Tonight, shes concerned about her nephew who is in critical condition. He was also in that car accident. Shes also concerned about her two surviving sons and how they will cope with the tremendous loss. Theres a huge void, huge. Its like pieces of the puzzle. Things are not whole. Reporter anna is missing two of her four sons. Her twin 16yearold boys were killed christmas night, in a car crash in pleasanton. She says the boys went out to help a friend. Michael was whispering, come on, mom. Some of my friends are having a tough Christmas Day. Reporter she didnt expect her boys, their cousin and friend to go far. When they didnt return or call at curfew, her sister tracked jareds phone to foothill road in pleasanton. Feeling like something was wrong, they went and found the deadly accident scene. Of course, immediately, i was, like, somethings not right. And the coroners van shows up. They say jareds here. Grateful for that. And my boys are gone. Reporter her nephew and Dublin High School student survived but are hospitalized. Reynoso believes they were doing what they loved when they died, helping friends and each other. That night, it was helping one another practice for a drivers licenses test. If theyre trying to get their license and theyre helping each other to get their goal. Reporter tonight, reynoso says there is no one to blame for this terrible accident. She says, she is grateful for the tremendous outpouring of community support. Today, focusing on the New California law, allowing child care workers to unionize. Advocates say it will help improve pay and working conditions. We need strong unions. Reporter warren talked about companies, including those in silicon valley, need to pay their fair share of taxes and how the 2 cent wealth tax would boost education. Title i school, funding would wraud ru quadruple. And every school would be eligible to lift up that public school. Reporter warren left the bay area and trails joe biden and Bernie Sanders in national and california primary polls. In washington, d. C. , the Senate Impeachment trial is at a standstill. And President Trump continues to lash out at democrats. Congress is on a break until next week. But lawmakers are weighing in on how the impeachment trial should go. Nancy pelosi hasnt sent the articles of impeachment to the senate. She hopes that holding off will make the senate call witnesses to the trial. Trump called out the House Speaker on twilter, saying she is using stall tactics and calls the impeachment a hoax. Democrats say they want to hear from white house witnesses who the president blocked in the committee. The majorityrun senate is hinting they will acquit the president. Speaking of the Christmas Day storm, a major artery in Southern California is back open, after snowfall yesterday. Drivers can once again get through the grapevine. Chp started leading cars on the 40mile stretch of the grape vip, including cajon pass. Were learning more about the tourist helicopter that went down on hawaii. Searchers found bodies of six of seven people onboard. They believe two of the passengers were children. The helicopter was due back yesterday evening after a tour of the island but never returned. Authorities have not released the victims names. A dangerous scene in oakland, after a fire ripped through a warehouse today. A similar scene to the ghostship fire. But People Living in that warehouse were not supposed to be there. Reporter a new fence encircles the warehouse. This is the citys latest effort to keep people out of this property, after an overnight fire left eight people with no roof over their heads. It was a solid wall of flames coming up and curling out to where she was. Reporter michael got out. He described the space where a pregnant woman was staying. She got out with minor injuries. The Fire Department red tagged this property and cleared out 20 people. This place has been a recuring problem. On more than one occasion, the city boarded up the building. People came by and pulled off the boards and snuck back inside. Reporter but neighbors are not happy with the citys efforts. After our interview, dan cobber to down a poster that blamed the fire on him, the Fire Department and the police. The Fire Department and the Police Department do not need to be assaulted like that. Reporter neighbors confronted them with their frustrations. It was squatting. It was drug activity. It was junk. It was Public Health issues. There were all kinds of things wrong with this warehouse. An assault at a day spa. Palo alto Police Arrested a man for sex crimes during a massage. They say he sexually assaulted a woman at body beats day spa. During a massage, he touched her inappropriate. The spa fired him after the woman reported it to police. Investigators think he may have assaulted other clients, as well. We have a bit more perspective tonight about how b. A. R. T. Police are enforcing no eating policy on platforms and trains. You probably remember the man who was cited for eating a sandwich in november. Steve concord was furious when the act of eating breakfast landed him in handcuffs. We asked a records request to find out how often it happens. It turns out, b. A. R. T. s own records show, they have cited 44 people were breaking the no eating or drinking rule. Thats less than one per month. This is the little boy who came into the world last night in vallej vallejo. The boys mother said she was having back pains. She was going into labor, about a month early. They frantically called 911. Susan hart was the dispatcher who answered the call. She had to calm down the family and prepare them for delivery. Great grandmother says hart was the calm during the storm. Im telling her on the phone, im saying, the baby is here. The baby is here. Oh, my gosh. Theyre on their way. And i could hear the sirens in the background. Good job. The family delivered the little boy, who is less than five pounds. He and his mother are doing fine. A woman found help at an unlikely place, at a mcdonalds in lodi. It happened at a mcdonalds on Christmas Eve. The unidentified woman went to the counter and asked employees to hide her and call 911. The boyfriend made her go through the drivethrough instead. The woman in the drivers seat at the window. She mouthed to the employees to help her. And they quickly jumped into action. Informed everyone else, down in the drive through line. And we held up two cars in front of that car. Good job. That delay gave time for deputies to get there and arrest the boyfriend. Inside the trunk, they found a stolen loaded gun and found he had been violent with her in the past. Theres no telling what could have happened to the woman if the employees did not get involved. The employees are trained to help Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking victims. Now, to the trash that was an eightcar pileup, including semi trucks. That is close. This is highway 84 in Lubbock County in northern texas. Police were there investigating a crash when this semi truck you see here, jackknifed and hit the cars. The dense fog didnt help matters. This is one of five crashes that happened in that area. The pileup included four semi tractortrailers and four smaller cars. Only a state trooper and a driver are hurt. And both are expected to survive. Longtime radio personality and tv host, don imus, died today. He was known as one of the pioneers of shock jock radio. He had a show that msnbc started to broadcast in 1996. He was known for his cowboy hat and controversial antics. He lost his job after making racially insensitive remarks about the rutgers womans basketball team. He retired in 2018. He was hospitalized since Christmas Eve. He was 79 years old. Or at least solar panels. Any new houses built in california after january 1st, will, by law, have solar panels on top. That means about 80,000 new homes here will be powered by the sun. They come into a house, they have solar already installed. Saves them electricity costs from day one. Reporter the ceo of fremontbased solaria, says for solar companies, the new rule is good for the environment and good for the local economy. We have dozens of installers that install the panels. They have more and more opportunities to install the panels in the new Home Construction projects they didnt before. Reporter with new Technology Comes new costs. And Home Builders know it. People who are buying new construction are, like, now it will cost me an extra 20,000 or whatever it will cost. The builders wont foot the bill for that. Reporter that means after a decade of rising prices, California Home buyers will have to shell out more in the name of sustainable energy. Santa rosa, napa, towards fair field and livermore and morgan hill. Even san jose could be looking at low to mid30s and more patchy frost as we start the weekend. Highs tomorrow will be close to today. Maybe not as warm because lateday, well see clouds coming in ahead of our storm. Of the two weekend days, tomorrow is a good travel day, as things are dry for saturday. Not so much on sunday. The trend here, as we have the system dropping down the coast. It looks a lot like the system we saw for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Maybe not as strong. But a lot of similarities to it in terms of projected rainfall. One thing were starting to see now is an earlier arrival. By sunday morning, starting to see light rain across the bay area. Heavier showers possible from noon to 4 00. And theres a chance some of these, especially near the coast, may involve some brief thunder and small hail. Thats something we saw on christmas morning. Could see another taste of that for sunday afternoon. By sunday night, we begin to see the heavier showers in the south. Into monday, well begin to see most of the activity shift towards Southern California. So, as you look at rainfall projections, these keep going up from model run to model run. Most of the bay area, a quarter inch to more in the north bay hills. Thats falling during the day on sunday. For the sierra, five to seven inches of snow. For the tahoe report, perfect skiing up there. Good travel day tomorrow, at squaw valley and alpine meadows. Notice the snowshowers on sunday. Cool temperatures and clearing skies into monday, as the storm dies into Southern California. We may see the grapevine and other highways in Southern California, getting closed down early next week. Its going long stretches without eating. A new study says it may have Hidden Health benefits that go beyond weight loss. The study in the new england journal of medicine says it can help high cholesterol and blood pressure. It looked at two types of fasting. Eating only a six to eighthour window. And then, cutting back to 500 calories. That forces your body to switch between burning and storing fat like humans did in ancient times. Intermittent fasting helps the cells to cope with stress. Our bodies and function, well optimally in the fasted state. The fasting can increase memory, cognition and resistance to disease. A lot of Christmas Trees are probably still up around the bay area. In San Francisco, an annual tradition to get rid of them is under way. City leaders and the recycling company were in front of city hall for the 33rd annual chipping of the trees. It takes the trees and turns them into mulch. The collection days will be between january 2nd and january 15th. Its for San Francisco residents only, by the way.
