They were charged with murder and involuntary manslaughter. Reporter it was an absolutely dramatic day in court when the judge denied bail for the alleged get away driver. At one point, his sister got up and yelled at the judge why no bail but the heartfelt messages for the victim and a sign that reads montclair strong can be seen. People make mistakes all the time. This is one thing my brother would not make. Reporter this is what shakela reid claims he was doing, baby sitting his 3 year old niece. He doesnt deserve that. My brother was not there reporter Oakland Police paint a completely different picture. They say reid was the get away driver for at least one thief who stormed into the starbucks on mountain boulevard monday morning and snatched the laptop of a research engineer. One of the thieves is 21 year old javon eugene lee. He tried to get his laptop back by leaping into the get away car only to be left for dead. They are charged with murder for the death of zhang who happened to be turning 34 that day. Documents show reid was on parole after he served prison time for a Second Degree robbery case. As for the man who police claim snatched the laptop. Lee was charged with involuntary manslaughter. Court documents show lee like reid was also convicted of Second Degree robbery in San Francisco back in 2017. And the next court date is set for monday morning. Also in oakland. Firefighters say theyve had 25 calls in the area just last month, mostly for issues like smoke and fire. We thought it was a bomb. Reporter this neighbor says his car has been broken into. Christie smith, nbc bay area news. Were getting more answers about the deadly shooting in dublin on new years day. Weve learned the identity of the victim, Adrianna Navarro who was shot and killed. Police arrested ricky white in connection with her death. Investigators say it all started when navarro and white forced their way into her exboyfriends home on monaghan street in dublin. Police say white had a gun on him and pointed it at the exboyfriend. Thats when the exboyfriend took out his own gun and shot at the kill, killing navarro and injuring white. So far, police say its a case of selfdefense and the exboyfriend will not face any charges. More information on the highspeed chase in the north bay that cost a man his life yesterday. The man has been identified as matthew tasly, 59 years old. The chase started in san rafael when they spotted paisley with a tire iron. He jumped in his car and took off. Officers chased him where he ran a red light that triggered a crash that killed him. Finally, some good news for a man who had his camper van stolen twice in San Francisco. He got it back. We reported yesterday he had been parking his van on the street but about two months ago someone stole the van. Police found it a few days later, but then the van was stolen again. He says social media and News Coverage helped recover the van this time. I was hopeful. I didnt think social media would help. That was really surprising how well that worked and that, you know, just through getting a post out there with some pictures on facebook, someone was able to notice it and reach out to me and get me to it. Reporter stop waste in oakland is a Public Agency that works with the cities in Alameda County to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill. The agency is currently trying to figure out how interested city leaders are in replacing plastic serve wear with real plates, cups and cutlery for customers who dine in at restaurant once we identify it is a priority, it is our job to come up with an ordinance to consider. Even if you have, you know, like youre saying, even if you have the waste from doing the washing the dishes and stuff like that, its got to be better than all the manufacturing of all the plastic.
