. Governor newsom he has been careful. He does want to go too far. He doesnt want to get peoples expectations up. Today, he laid out what he said were the six points, the six areas where the state has to be totally prepared before it can move forward. He said, well, you want to know when. I cant tell you when. The commit toties are meeting now in all of six areas. We are going to come up with what we expect. How we have it done. We will get back to new a couple weeks and let you know. I cant tell you, he said, whether may 1st, may 15st, whatever, and when we do, it has to be very slowly and very carefully. Notice the difference here. He dampered expectations. He said, i want to keep in touch. A totally different approach. Larry, were you taken aback when the governor said, hopefully we will be able to go back to school in september or october. That was a little startling to me. And the timing is so different than that of President Trump. So far, the governor has played very nice with the president. But in this one issue, he really keeps says, its the science. Were going to go with the science. What is your impression . He is going with the science. He said, basically, our health comes first. We cant put the kids in school unless we know its safe for them to be in school. We cant open up businesses unless its safe for the workers to go there. We have to to depend on science. We have to make sure we can be tested. We have to make sure that people know who has the virus and who doesnt. Very careful, and yeah, a lot of people especially those with young ones were probably a little taken back when they heard maybe not september. But think about it a second. Wouldnt it be nicer to hear come late july or august you will be okay in september, rather than hear, yeah, you will be fine in september and here in august, you wont be. So once again, it gets to lowering expectations, and then having people be surprised if things work out. He is very much dedicated to going by the science, by health care first, the economy second. Okay, larry, nice to see you at home and healthy. Thanks, jessica. The wait is over. Former president obama officially endorsing joe biden. The event was lime streamed. President obama says now is the time during this pandemic. He lauded bidens experience. Choosing joe to be my Vice President is one of the webest decisions i have made. He has character and experience to guide us through one of our darker times and heal us. Biden responded online, says this endorsement means the world to jill and me. We are going to brild on the progress we mading to. President trump responding saying President Trump saying he had no other choice.
