If youre on the way out of the door, expect mid40s but well get sunshine today before more clouds come back to the bay area tonight. And, mike, european seeing clouds and crowds in the east bay. That is right. From Oakland Coliseum heading north toward downtown oakland from emeryville down toward the same area. We couldnt see oakland through the clouds but at the berkeley curve slowing and the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. No major concern but build for the upper east shore. Slowing through rodeo and san pablo. This crash on the shoulder highway 24 doesnt cause a problem and outside of the caldecott, the rest of the bay just starting to build. Back to you. If you ride b. Will send out a new team of 12 Police Officers to patrol the system. This is to increase the Police Presence and of course try to reduce crime on the transit system. Past friday the new officers road the trains with el alvarez and the chief tells us the officers will be dedicated to walking the train and platform and work in airs on nights and weekends. So not something youll notice on your morning commute. Alvarez is also looking at having an officer placed in stations where they have a high number of calls for service. [ inaudible question ]. The ambassadors will focus patrols on the most heavily traveled section of the system which is the transbay corridor between the 12th street oakland and civic certainty station and that being San Francisco. That event begins at 4 15 and will be streamed live online. 6 0 now and a lot of questions in hayward after a man was shot and killed in a neighborhood over the weekend. Friends of that victim say he was in the neighborhood for a party at a home listed on airbnb. We asked them to confirm it was rented out at the time but didnt hear back. People who knew the victim and the neighborhood seemed equally shocked. He was really feis and h r and had a big heart. And he was goofy and caring. He just really wanted to live his life. It was messed up. Im pretty shocked and surprised by it. It is a really quiet neighborhood. Sometimes there is parties on the street, but it is all family. Our night crew was there as a tow truck picked up a car with visible damage. That may or may not be connected to that shooting. Authorities so far not identifying the man who died. Developing now, the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office is investigating how a badge and loaded gun were found in a vacation rental. The items were left behind in a home in south lake tahoe. They were discovered by a family staying at the home on friday night. The Sheriffs Office doesnt think the gun and badge were stolen but an internal investigation is underway. Sonoma county is using the year 2020 to focus on disaster preparedness. The north bay has seen far more than most places when it comes to recent disasters. Over the next two months the department of Emergency Management is holing Community Meetings in several locations starting tonight with petaluma including windsor and cloverdale. Very light snow, about one to five inches across the sierra. So our snow pack is decreasing because of a lack of significant storms. Right now the northern sierra is at about 71 . Around lake tahoe at 79 of of normal and the southern parts of the sierra at about 90 of normal. With the statewide average of about 78 . Well, the good news is that we do have some big snow headed our way. Another two to three feet possible as we go throughout the week. So that would really hopefully catch us back up to normal in terms of how much snow we should be seeing at this point in the year. In the bay area, were going to see temperatures today reaching into the mid50s. A little bit of a clabs chance to dry out before more wet weather tonight so well talk about that in a few minutes. You could see that the little glisten of sheen on the roadway that we could see from the wet conditions that we had and now temperatures are are starting to drop in the north bay. Now that the system is moved on, were at 38 degrees in napa. 35 in santa rosa. San francisco at 47. And it is now 41 degrees in half moon bay. Well as you get the kids up and ready for school this morning, you might pack a lunch right thousand. It is going to be in the mid40s to start out for the next couple of hours on the way in the south bay and then well see a mix of sun and clouds. And still some Cool Temperatures but this is about normal for early january. As we reach up to about 57 degrees in san jose. 55 in antioch. And napa up to about 54 with San Francisco also reaching 54. Another storm system approaching during the overnight hours and it is also going to be another weak one. As it moves in well see if quickly racing in from the north. And then bringing us some scattered showers. And this is the way it looks throughout the day. Were dry up until about 7 00. That rain moving into parts of north bay. Then as we go into tonight well see spotty rain moving into the rest of the bay area. By sunrise well see this clearing out and then tomorrow were looking at another dry day. This will once again bring us about a tenth of an inch of rain or less. A larger storm system set to move in by thursday. This is bringing in heavy rain. And also some very heavy sierra snow. Were going to see this rain pretty much throughout the day on thursday. And then gradually moving out by friday. There will be another weakening storm system moving in on saturday. That is going to be something that could impact some of the weekend plans. But it doesnt look like a big storm system. So as we go into tonight, were going to see up about a tenth of an inch of rain and then as we head toward thursday, that storm system could bring us up to an inch of rain. Maybe even a little bit more in some areas where some of the heavier rain bands set up. It looks like we have rain every other day here. So it is early tomorrow morning. Light rain. Bigger storm system on thursday. Heavy rain on friday, then drying out and saturday also light rain and then drying out again on sunday. Mike, those monday commuters may be in a bit of a fog. What is also drifting away is the backup in the lanes that is off to the left approach, left of the fast track lanes and right of the hov lanes which are very clear. More slowing out of rodeo and san pablo into richmond and at the richmondsan rafael bridge. 24 westbound, the commute direction, an earlier crash in the lanes near wilder. Now that may be off to the shoulder but seeing enough of a distraction to slow through orn through orinda and the caldecott tunnel is clear. See how things are looking out there. Looking a little pit a little bit better and rain during the overnight has moved on and seeing the rain and snow over parts of the sierra. Rear were still left with puddles on the roads, a live look in palo alto as you head out of the door. And temperaturewise, mid40s into mid50s and a mix of sun and clouds and more rain in the toerks. After seeing the high temperatures into the mid50s. Well talk about this in a few minutes. Mike, youre looking for a crash at the bay bridge. We have the fog in the bay bridge camera shot. It is starting to clear up. You could see the overcrossing. Now the lanes from the center, one, two, three four, lane four, one of the cash lanes is where there was a crash reported and i saw all of the lanes clearing for a few minutes. Traffic starting to build up there. I think theyve cleared the crash westbound just before you get into the 880 overcrossing. There is a build through berkeley and emeryville and slowing for 24. No major surprises and well take that for a monday. The clock is ticking for an oakland moms who took over an unpock unoccupied home in oakland. Of course this is the last thing that Wildfire Victims like some here in santa rosa would want to hear. And there are a lot of people who are opposed to this idea put forth by fema. Now here are the details from the San Francisco chronicle. They say that fema said that pg e owes it 4 billion over the reimbursement for the governments response to the wildfires in 2015, 2017 and 2018. The pg e said that the money to pay this back would have to come from the 13. 5 billion the Company Wants to use to settle Wildfire Victim claims so were talking about nearly 30 of the settlement money. Now fema said they have no interest in taking money from Wildfire Victims but want to hold the Utility Company accountable. Now 40 members of congress did send a letter to fema regarding the claims expressing great dismay and concern. But a hearing will take place with with with a bankruptcy judge on this soon. A heads up for drivers in the south bay. Were not going to do that right now. Well talk about the oakland moms who people have just accused of squatting there in a home left vacant in oakland. Theyve been looking for a home to stay in. A judge ordered them to leave within a weeks time. Reporter well, we know the mothers could be removed at any time by the Alameda County Sheriffs Department but all of the folks that gathered in support, it is a quiet gathering because moms want to respect the privacy of those in the neighborhood and considered one of them. Later on this morning theyll have a rally again moms for housing is their organization and they could be evicted at any time after a ruling by a judge. I want to show you the back story. On saturday, wedgewood offered to pay the mothers to move to a Catholic Charity shelter plus assistance for two months. That is after an Alameda County judge ruled on friday that the women had to leave the home because they have no claim of possession. They have no right to be in the home. The first mom moved into the vacant home on november 18th and other moms joined after they say that housing is a basic human right and that company that is offering to move them out, that owns the home, wedgewood is contributing to the housing crisis by doing exactly what is happening here which is buying homes and then sitting on them. Wedgewood wants to have the home rehabbed and provide housing and jobs for the community. But Rebecca Caplan the president of the Oakland City Council said that this is a disingenuous offer, that theyre just isnt a lot of show of that they dont have a lot of faith this would happen. They need homes for that plan to come to fruition. By the time we get to friday, were seeing the sunshine and low 50s in San Francisco. Another quick round of showers early on saturday and then sunny skies ong on sunday. And watching the forecast for the playoff game, the nfc championship game happening this sunday. And it is going to reach into the upper 50s. Were dry on friday and sunday and i think sunday is probably the best day of the weekend. Reaching the upper 50s there. And if youre going to the sierra, the snow will be clearing out. Danger in Southern California skies. Helicopters including one from the lapd hit with a green laser over the weekend. Our sister station telecopter caught one of the incidents on video. After hit with the laser on saturday, officers on the ground approached an Apartment Building where they believed the laser was coming from but unable to figure out who was responsible. The green laser could blooind pilots. It happened to United Airlines flight at sfo back in 2018. 6 47. The president said the iranian general was plotting imminent attacks. And the secretary of defense didnt know about it. Didnt know about it. Mark esper said he was never told about any specific threat and remember, he runs the u. S. Military. Now president said there were specific upcoming threats against americans that caused him to order the drone strike on iranian general qassem soleimani. There is no question, soleimani was an enemy of the United States and had american blood on his hands but mark esper was unsure about the white house claims of a specific threat that had to be stopped. What the president said was he believed that it probably and could have been attacks against additional embassies. I shared that view and other members of the National Security team believed well believed is not the message the white house was looking to give on the sunday morning tv shows. Margaret brennan pressed mark esper on the claims. Remember he is head of all of the u. S. Milt. What was the evidence. He didnt cite a specific piece of evidence. Are you saying there wasnt one. I didnt see one with regard to four embassies but i share the president s view that my expectation was they were going after our embassy. The secretary of defense never saw the evidence. Another thing on everyones mind is impeachment. The president has been impeached but nancy pelosi has been reluctant to get on with it. And then a slow rise in temperatures today as we reach up into the mid50s. You could leave the umbrella at home today but once again coming back in tonight. Well have a more significant storm set to arrive on thursday. This is going to go bring the potential of over an inch of rain and heavy sierra snow. It looks like rain throughout most of the day on thursday and that is going to be the focus of the weather system this week and then another one right behind that on saturday. But that looks weaken as it moves into the bay area. It wont have a big impact as it continues to fizzle out before it gets here. So rain overnight very light. Up to about a tenth of an inch of rain and then toward thursday some much heavier rain moving in with the potential of getting about three quarters of an inch in parts of the south bay, the east bay up to an inch in parts of the north bay. And then looking at sierra snow, this is what we were talking about. Another two to three feet of snow over the next seven days. So it looks pretty good. Going through our forecast, rain in here. Every other day. So our next round of rain coming in early tomorrow morning. And then it dries out on wednesday. Thursday is our heavy rain. Friday is going to be nice and sunny. On friday a judge gave the women five Business Days to vacate and the Property Owners sympathize with the women offering themfree temporary housing but the women called that an insult. A ranch could become a new state park. The n3 ranch is a 51,000 acre property in four counties. It was listed for sale at 72 million.
