New developments overnight, an arrest warrant now out for the man wanted in connection to the stabbing death of a younger brother of 49ers backup quarterback c. J. Beathard. 22yearold Clayton Beathard was killed after a fight outside a nashville bar over the weekend. This is michael mosley. Investigators say he got into an argument over a woman with a group of people and thats what they believe led to the deadly stabbing. Beathard and a friend was stabbed to death, a third was injured. We are focusing on mosley, the investigation is showing that he was the person who had a sharp object during the fight, and we fully believe that he is the person who inflicted the stab wounds. Police say mosley does have a violent criminal history. Now to a followup, today we are expecting to learn whats next for the man aus coccused o killing a woman at a b. A. R. T. Station. John lee cowell stabbed nia wilson to death at the macarthur b. A. R. T. Station. A judge will decide if cowell will stand trial january 6th as scheduled for declare cowell mentally incompetent. The women who call themselves moms for housing say theyre staying put inside an empty oakland home and this morning they will speak out. You may remember last month when the women moved into a house without permission. They say they were protesting the homelessness crisis in the bay area. This morning, they will respond to a letter they received from a notforprofit group called shelter 37. It claims the moms are preventing a needy family from moving into that home and theyre taking jobs away from atrisk youth. Shelter 37, a Los Angelesbased notforprofit group says it signed a contract with wedgewood, the owner of that home. The group says it wants to help atrisk youth and firsttime home buyers live in those types of homes. With the home being taken, when we were in the process of negotiating our contract has put us in a pickle. Moms for housing has been given an eviction notice. They filed a right to possession claim delaying their eviction by 15 days. A hearing is scheduled for december 30th. It is 5 06. It is also full swing ahead today and tomorrow for local charities trying to help bay area people in need. The foundation on ellis street in San Francisco says it will serve over 3,000 pounds of prime rib today for those less fortunate. The holiday luncheon will happen today at the church from 10 30 in the morning to 1 30 in the afternoon. Among those attending, San Francisco mayor london breed. The festivities at the church will continue tomorrow with a Christmas Celebration and a meal. Its one of the biggest holiday traditions in the bay area and the long lines are about to begin. A separate proposal would have given drivers more rest breaks but that was rejected. I know a lot of people are going to be traveling, so here is a look at sfo, as of now its all clear, no fog there, and hopefully all of those flights will be on time today. But we are seeing some problems in parts of the north bay, where visibility is down to a quarter of a mile. We also have about a half mile visibility in napa and then you have dense fog and below freezing temperatures, all of that moisture in the air can deposit on some of the bridges and overpasses and make it icy as you drive out this morning, so watch out for some freezing fog in parts of the north bay. Also temperatures are above freezing in livermore its still pretty cold, 37 degrees and 41 in palo alto. In San Francisco right now 45 degrees, and were heading up to about 53 today for some of our warmer spots, its only going to reach about 45 today in clearlake and 43 in san jose, and then tonight for the lighting of the menorah once again its in the low 50s. Mostly cloudy skies and the rain does hold off until later on this evening. If you want to head out to christmas in the park its looking good. Wear the layers because being out there with the breezy wind, cloudy skies and some low 50s its going to start to get to you after a while. Were going to see some mostly cloudy skies throughout today, as we get ready for this rain, look at the time line, were at 11 30 tonight before we start to see that rain reaching from the coast to the inland areas, and it looks like for some of our bay area peaks well start out tomorrow morning with some snow on mt. Hamilton, as well as some of our north bay peaks, mt. St. Helena. Well see up to a quarter to half inch of rain, in the sierra looking good, only 20 degrees. Thats a live view of squaw valley. Well see additional light snow going into the next couple of days throughout the weekend, only looking at four to five inches of snow but that may be enough to make those roads really slippery, and then we dry out for a few more days, watching another slight chance of rain on sunday. Look at this beautiful shot we have the lights over there in the city and we have the lights across the span as well. I like the smoothly moving lights here. I do want to show you one thing, this is the north bay, where it looks just fine on the live camera in san rafael but from time to time we see low clouds drifting through and fog reported up there around novato a crash for highway 101 and the note chp is giving, not up for novato but the carquinez bridge there may be patchy fog drifting through the area and you see how that could happen coming across the same area. Be careful if youre headed to or from i80 across the carquinez bridge, or the zamper bridge depending on the direction. The rest of the bay moves smoothly. Contra costa county no delays. Peninsula crash highway 35 but it moves smoothly on the sensors. A new crash may have just shown up in fremont. Its right around Mission South of our camera here. We see the light traffic and the map scholes the sensors at the limit. Have you seen this, a pair of thieves is on the run after stealing thousands of dollars from a church. They were walking out. It was all money designated to buy gifts for kids this holiday season. Reporter it is an awful time for this to have happened but all caught on tape and police are hoping somebody will recognize something about this brazen duo that not only stole from a church but did so in broad daylight. This happened sales afternoon here at our lady of Guadalupe Church in san jose after a baptismal service. It appears to be a man and woman take the collection box out the door with about 3,000. Its very sad. Im very upset about it. This is a hardworking community. This not a wealthy community and so people make a lot of sacrifices to buy the gifts for the children. Reporter every year on january 6th the church celebrates the day the wise men visited jesus, when they give out hundreds of gifts to local children, but of course now that money is gone. The church is accepting donations, hoping to make up for the stolen cash, and the clock is ticking. They dont have much time. The giveaway is in two weeks. We have new details now on a hitandrun crash in san mateo that left a pedestrian seriously hurt. 18yearold Nathan Ferris in police custody. Investigators say he was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol sunday night when he struck the pedestrian and parked cars. Witnesses say feris and several young people took off running from the car. Ferris was arrested a short time later at his home in san mateo. As for that pedestrian, they were flown to a hospital, they are expected to survive. It is 5 34 right now. New this morning, more nurses headed for the picket line in the bay area. 3,000 are calling for a strike over contract negotiations. Late yesterday they voted to authorize a walkout. The nurses work for Santa Clara ValleyMedical Center and Oconnor Hospital in san jose as well as Saint Louise Regional Hospital in gilroy. The Vice President of their union mike bennepaio says staffing is a big issue saying when a new nurse comes in theyre actually paid so low after 6 to 12 months, they leave, so we continuously have new nurses coming through our system. In the meantime, county Officials Say there is a new Contract Offer on the table. The union will discuss that offer with county leaders next month and if there is a strike, it would be after that and a tenday notice will be given. Californias population is seeing its slowest growth in more than a century. According to new state data, as we have been reporting, more people are moving out than moving in. Department of finance data shows that the state lost nearly 40,000 people from july of 2018 to july of this year. L. A. And butte counties lost nearly 10,000 residents each. In butte county, housing became a major challenge after the camp fire. A lot of californians are moving in to nevada. Californias population now stands at 39. 9 million. Its still the most populated state by far. Palo altos traffic light project is getting a green light from drivers. Last may, palo alto and cal trans synchronized 19 traffic lights from middlefield road to the dumbarton bridge. The project updated the minimum times of the traffic lights so that cars have enough time to clear the intersections. Transportation leaders then tested to see how well the project was doing. The results . Traffic sped up by 28 and travel time decreased by 13 . This morning we are talking christmas tamales. Ladies, they tripled the staff from our hit at 5 00 a. M. This morning. Ladies are stirring the cornmeal in the back, they put on the cornhusk and pork or chilly or meat or steak, steam their tamales. Takes about two hours for them to be ready but yeah theyre going to serve about 10,000 tamales today alone. Thats why this all night operation into the Early Morning hours, they got pork here. They got chicken, sweet tamales and jalapeno tamales as well if you like the spicy kind. They have been doing this for a long time. They say they want to take you back to grandmas kitchen and really smells that way. You can eat them for dinner of course, for lunch, also for breakfast, you unwrap your tamales and put a fried egg or egg overeasy on top of it. Its perfect for that. The doors open here at 7 00. By 7 30 you can expect these lines to be long because people order four, five or six dozen at a time because that is their Christmas Eve feast. Video of a sideshow in detroit posted to social media, much like bay area demonstrations, people are standing really dangerously close to those cars. So far there have been no arrests. Detroit police say sideshows have been on the rise over the past few months. They blame a growing number of social media pages. They like that attention. President Trumps Administration is awarding billions of dollars in contracts to private companies to operate Immigration Detention Centers in california. The move comes less than two weeks before a new state law goes into effect. The contracts in san diego colexico, adalanto and bakersfield allow for housing of about 4,000 detainees with capacity to expand in the future. I. C. E. Says the contracts are not subject to the new state law. The new year just around the corner and with it comes new laws, including some addressing wildfire concerns. First a law requires utilities like pg e to reduce impact of planned power shutoffs to First Responders and people with disabilities. What does that mean . Well, theres so much humidity in the air, temperatures below freezing, you get ice depositing on the bridges and overpasses and that can make the roads slippery. You cant see it as youre driving. If youre about to head out this morning youll be going to work or going out shopping, just a heads up about that, that you do need to slow down as you cross over bridges and overpasses. This is a look in dublin and look at the stores right there, so its going to be busy there today. If youre going out shopping in napa today, expect some upper 30s. You still need to bundle up throughout much of the day, low 50s even for the afternoon. Continuing coverage of the breaking news that weve first brought you yesterday morning. The search continues this morning for a suspect in that robbery that turned deadly in Contra Costa County. You can see the robber hit a bay point store clerk in the head with a pistol, and grabbed cash. This happened late sunday night. We told but it yesterday morning, while all of this was happening a second robber was holding up another employee. Even though the clerk was bleeding from his head he grabbed a loaded gun from the underneath drawer and shoot that robber. Here is the clerk. Not only for myself but my coworker, i didnt know where he was. Instinct took over. That clerk is a former air force veteran. Sheriffs deputies say the clerk acted in selfdefense. The suspect who was shot died from his injuries not far from the stores front door. A house fire taking the life of a San Francisco man just before the holidays. His house went up in flames yesterday afternoon, at 15th and cabrio. The victim was taken to st. Marys hospital where sadly he died. At least three other people are being helped by the red cross to find somewhere else to live. One firefighter was hurt battling the flames. So far theres no cause of that fire. This morning a Contra Costa County barber has a message of forgiveness after he nearly lost his life. Brian martin was seriously injured after a mother rammed her car into him in antioch because she didnt like the haircut he gave her son. Martin broke his leg and has deep gashes still in his hand, but he says hes not angry. I have truly, truly forgiven her. I could walk up to her, i could hug her, and i could say to her, im so sorry that this happened. As for the mom who hit him, she faces attempted murder charges, hitandrun, and child abuse charges. New video shows the storm damage left behind in los angeles. There were several downed trees and at least one damaged building. A man was trapped for 30 minutes under a massive tree if it toppled down into the roof of an apartment building.
