We begin with a late night decision by governor gavin newsom, turned down pg es reorganization plan, this was a 13 billion deal that needed approval by the governor, and his rejection now forces pg e to go back to the drawing board. Heres what it means. Pg e had offered a 13. 5 billion settlement for victims of the north bay hub fire. Butte countys campfire. And the 2015 ghostship warehouse fire in oakland. Pg e says the plan would have allowed the company to pay the victims and meet all of the requirements of ab1054, the new state bill, regulating public utilities. Well, in a letter to pg es ceo bill johnson, Governor Newsom said that the plan did not focus on providing safe and reliable power. His decision is a major setback for pg e, as it races to meet a june deadline to get out of bankruptcy. In a statement, pg e replied in part, looking ahead, we are committed to getting victims paid, continuing to implement changes across our business to improve our operations for the long term, and emerging from chapter 11 as a financially sound utility. We spoke last night with state senator gary hill. He said the governor made the right decision. It is the same old pg e. And we will not stand for that. He recognizes the problem. He recognizes that if we do not see the change that is necessary for pg e, through this bankruptcy, we will one, be back into bankruptcy again, in the next five to ten years, and two, we will not have a safe utility. Well, in addition to safety, senator gary hill said the best outcome would be for pg e t make victims whole and protect rate payers moving forward. Reporter i return to this high school every december because the event they hold there each year is everything the bay area proud series is about. Compassion. Helping others. And more often than no, tears. Theres a deadline on there but this year, i want to do everything before the deadline so were not behind on anything. It is an Early Morning in october. I just want to let them though. And this student has a very big student ahead of her. Im a little nervous. But i think it will go fine. I think it is like a backup. Onlisha, she is in charge of the december winter wishes rally. This, the ninth year of an event many call their favorite day of the entire school year. I think it raises the spirits of our whole school and how they can overcome any obstacle they face. We will go ahead and get started. It begins with every student, teacher, and staff member at branham being asked to make a wish. Big or small. For themselves. Or for someone else. This one is to help pay for surgery for their dog. Appreciate their mom, because after their dad passed away there year more than 700 wishes were made. I think one reading, it was really crazy that they come to school every day, with painful or emotional stories that they have to carry. And then we have 200 to the dress place. The most needed, most meaningful wishes, are handed out to Student Leadership teams who set out to raise the money to make those wishes come true. In front of the entire school. Thank you, mom. Branhams winter wishes rally, is a tearfilled hour, of everything that is right with the world. There is the wish of recognition. For a cheer leader who overcomes her challenges, to lift classmates spirits every day. There is the wish of acceptance. For one brave enough to stand in front of her peers and share her story. I will never forget the day calling my mother and saying hey, mom. There is the wish of support. For a friend. Who rarely sees her mother, living on the other side of the country. Now, ive always felt like winter wishes is deserved more than just a single story in the newscast and this year im very excited to announce, we will do an entire half hour special, on the winter wishes program, at branham high school. How it got started, what goes into every rally, and of course, lots of wishes. It is going to be december 25th, that is christmas day, at 6 30 in the evening, a half hour all on winter wishes. I hope you can join us then. And you might want to bring some tissues with you. Garvin thomas, nbc bay area news. I am setting my dvr, garvin. Thanks for that. It is 7 26. I personally decided only the kids in my life are getting gifts. All the nieces and nephews. All the adults, im sorry, we can hang out and have a good time. Right now in downtown san jose, it is so much money, blowing so much money. So much money. And 51 degrees. We will be seeing more rain but here is a look at the satellite radar, weve got the cloud cover, and majority from the San Francisco area, down through monterey, and then down into 4 00, 5 00, we have a line of rain into santa rosa and napa and ukiah, and the showers move in, and it wont be a rainy day. And it is still pretty nice, where you can go out and enjoy the day, out and about, and as we head into the evening, dinnertime, maybe jacket, definitely bring an umbrella if you dont want to miss up your showers, because the showers will be moving in, light but maybe just to have a little frizz for the hair. Thats why i wear hats when im not at work so i dont have to care about my hair. During the winter season. Yes. We will see you in about 15 minutes, vianey, thanks. And you look at the time bar right up here, saturday, 5 00, santa rosa will be the first to see some of the showers into tonight. And notice though it is not very organized. So it is kind of all over the place, which means not everybody is going to expect to see heavy rain and then if i push this time line forward, it kind of breaks apart here through oakland and San Francisco and light rain expected through there and a better possibility of seeing some showers down through san jose, the south bay, and the santa cruz mountains, 6 00, 7 00. By sunday morning, obviously, look what happens. The showers start to decrease. Very light chance of seeing that rain. Mainly a lot of cloud cover. Now, for all of our viewers who will be traveling to the sierra this weekend, maybe youre heading out today or tomorrow. There is a Winter Weather advisory in place. Through 10 00 a. M. Today. If youre out there tomorrow, and you see me out at the game, kickoff at 1 25, a few clouds here and there, and by half time, mostly clear, and then by the end of the game, things will be cooling off, rather quickly, so if youre like me and anything below 60 seems a little chilly, definitely bring a coat. The final home game for the raiders tomorrow, also the rain decided to just kind of make its exit right before the game which is great news. A few clouds that kick off at 1 05 and half time, Cool Temperatures, and patchy low clouds by the end of the game. Over the next search days, we have a couple of changes, it will cool and cool out by tomorrow. A cold start by monday. Remember, i talked about the temperatures dipping quickly tomorrow night. A wall thousands of students passed over six decades. A few years ago, facilities manager Heather Hickman holland notice the something others had missed. I put up my phone and turned on the light, and realized that it was the profile of heads. Some research in the Schools Library rece library, revealed a series of frescos were painted on the walls in the 30s and painted over, and one by the noted teacher, and artist and the school got permission to uncover tiny patches to see what was there. You can see the skyscrapers. With a hint of what lies below, the school recently got another grant to remove the paint. And thats when the plain white wall became a portal to the past. Down here about 12 or so layers of paint. Architectural conservative Molly Lambert and her team peeled away the forgotten decades to reveal the mural below. I am amazed how much imagery they put into these and the the skill. The fresco was painted in the new deal era when arts celebrated people on the job. It is an image depicting workers in a marble factory. Look at this guy. He has a cigarette that says chesterfield on it. And you really get to see all of the details. The brush strokes. That theyre not of the, all of the shading and tones. It turns out the inspiration for this industrial fresco came from nearby, the now tourist fishermans whatever, this restaurant was once the marble factory where that scene took place. When San Francisco really was a working class city, people cutting marble, right here nor where youre buying your powerball, and it is happening in a time in the city when were talking about other murals being painted over, and it is an interesting time to be uncovering something from the past. There are several more murals in the basement that will also soon be uncovered. Plain white walls, revealing a link to a colorful past. Joe rosato jr. , nbc bay area news. Its a beauty.
