Reporter well, right now scientists are working to process those samples right here at this lab in richmond. Now, the results are expected tomorrow as the cruise ship hovers about 70 miles right outside the golden gate bridge. The test kits were flown in by helicopter and then given a Police Escort to the richmond lab. Tonight its a waiting game for people like barney, who has been told to stay inside his cabin as Health Officials determine if anyone has the coronavirus. Our hope is that, you know, nobody has it, that everybody tests negative, and that were all able to get off the cruise ship and get back to life. Reporter the governor issuing a health emergency, ordering test kits to be delivered to the ship this morning. Testing protocols are being put into place on the ship for those passengers and crew that have shown flulike symptoms or may have been exposed to the virus. Reporter at least three people who cruised to mexico on that same ship have gotten the virus. That includes a Placer County man who died from covid19. 62 people on that cruise stayed onboard, taking the next cruise to hawaii. Those passengers and others who are now coming down with flulike symptoms are getting tested as the ship remains at sea. Just want to let everybody know were doing great and just keep praying for us. And, yeah, were going to get through this. Reporter Health Officials say it is unclear when or where that cruise ship will eventually come to shore. There are now Seven Members of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety that are anxiously waiting to see if the man they tried helping this morning may have been a victim of covid19. Emergency crews were called to help a 72yearold man who may have suffered a cardiac event. When they started performing cpr, they learned a very concerning piece of information. A Family Member advises that the patient had recently been on a cruise where two other passengers were suspected of having covid19. Reporter the 72yearold died onscene. The coroner is trying to figure out a cause of death but it might be 24 hours until that can be determined. I have been reassured by the county executive that theyre working their very best to make sure that the autopsy report comes back as soon as possible. Reporter this department is just the latest to be affected by the spread of coronavirus. In washington state, more than two dozen members of the Kirkland Fire Department are out of service, quarantined after responding to a nursing home where eight residents have now died from covid19. And at hospitals here in northern california, nurses and other Health Care Workers are also being sidelined. As of today, more than 80 of our nurse members have been in quantity. Reporter some of those nurses were potentially exposed when they came into contact with a patient who was taken to uc davis medical center. And right now none of those seven people who are in home isolation from the department of Public Safety are going to be tested, at least until the county coroner makes the determination on cause of death. Its a Scenario School districts all over the bay area are hoping to avoid but are planning for. Reporter San Franciscos superintendent of schools announces the district is closing Lowell High School at least for a few days after learning a parent of a lowell student is being treated for coronavirus.
