Nbc bay area roz plater is live with the school board decision. What have we been able to find out . Reporter weve been talking to parents and finding out this is a hotbutton issue dividing parents to how could this happen in 2019 and those who say it may not be such a big deal. Millions of people not enough to eat, what will we do reporter now a post of this video on twitter seeing the man seen here in black face is a white teach at Milpitas High School and on halloween in a classroom he trying to imitate africanamerican rapper common. Now some parents are unhappy with how the school has handled this and are asking how the teacher Walking Around the campus in full blackface and no administrator called him out for being inappropriate and still other parents arent quite sure what all of the fuss is about. The school should have made the teacher take himself to the locker room and take a shower and start his whole day all over with. And that is the thing that the school didnt do. At all. It is just wrong of them. He did it with a cruel heart like mocking, i would say that is wrong. But if he did it because it is a costume because of whatever he was trying to portray um kind of one of those things. Reporter well the superintendent and the principal released a new joint statement saying in part the act was disparaging to our students, our parents, colleagues and the milpitas community we service. Our Human Relations Team has placed the employee on leave and appropriate action will be taken pending further investigation. The School District has not yet released the name of the teacher and were still waiting word for what will happen as they carry out the investigation. Im roz plater, nbc bay area news. Thanks for the very latest. Take a look at this. A b. A. R. T. Supervisor being called a hero after witnesses say he saved a mans life. This brandnew video shows ow close of a call it was. It happened last night at the coliseum station right after the raiders game. See the man stumbling off and he was intoxicated and fell on to the tracks right as the b. A. R. T. Train rolled into the station. And that is when john oconnor swooped in and pull the man off the tracks. With less than a second to spare. The video shows him almost right after that rescue. Oconnor was working crowd control after the raiders game at the time. Hes also worked at b. A. R. T. For more than 20 years. Saved that mans life. Certainly a scary situation with that one. All right. Well Silicon Valley buzzing but this about apple overnight announcement that it plans to put 2. 5 billion towards addressing the housing crisis in the bay area and california. Nbc bay areas kris sanchez is live in apples home town of cupertino. So how much money are we talking about for Silicon Valley . Reporter well, 2. 5 billion is the biggest corporate contribution toward Affordable Housing to this point and about a fifth of that is earmarked specifically for Silicon Valley and san jose. Here is how apple is divvying up the 2. 5 billion pie. 1 billion into an Affordable HouseInvestment Fund available to the state of california and other developers to build low to moderate Income Housing. 1 billion will fund a down Payment Assistance Loan Program for firsttime buyers, especially Service Personnel and School Employees and veterans. The bay area will benefit from 300 million in appleowned property in the city of san jose made available for the construction of Affordable Housing and the 150 million which apple will put toward the existing bay area Housing TrustSilicon Valley which has a decades old housing fund and 50 million to support vulnerable populations through destination homes. The reaction is far is mixed with skeptics saying this is not an Affordable Housing program, this is a mortgage assistance to help folks buy property they cant afford to own in an area of the country they cant afford to live. Apple is not guilty of being benevolent, apple wants the tax benefits. But others are more supportive. Given the whole that the state of california is in with housing and the number of homes necessary, it will take everybody to step up and everybody to do new things to address this crisis. Were excited to see apple and follow the lead of other Tech Companies that have recently now joined the fight to create more housing and this is how you get to the solution. I think theyre causing enough of a effect on the economy again that it does make sense. Reporter now in a statement overnight the apple ceo tim cook said the company has a civil responsibility toward affordable. Governor gavin newsom said that he hopes other Bay Area Companies will follow suit. But there are two big contributions made before this. Facebook and google both committing 1 billion each toward helping to solve that affordability crisis. A crisis that a lot of critics say these big Tech Companies help to create by creating more jobs than Affordable Housing of any kind. In cupertino, kris sanchez, nbc bay area news. A lot of money there. Thank you. Well our team sent out an alert on nbc bay area app as soon as we found out about apples announcement. And if you dont have it, you need to get it because this is a great source and you know what, you could download it because it is free and easy to get. Just in, the four men scheduled to speak to lawmakers are expected to be a noshow. This comes as House Democrats are releasing the first set of transcripts from other closeddoor depositions. Documents show the ousted u. S. Ambassador to ukraine told investigators it was not good policy for the state department to get involved in President Trumps efforts to solicit political help from the ukrainian government. As Hallie Jackson reports, President Trump is taking aim at the whistleblower who first sounded the alarm about his dealings with ukraine. Reporter it is the president versus the whistleblower this morning. The whistleblower gave a very inaccurate report about my phone call. My phone call was perfecto. It was totally appropriate. Reporter with President Trump stepping up his attacks against the anonymous person who reported on the phone call with the leader of ukraine in which President Trump suggested with holding military aid for political help at home. The whistleblower should be revealed. Because the whistleblower gave false stories. Some people would call it fraud. I wont go that far. But when i read it closely, i probably would. Reporter that call to unmask the whistleblower considered a stark departure from the norm with the whistleblowers attorney fighting back tweeting republicans are looking to expose our clients identity which could jeopardize their safety and that of their family. As for the whistleblowers complaint, multiple details have been corroborated by witness testimony and the complaint largely matches a rough transcript of that call released by the white house. But the president insists there was no quid pro quo. His alleys echoing him arguing ukraine ultimately did receive the military aid money held up during the push for political investigations into the president s rival. Isnt that the definition of a quid pro quo . The fact is that crane has aid. Theyre using that aid as we sit here. You wont say yes or no. It doesnt quid pro quo, yes or no. I already said to, you dont know whether aid was being held up. That is Hallie Jackson reporting. In the meantime nbc has learned President Trump has lost the bid to halt a grand jury subpoena for his tax returns and that battle is playing out in connection with a scandal in allegations he paid off two women he had affairs with leading up to the 2016 president ial election. The manhattan attorney subpoenaed the documents and today a court ruled president ial immunity does not extend to this type of case. Now to fremont, a care for homeowners as firefighters put out a brush fire this morning. It began before 6 00 on hunter lane. This is east of mission boulevard. That burned less than one acre. The latest round of California Wildfires is setting off a new firestorm of tweets from trump which included veiled threats to cut funding. He tweeted gavin newsom has done a terrible job of forest management. Gavin newsom fired back with one tweet simply saying, quote, you dont believe in climate change. Youre excused from this conversation. Well now to a live look outside for us across the bay area. We really have been enjoying some nice weather while you talk to your friends and family out east and theyre like it is so cold. It is snowing. So, yeah, we cant complain about this. Take a look outside and in clear lake and were enjoying our cool start to the morning. And also some warm afternoons as we are seeing some less smoke in the skies as the kincade fire gets more containment. The firefighters getting the upper hand. As we look live in San Francisco at the golden gate bridge, now all clear. Earlier this morning we did see a layer of fog rolling across the bridge that limited the visibility for those drivers coming across the bridge. And so were seeing it clearing out now for the inland areas just looking very hazy barely see the hills in the distance there. As our temperatures start out in the mid70s for early afternoon. Well reach the upper 70s and then start to cool off quickly by 7 00 were already down to about 65 degrees as we go through all of our microclimates and go hourbyhour were seeing it at 2 00, santa rosa is at 80 degrees. 76 in san mateo. And 78 in san jose. Livermore will be at 77. So that is about the warmest point for the afternoon. As it starts to cool off, well see it 4 00, 5 00, 6 00, it cools off fast. So if you dont have the jacket with you, you may be cool heading out to dinner. Were going to be at 68 degrees in al madden and 64 degrees in alameda. By tonight we drop back into the upper 40s and low 50s for the morning start. So this is the weather pattern were in. Were seeing a very persistent High Pressure just off to our west. And that is giving us that with that clockwise wind flow giving us a northerly wind but also very dry and right now it is blocking any chance of rain even though weve seen numerous storm systems developing out in the pacific, it is steering the storm systems well to the north and then up and around. So that is the reason why they do see the cooler and stormy pattern for the east coast but well stay dry over the next several days. And it is possible that we may not see this High Pressure moving for most of the month of november. According to the commuter models, knnot showing any chanc of rain any time near in the next couple of weeks. So that is something well be watching. Were hoping to at least get some showers in here and a change in that pattern. Meantime well have above normal temperatures for the inland areas. Were reaching into the upper 70s and San Francisco will see upper 60s and low 70s throughout the rest of the week. Laura. Thanks, kari.
