Afternoon, in the 50s and looking ahead into what ill tap into, in my big report in 15 minutes is the next big storm. Here is a look so far at what were tracking, valleys and mountain areas, several inches of additional rainfall compared to the last storm but its the gusty winds and the risk of potential flooding especially for all those burn zones, after the kincade fire that we will be monitoring very, very closely, so i will make sure to take you through this time line as far as how much rain, where the strongest winds will be and also the very important sierra travel. A lot of people are traveling back from thanksgiving, something i will be covering for you in about 15 minutes. Lets check the roads and see how thats doing. Everything was looking good and i did notice two accidents one up near 880. It it may be something along the bay bridge. Ill check the chp reports on that, hopefully nothing major. Any time something happens on the bay bridge we monitor that. Ill be back with another report in a bit. Back to you. Thank you, vianey. 6 01. A scare for thanksgiving shopping at an east bay store. Five people are now in custody tied to a shooting outside a target in fremont. It happened late last night at the store on fremont boulevard and mowery avenue. At least one shot was fired. No one was hit. We just spoke to police. They tracked down the suspects while responding to the reported shooting. The suspects led police on a chase and were taken into custody in nearby newark. Police say besides recovering the gun they found stolen video games. In San Francisco this morning, an absolute mess. Oh my gosh, a water main break and multiple leaks in petrero hills and chinatown for people waking up in a turkey coma to jackhammers and workers trying to fix their streets and their water mains. Our thom jensen is there live for us this morning with the latest. Hi, thom. Reporter good morning, you guys. You can see the crews here still hard at work trying to fix this 12 inch line. This is the big one that broke, that caused most of the damage. Until they get the repairs made here, they will not be able to return service to this area on petrero hill. After this line broke late last night, it was incredible what happened on the streets here, water just came screaming down the asphalt, turning the street into a river. It was deep enough to flood garages and basements of at least three homes and caused a lot of damage to the pavement. A six inch line and an eight inch line were also affected by this, according to San Francisco puc. Were not sure if the lines broke or backed up, but there was some minor flooding there as well as nearby streets. The water ran on to northbound lanes of highway 101 causing traffic to be routed around that standi ing water and up on highy 280, the highway is back open this morning. Another water line the San Francisco pu krurc is calling a opened up a sizeable fish uat mason and jackson streets in chinatown, shutting down Cable Car Service for a while. Repairs were completed there a short time ago, and it looks like the Cable Car Service will be running in that part of chinatown back up again. No word yet what caused this break, but the focus right now is to make sure they get these repairs made, get the street fixed so they can return service and get the road back open again. It is closed at the bottom of the hill here. Were live in San Francisco, thom jensen, today in the bay. Thom, thank you. Investigators are looking into yet another case of something being thrown or shot at a car in monterey county. Its the 43rd time this year that someone has thrown something at a car in the prunedale area around salinas. The latest incident happened before 8 00 last night on eastbound 156, a car full of a family was headed toward the San Miguel Canyon when something hit the car. It shattered the glass and fell onto a man inside the car and cut his arm. Here is what one of the passengers told us. It was kind of like a balloon popping. It was more disorienting than anything but i guess, i mean its lucky that nothing bad happened. Yes, yes. But something bad could happen. Another attack happened monday when a van carrying a family was hit. Right now a 4,000 reward is being offered for information to find who is responsible. Its 6 05. Lets talk about something perhaps happier, all the black friday shopping. All the black friday shopping in the cold weather, all the people dedicated to getting deals and our own kris sanchez is out there braving the cold and finding people who are willing to share what theyve bought for themselves, because kris, youre finding a lot of people shopping for themselves this morning. Reporter yes, a lot of people are buying for themselves, and i have to wonder if theyre buying boots and socks and gloves because it is cold out here. These folks dressed like theyre headed to tahoe. This little guy, how long have you been out here . I dont know. Reporter you dont know. Hes lost track of time. He is just walking up lining this, so tired. This is the line for one of the stores here the tory bicrh line. Weve seen bags. What did you buy . Oh reporter is that full of stuff, you brought it or bought it . We bought stuff. We got the smart move, the whole bag. Reporter this is not your first time obviously. Thats why we are used to the shopping. Reporter my goodness. Did you have thanksgiving dinner before you came . Oh, yeah. Reporter thats good. You had to fuel up. Its important to eat. Happy thanksgiving, so there is the line inside, folks are looking around, theyre nice and toasty and warm in there. Out here its a little bit chillier. A little slower in some other parts. We hear this is a lull, that it will start picking up right around the 6 00 hour, where we are right now. So you can see people are milling about, very cheerful. Lots of bags, clearly feeling good about the economy so lots of purchases here. I have never done this before. We have never done black friday shopping in my family, were usually too busy playing scrabble and mexican train and having leftovers but a lot of families here together so we saw that little guy over there, we see lots of kids out here so at least folks are spending time together, so if youre headed out to do some black friday shopping, bundle up, because it is cold out here. Back to you guys. So i know kris theres a slight delay in your earpiece hearing us. I want to know this is your first time youve ever been out on black friday. Are you going to shop . Reporter i dont think so. Since im here today, maybe. Right. Reporter but would i come . I dont know. I just i have to think about it. Fair enough. Reporter i am pretty frugal so that part is appealing to me. And tory birch, you were showing that line, thats good stuff at a discount. Im just saying. Reporter i know, that is the uniform of the chic mom. We wont tell your mom if you do shop today, kris. Fair enough. We wont tell her. Kris mom doesnt want her shopping. If you have a flight plan this weekend i hate to say it, we may have some impacts to the flights by the big storm making its way into saturday morning, im talking wind, snow, drop in temperatures, another cold blast, were headed right for the bay area. San francisco right now 43 degrees. Yesterdays high was only 48, which made for a nice crisp thanksgiving day but at least its not as rainy as what we saw with incoming storm about two, three days ago. San jose right now 37 degrees, and our wind sheltered valleys through the north bay are in the 20s. Your microclimate highs for this afternoon were talking a solid mix of possible scattered showers. We still have a little bit of that instability off the coast that could trickle on through the afternoon. Ukiah and clearlake only in the 40s this morning. San jose topping out at 54 this afternoon. San francisco 51, but i want to show you what we have in store. Right now we still have storm ranger up and scanning, working hard, our mobile doppler radar, the only ones that have it in the bay area and our key component to tracking that storm this weekend. There is that instability that i mentioned just off the coast, and this is what were talking about in terms of the time of timing. We have an Atmospheric River event expected to make its arrival early saturday morning, with a little bit of rain, light morning rain and then as we head in through the afternoon, were talking heavy downpours with the heavy pockets of rain, also gusty, windy conditions especially for the mountain areas, 30 to 45mileperhour winds, bringing a concern saturday evening into early monday morning for the potential of localized flooding, especially in the mountain area. Milder temperatures, but the rain continues and as i mentioned, that Flash Flood Watch is going to be in effect starting at 1 00 p. M. Tomorrow through monday at 4 00 a. M. At risk the kincade fire burn area in northern sonoma county, impacts could be potential for rock slides, debris flows and flash flooding. In addition to that, dangerous sierra travel, look at how much snow were expecting from the system saturday, sunday, into monday right now, over 58 possible inches in kingvale. South lake ta show 35 degrees. Im pretty sure that your best travel window right now is right now through tomorrow morning, based on the models, so head out now. I jump on Facebook Live to try to chat with you guys and personalize the forecast so you can follow me, because the timing of the stomp is very important to get you through the weekend. Dont put away the rain boots. I dont think youll need the uhm he brel umbrella, its too windy. We arent seeing any traffic accidents so far, this is the scene all morning. I cant count the cars, usually i can on thanksgiving morning because theres that little amount. I think theres a good amount, a lot of people headed back to work or maybe doing morning shopping. Right now overall look at the map, i did talk about the potential of an accident being on the bay bridge, but im happy to say chp has cleared that out, it looks like there might have been an issue near treasure island, not seeing any delays now and aside from that, drive times smooth commute. Back to you. Thanks. Toys r us closed last year but making a comeback in time for the holidays. Next, what the new stores look like. Plus tis the season for giving. But where is your money going . At the holidays many embrace the spirit of giving. Next actuals is giving tuesday, and its a big day for contributions. Just make sure youre not letting anybody take advantage of your generosity. Consumer investigator chris chmura has some advice. Good morning. Before you give, you got to make sure you know who is getting your money and how theyre going to use it. So dont be afraid to ask questions, legitimate charities will open their books and their doors to let you see the good work theyre doing. Also, research the charity that wants your money. Use the website Like Charity Navigator or charity watch. They pick apart the Charities Tax filings and follow the money. You can also look up a charity yourself with its federal i. D. Number with the irs. If an organization is not registered with the irs you should probably ask them why and hold off on giving until you get an answer. Finally, remember that new federal tax law . Yeah, it might limit or completely eliminate your deduction for donations. If a tax writeoff is important to you, ask a tax pro before you make a contribution. Got questions for concerns about a charity, let us know. 888996tips or online at nbcbayarea. Com responds. Thank you, chris. The big story if youre just waking up is the weather. Westbound 80 toward the bay bridge about eight minutes and westbound 92 toward the san mateo bridge 13 minutes, so westbound 84 toward the dumbarton bridge only nine minutes. Back to you. Vianey, thanks. New overnight a scare for thanksgiving shoppers at a store in the east bay. Five people are now in Police Custody tied to a shooting outside of a target store. This happened in fremont late last night at the store on fremont boulevard and mowery avenue. At least one shot was fired. Luckily no one was hit. We just talked to police, they actually tracked down the suspects while responding to the reported shooting. The suspects then led police on a chase and were taken into custody in nearby newark. Besides recovering the gun they also found stolen video games. It is 6 31. The for folks in San Francisco not only do they not have water but loud. Loud indeed. A water main break and multiple leaks overnight in two parts of the city. Thom jensen is live in petrero hill with the latest. Reporter good morning. You can see exactly now how big this water main is that broke. They have the new pipe that theyre bringing in, its a 12 inch main. You can imagine how much water goes through that. Thats broken. Crews are trying to get that repaired before they can get Service Restored here on petrero hill. The video that we showed you earlier is incredible, isnt it, when this line broke t looks like a river rushing down the street here, and in fact it was enough water that it came up to the household and actually went in to the garages and basements of three homes. We do not know how extensive that damage is, but we do know that this 12 inch break here also caused some issues with two other lines in nearby neighborhoods, a six inch line and eight inch line also caused a little bit of flooding and some issues there. They wont be able to return any of the service until this line gets fixed and also all of that water went rushing down, a lot of it anyway onto interstate, highway 101, causing a closure of the northbound lanes for a short period of time. The highway is back open this morning in both directions. Meanwhile, while all this was going on in petrero hill and chinatown at mason and jackson streets, San Francisco puc is calling this a leaking line but it did cause a lot of water to rush down the street, and cause a lot of damage to the roadway. Also, shutting down of the Cable Car Service in that part of chinatown for a short period of time. We understand that that work is complete, the repairs are done this morning on that break, and they have Cable Car Service back up and the roads are operating again, but back here live now, this is what they need to get fixed, this 12 inch line cut out, theyre down there cutting the broken line right now, and then theyll bring in a piece of this pipe, put it in, and fix the line, then theyll be able to get water restored to this part of petrero hill. Were live in San Francisco, thom jensen, today in the bay. All right, thom, thank you. Those poor people. Back to our microclimate weather alert, a onetwo punch, beautiful looking, but freezing cold temperatures once you step outside, followed by another powerful incoming storm this weekend, and it all has people scrambling to get ready. This weekends Atmospheric River event is a real concern for many communities, just hit by wildfires, where the terrain is fragile. Even the Santa Clara County area near los gatos torn up by the loma fire three years ago is still recovering. One homeowner tells us residents are ready for the storms, but hes not so sure about the soil. Theres all the massive water t gets super muddy. A couple times, about last year we couldnt even get out of our house. We had to have atvs come and pick us up and drive us out. The homer wants the county to stabilize and repair the beat up roads. We will be tracking the changing weather through the weekend. Our website is a great resource. Vianey is updating that all the time, and you can download our free app with access to live radar as well. In the timing of this, is going to be very crucial, because right now it seems like its all calm aside from the cold weather but headed into tomorrow, thats all going to change. So look at friday, right now were not seeing any activity, the radar is overall calm, a few scattered showers through the evening, and then notice how the time bar right up here, let me guide you through this, saturday 5 00 a. M. , there comes the rain, right offshore. This is turning into an Atmospheric River event. Ill fast forward the time line around 8 30, we start to get the pockets of rain in through santa rosa, the heaviest expected up to the mountain areas. San francisco san rafael and right now the wind and the rain is expected to increase by the afternoon. So im going to fast forward this again for you. Look at this, 12 00, 1 00, 2 00, 3 00, you see the hues of red and yellow. Those are heavy pockets of down pours, when youre driving, its raining and comes pouring down, thats exactly what were expecting for tomorrow and no breaks in the rain. Its going to become widespread all the way from santa rosa down through the santa cruz mounta mountains. Highway 17 is going to be rough, because our mountain areas totals by sunday night talking about two and a half inches to possibly five inches of rain. Five inches, up through the mountain areas, through the east bay hills as well. It will be a big concern as well when it comes to the burn scars so a Flash Flood Watch will be in effect starting at 1 00 p. M. Tomorrow, through monday at 4 00 a. M. Areas at risk our biggest concern will be the kincade fire burn area northern sonoma county, impacts were talking potential for rock slides, debris flows and flash flooding especially for locations just down the stream of the burn scars. Another big impact is going to be your lake tahoe travel commute. Beautiful sight but if you planned to drive back this weekend, wait until either monday night or tuesday morning, because our threeday totals right now when it comes to the snow, anywhere from one to three feet, dangerous travel expected, especially saturday night into sunday morning. Our temperatures will be dipping down into the 20s and even six degrees overnight tonight. That gives you an idea how impactful this storm is expected to be. The snow survey is expected to be released between now and january 5th, so were going to keep a close eye on that, but again, this storm is going to bring a lot of rain, wind and snow, so please, be prepared.
