But today parents and teachers are raining praise on the school board for allocating millions of dollars in construction money. Though not without a little cloud of impatience. Kris sanchez joins us live where parents and staff are asking why it took so long. Kris . Reporter hi there, laura. The school is about 60 years old and a lot of parents and teachers say it is showing every bit of its age especially over the past thanksgiving holiday. Take a look at pictures. This is what happened during that powerful round of rain and wind. The roof leaked so badly that three classrooms and a multipurpose space had to be relocated on campus and boy did the school board get an earful about that at the meeting last night. A 33 million allotment was already on the agenda but the recent storm damage seemed to really put a punctuation mark on the conversation. My son is in fifth grade there and they had to shut down a whole wing of the school because of storm damage but that area has always been kind of falling apart. When you have water coming into classrooms, it certainly exemplifies the challenges the school is facing. It is necessary, it is time. The school is the same as when i went here. Reporter i want you to take a peek at that flashing sign a message that says thank you to the Dublin Unified School board and above that we saw Maintenance Worker as dressing the roof damage today. They found throughout sacramento in large part the dmv met that goal in the area but in the bay area and los angeles, wait times still hovered around 20 minutes and at times 58 in the l. A. Area. Sierra getting a lot of snow. Both on i80 and highway 50. Weve seen near whiteout conditions around lake tahoe. Caltrans said anyone driving farther than auburn needs to have tire chains. Over the last seven days some areas have seen seven feet of snow. Kirkwood was the Higher Elevation getting that. And it is just so beautiful. I wanted to start out with that and dip into a couple of our cameras in the sierra and show you what it looks like as the skies clear. That is a look at squaw valley. It is so gorgeous. Lets go toward heavenly where you see people out there already skiing and enjoying the fresh powder on the ground. Now as we bring it back home here is a live look outside from our oakland camera and were seeing all clear skies here but we know that we just had some showers pass through the south bay. So looking back at how much rain we are now and where we currently stand, santa rosa benefits from the storm system and now at 95 of average for the water year measuring close to seven inches of rain. Now elsewhere we are still lacking quite a bit with san jose at about 47 of normal and livermore just about half and only at 40 for oakland, San Francisco at 43 of normal. So it seems like that storm system said oh, you didnt get enough rain south of santa rosa. Let me come back and that is what were seeing right now as this system that is part of the Atmospheric River rising back to the south bay. And that is the reason why were seeing that line of rain now coming in. On storm ranger we could see the showers now moving through san jose and milpitas. And even down to street level where we see exactly where it is raining. Cupertino, sunnyvale toward santa clara seeing the rain coming down and then toward the fjc, there on the map, north of there on highway 101. And then we head over toward milpitas and see the heavy rain now coming down on grand boulevard and just to the north of mcarthur lane and that is moving toward the north and east most likely heading toward fremont in the next few minutes. And so there is still a chance of rain in the forecast for today. But we will see some more breaks compared to yesterday and the past few days. Our next round of heavy rain all part of that system that is also producing some scattered showers now, starting to move back in before sunrise tomorrow morning. Were mostly going to see this rain during the early hours before it it tapers off tomorrow afternoon. Now well have a bigger storm system headed our way going into the weekend. As we take it through thursday, it is dry. Friday is when the next storm system will be approaching. It brings rain on friday, into saturday. And then it moves out on sunday. This also looks to be a significant storm bringing in some high rainfall totals and this is what some of the early computer models are showing. It has gotten greater since yesterday or earlier this morning. Were looking at the possibility of another four inches of rain in napa. And close to five inches of rain in the santa cruz mountains. Now this will be something that may be fine tuned either way and of course ill be watching. Now for the sierra, it will bring a significant amount of snow between now and early next week. May start out as rain but it could bring another couple of feet of snow. And temperaturewise were staying cool, only in the upper 50s to low 60s. Once again the time frame of that storm will be all throughout the day on friday and most likely continuing throughout the day on saturday. So scott and laura, here we go again with a soggy weekend ahead. Well we need the train. And snow for the sierra too. Thank you. Well, coming up next, after all of the shopping this past weekend and cyber monday, maybe a lot of your christmas list is crossed off. If that is true, this might make you mad. Hell break down how many people say theyre going to return the gifts you gave them. Yeah the ones you just bought. A new survey finds 77 of consumers will return one of your gifts. Nearly 20 will return about half of the presents they get. Now retailers are taking notice as giftgiving has grown. The money goes to local food banks. Something we do every year and so much great fun. It really is. A last check of the weather. And today were seeing some clearing but also some spotty showers. Especially across the south bay and so our rain chance continues but mostly sunny skies elsewhere. Tomorrow well all see the rain coming back but it doesnt last all day.
