These crews have been patiently waiting for the start of the season which has seen a few challenges. Theres been a flurry of activity at Fishermans Wharf all day as crews headed out. The main reason for the delay has been an extended feeding season for whales along the pacific coast. Crabbing crews were concerned the whales might get entangled in their equipment, which would lead to a cancellation of the whole season. So they decided to delay the season and state officials agreed. The delay will continue north of the mendocino Sonoma County line all the way up to canada. Several crews shifted down here to the bay area to participate in tomorrow mornings launch. The delay means theres plenty of demand and crews are hoping for a good haul.
