But trumps attempt to distract from impeachment news did not work because as this is all happening, the house is also releasing bombshell new documents involving trumps lawyer, Rudy Giuliani. And two of rudys indicted associates, lev parnas and igor fruman. Remember these guys . The mario and luigi of entry level mobsters [ laughter ] theyre the soviet turner and hooch except theyre both hooch. [ laughter ] it look like offbrand russian Cabbage Patch dolls. What patch. [ laughter ] its just its just cabbage dolls. Now lets remember that its well established these guys were working for trump. There are multiple photos of them with trump and rudy they had at least ten separate interactions with trump. They had told associates they had been given special assignment by the president like some sort of james bond mission. And one of trumps former lawyers one of trumps former lawyers even wrote a letter to congress stating that parnas and fruman assisted giuliani in connection with his representation of President Trump. Thats right these guys look like the guys who spray your bowling shoes when you turn them in, were supposedly representing trump [ laughter ] i guess its all part of trumps strategy, to surround himself with lawyers who look guiltier than he does [ laughter ] if you saw all four of these guys in a Police Lineup and the cops asked you to point out the suspect, youd need all four fingers. It was him. [ laughter ] so its wellestablished, these guys worked directly for trump in a scheme to get ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election by digging up dirt on joe biden. In fact, in one of those documents the house released last night, there was a letter written by rudy to the new ukrainian president in may of 2019, in which rudy requested a private meeting to discuss what we now know was their scheme to cheat in the 2020 election. Rudy said explicitly in that letter that he was working for trump, while simultaneously trying to claim he wasnt working for the president and insisting that all of this is very normal. Heres the first paragraph of rudys letter. Dear, president olek zelensky, i am private counsel to president donald j. Trump. Just to be precise i represent him as a private citizen. Not as president of the United States. This is quite common under american law because the duties and privileges of a president and a private citizen are not the same separate representation is usual process. Wow, when you have to start your letter by explaining that what youre doing is not suspicious, that is definitely suspicious. [ laughter ] like when you text a weed dealer for the first time and say, im writing to obtain marijuana for medical purposes, and not because my parents are out of town. [ laughter and applause but in many ways in many ways, that letter was one of the least shocking things the house released last night. There were also additional notes and Text Messages, related to the scheme to get ukrainian president zelensky to investigate joe biden. For example, there are handwritten notes from parnas, on stationary from the ritzcarlton in vienna where parnas literally says and these are completely real, get zelensky to announce that the biden case will be investigated and do my magic and cut a deal. What magic was this guy gonna do [ laughter ] other than make a meatball sandwich disappear tada. [ laughter ] and then, there were the Text Messages, which were ominous, chilling and bizarre for example, they also introduced a completely new character into this whole saga a trump supporter from connecticut, named robert hyde, who owns a landscaping business and ran for congress hyde was apparently working with parnas on this whole scheme in ukraine. And yes, before you ask, there are also multiple photos of hyde posing with trump. How is it possible that trump has taken photos with every meathead goon in the tristate area [ light laughter ] trumps like a mall santa from wannabe goodfellas. These guys look like theyre starring in a kids show called spongebob squarehead. [ laughter ] panas and hyde apparently had an ongoing exchange of Text Messages in which they appeared to be stalking and spying on the former u. S. Ambassador to ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch you might remember that yovanovitch was a key impeachment witness, who was the target of smears by trump and his inner circle because she was a Career Foreign Service official who they saw as an obstacle to their criminal scheme in fact, at various points, she was told rudy and his goons had plans for her and that there were concerns for her security and now, we have these Text Messages in which it appears hyde and parnas were closely tracking her movements and planning something very ominous. We are starting to see the contents of the cell phone and files of one lev parnas. And it is giving us a window into a rather astounding operation, supervised by Rudy Giuliani in the name of the president. Text messages suggesting that former u. S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch may have been under physical surveillance. Robert hyde, a trump supporter and congressional candidate claimed to have contact with a private Security Team monitoring the ambassadors moves and communications hes talking about Marie Yovanovitch, the ambassador he says, shes under heavy protection shes talked to three people her phone is off her computer is off. Theyll let me know when shes on the move. Then later that day, theyre willing to help. If you we would like a price. Seth holy [ bleep ]. This idiot literally wrote in a text message that his guys were willing to help if you would like a price these guys are a lot dumber than the criminals on tv. Those criminals are always using burner phones and switching cars, meeting in back alleys in real life, these guys were texting each other and putting up posters on telephone poles that said, looking for thugs to do crimes. [ laughter ] this is for trump as citizen, not as president he is my friend. Heres a picture of us. [ applause ] so all, every bit of this damning new evidence is coming out as the senate prepares to hold only the third impeachment trial of a president in history. And whatever happens, that will be a historic stain on trumps presidency that will follow his name forever, which is a point House Speaker nancy pelosi hit home multiple times in her press Conference Today on december 18th, the house of representatives impeached the president of the United States an impeachment that will last forever. And yes, it is a fact, when someone is impeached, they are always impeached it cannot be erased. Check. I think the debates the debates actually the debates give you that opportunity, because they see you interact with other candidates and the third thing is that you can win because that is the one thing that unites our party more than any and i the case that i have been making is that a lot of people are talking about it. But when you look at my record, they say, women often run on their record and men run on their potential. Seth uhhuh. And in my case, i have won every, single race, every time, in all of those trump counties, that we need to win, bringing in rural, suburban, and in fact, my last three republican opponents have all gotten out of politics for good [ cheers and applause and i think, given the guy in the white house, that sounds pretty nice. Seth there was a situation last night i was getting ready to watch the debate at 9 00 here on the east coast. And at around 7 00, 7 30, this Giuliani Lev Parnas news breaks. So this situation obviously youre prepping. The other candidates on stage are prepping youre probably not even aware this is happening. And then in the sort of moments after the debate, the news has to balance both talking about this and talking about that. Is it frustrating to you, how quickly the news cycle moves on from what happens over the course of a fairly substantive discussion of issues that happened on stage last night to pick the president , yes. Seth yeah. And you would like that debate and the moments from the debate to be captured. But this is what its like in the era of donald trump. Day after day after day, things come up. And i think its up to us to make our own case and to not allow everyone to be distracted. And there will be those moments where people are going to focus on this primary. It will happen, its happening right now in the early states. But given that, weve got a really important thing happening right now. And that is the impeachment trial that im going back to tonight. Seth yes so heres another crazy thing you have to balance, which is running for president , while at the same time, being a senator, while at the same time being a juror, in this trial, thats basically going to take place. This new information was about Marie Yovanovitch. Yes seth who was a former ambassador to ukraine. You actually you know her this is yes, quite well seth what year is this trip . Okay, this was right after donald trump got elected and that is senator mccain, who i miss very much, who was a good friend and senator graham and then, Marie Yovanovitch, and the ambassador, and me you notice my outfit i thought i would try to fit in camouflage seth yeah. [ laughter ] right. We were actually on the front line and thats the former president. We were on the front line and ambassador yovanovitch i know was this lovely, lovely host and senator mccain respected her so much. And so, when i saw her testify and saw the things the president was saying about her, much less the latest news we have now, where theres people literally trying to, at the very least, surveil on her seth yeah. And spy on her and who knows what else. To me, its a travesty this is a career Public Servant who has done nothing but sacrifice for our country. And so i hope we remember thats what this is about its about our country, people that have put their lives on the line, whether in the military or the diplomatic corps and we need a president that puts our Country First seth yeah. That doesnt put their private interests or their partisan interests in front of the interests of our country seth you [ cheers and applause all that i agree with. I think the real question is, you know, its been its been basically a month since the article since the president was impeached. And there was some talk about the hesitation, actually, to send it to the senate. And in those 30 days, as with every 30 days of the trump presidency, so much more information has come out now, were going into the trial with the yovanovitch information. Do you think that will move or convince or change the minds of any of your colleagues across the aisle . I hope so all were asking for is four witnesses. Richard nixon allowed all of the president s men to testify were simply asking for people who have firsthand knowledge john bolton, who actually has said he wants to testify mick mulvaney, who is the president s acting chief of staff whos the one that made the front line decision to hold up the aid to this fledgling democracy. And then two others, one of whom has sent these smoking gun emails. It is crazy that they wont allow them to testify. And as i said last night at the debate, if theyre not going to allow these witnesses that the president claims exonerates him, they may as well give him a scepter and a crown and let him be the king. And last time i checked, in america, the president is not king the law is king. Seth yes, usually [ cheers and applause i want to ask one last question which is something that the president would maybe argue he has in common with you, which is a background in construction you know, hes very proud of being a builder. But hes, you know, one of those guys who i think wears a suit and puts on a hard hat, stops by, says how you doing, and goes home. You actually worked construction i did seth what part of your life was your construction job . That was while i was in college. Seth uhhuh. And i needed some extra money. And i actually, i didnt hold signs, which is kind of traditional role no i had an eightpound maul. Seth okay. And i pounded stakes for to for surveillance surveying for a highway. Seth got you and i did this an entire summer and i felt that i had to catch up with some of my college classmates and so every lunchtime, i would read a Book Building your vocabulary in 30 days. Seth wow so i kind of did both things at once. That is a true story but i have had a lot of jobs i was Bakers Square pie shop. I was a waitress there for many years. My first job was a car hop at a w where back then, they made us wear a very tight tshirt that said take home a jug of fun. Seth oh, my gosh yeah.
