The kincade fire burning for six days in Sonoma County. The new numbers just in. It has burned more than 75,000 acres and remained at 15 containment and 124 structures are destroyed. Also some 90,000 homes and buildings is are still threatened with more than 100,000 people still under Evacuation Orders. Two firefighters have been hurt. One suffering burn injuries flown to Uc Davis Medical Center is now in stable condition. And we have Live Team Coverage for you now. First lets get right to nbc bay area pete suratos live in santa rosa with the next step firefighters from across the country are taking in the fire fight. And pete, i know cal fire just gave us an update on where things stand so what is next here . Reporter good morning to you. We just got that update in the past hour. The command center here at the Sonoma County fairgrounds in santa rosa, we have firefighters stationed here ready to battle the kincade fire and there was a brief at 7 00 a. M. Where all of the firefighters met to lay out that game plan for the rest of the day. But cal fire officials explaining specifically the goal is to continue to build the containment lines and protect structures. The big focus over the next 12 hours are the winds and describing the flow changing from on shore to off shore. So this is going to test the westward flanks along the 101 corridor and something we talked about when it comes to containing this fire. This wind event could become an issue when it comes to overall containment and that is why cal fire said there is a heavy fire presence along the 101 in preparation for the evening winds. The winds that we contend with, until it actually surfaces, we have a general estimate of where it is coming at but it could be anywhere along the perimeter. 101 is one of the priorities to hold and that whole area that is populated on the 101 corridor. So that is the test this evening when the wind comes through and that is why youll see a significant number of resources in place around those communities. Reporter now as far as evacuations go, Sonoma County sheriffs said it is not a good day to talk about areas being repopulated since there is still a lot of work to do. The county mentioned there are 21 shelters open around the county as people prepare for the code blue advisory due to cold temperatures but we expect another briefing later this evening at 6 30 p. M. In santa rosa, pete suratos, nbc bay area news. So many firefighters there to fight that fire. Pete, thank you. Now we want to pause to give you perspective on just how big the kincade fire is. Were talking about more than 75,000 acres. Now this is a map were showing you here of that fire zone. And you could see in the red right here, this is the fire. But what we want to do now is take that fire and then place it over San Francisco. Just look at scope of this fire. It extends all the way here to the ocean, down to sfo here. Just huge. Taking up space, covering area. And also we want to show you another area just how there is so much smoke in the bay area as well. [ technical difficulties ] a view of the smoke blowing across the mountains. A live shot from st. Helena this morning. And also the smoke that has been coming into the bay area not very healthy to breathe in. Kari hall is in the Weather Center with more on the strong winds expected later today. And the smoke being displaced across the area. As we look at the view over San Francisco now. If you do have breathing problem, wear a mask and limit time outside. Turn the airconditioner on recirculate. And here is what were seeing once again with the view from st. Helena looking at kincade fire. So many landscape has been burned but also see theyre trying to make some progress dropping the fire retardant as you see the lines to get more containment as the winds start to pick up wednesday once against. And i put some arrows where we expect it to spread with a northerly to northeast wind it will continue to spread the fire far toward the south and the southwestment so that makes it move closer to highway 101 and the edge of that line of where weve seen the kincade fire burn is so close to the highway already. So we could possibly see it getting on the other side of highway 101 with a strong wind. Looking at what were seeing in terms of smoke dripping in, we do have some unhealthy air quality for areas like oakland and San Francisco. It is being trapped in those low levels of the atmosphere. So its unhealthy for sensitive groups and that means people with breathing problems, asthma and the high amount of allergies, youre going to want to take it easy today as the red flag warning goes up for the north bay and a high fire danger into the afternoon. Well go through a timeline of the wind speeds and what were expecting over the next 24 hours. That is coming up in the full microclimate forecast. Happening right now, the next round of power shutoffs are underway. We have team coverage. Bob redell is talking with folks who have been without power for days now. But first lets check in with nbc bay areas kris sanchez joining us where it is happening and how to stay up to date. This is the pg e map, we showed you and you just saw it for a minute there on the outages. Some of the northern parts of the area have already lost power in the bay area. We expect about 11 00. Now all of the areas in the orange, yellow, those are all of the areas that are affected. It is every county in the bay area except for San Francisco. Now folks could also check their neighborhood by zooming in and trying to find the street view map that way. You could also type in a specific address. It is helpful to look at that street view if youre passing through one community to the next as you go on through the day. Find a link to this at nbcbayarea. Com. We want to make sure you have access to that. I also talked with the pg e spokesperson in the last 45 minutes and she tells me 60 of customers affected have their power back and that means 40 still dont. She echoed the kre to Ask Community members to not take your frustration out on the field in the crews trying to get the lights back on. We understand that emotions are high and that people are angry. But we just ask that you please do not take that out on the men and women working in the field now trying to restore power safely and as quickly as possible. So here is the timeline of the outages so you could be ready at 7 00 this morning in parts of sonoma, napa, solano and mendocino and lake counties, they saw lights come off. By 11 00 tonight, the power will start to go out in marin, santa clara count, the evergreen neighborhood and also allen rock, santa cruz, san mateo, alameda and contra costa county. So far pg e reports that crews reported 50 different areas where there was wind damage because of that last wind event and about 100 instances of damage from the wind event before. Laura. Very concerning. Thanks, kris. Now live to contra costa county. Nbc bay areas bob redell live in lor inda. And it supremes li and it it seems like theyll have to endure for another day or two. Reporter it is hard to tell because in the last couple of minutes the power did come on on orinda and prior to that we were visiting with the murphys and the power is back on. But they do live in the hills in orinda and a steep area surrounded by brush and trees and this is a neighborhood at risk of burning if a power line were to come down. Theyve been without power since saturday living by candles and flashlights. Charging phones in their cars. Theyve already thrown out the food from their frig. They drive about five times away for food when they wanted it hot and fresh. Today theyre going to take their laundry to a friend who does have power because theyre out of clean clothes. They suspect the power will go back out tonight if it is still on today. And that it will be off until thursday. Now noah murphy said it feels like the life of a cave man but in spite of the huge inconvenience he is surprising sympathizing with pg e. He believes the utility is trying to do the best it can given the predicament it put itself in. Again, i dont mind. I dont care. Its just nature of the beast. Just hope the schools open up, right . And the kids can go to school and learn. But all in all, a lot of people complaining about it, just another day in the park for me. What are we supposed to do . Are we going to moan and grown about it and there is no point and it gets you nowhere. Im glad i was a candle holder because im resourceful with matches and heat wise you pack on another layer. Reporter weve heard from a number of people that arent as forgiving as the murphys. We asked one commuter this morning in orinda his thoughts on pg e and his words no comment. Live in orinda, bob redell, nbc bay area news. Thanks, bob. The governor gavin newsom blasted pg e for creating the outage situation. He said through years of mismanagement and what he called greed, the Center Valley congressman is drafting a bill to find the utility with taxes if it pays executive bonuses while not improving power infrastructure. Kris sanchez hosted a twitter poll asking if taxes are the answer . Folks seem split down the middle with two people say with 52 saying it should be broken up and taken over by the state. Well go on air early tomorrow morning to track the winds and Power Outages for you. Be sure to join us for a special today in the bay edition, we will start at 4 00 a. M. Tomorrow. Captain cody joining us this morning to talk about the Strategic Plan for today. Today our firefighters will plaque the big push with the favorable weather conditions into the morning and the afternoon we are able to get the hoses around this and contain the fire. Having that progression of being able to get the hot spots, well be able to get that containment number up before the wind events come. Captain, you have updated numbers and do you have a better idea of how large this fire is . Right now were were holding at 656 acres and were hoping to fly the fire with our air assets and we have six structures damaged and eight destroyed but Still Holding at 7,000 homes that were threatened during this fire. I know that we have our Evacuation Orders still in place and it is inconvenience but it is a necessity. We do anticipate a very large strong wind event this evening and that is our biggest concern is the life hazard. We want to make sure everything is in place and the contingency plan is established. When you look at damage and destruction on this street, are you surprised there are no injuries or loss of life . Yes and no. And i say yes because it was a very dynamic situation. You have at 1 30 and 2 00 in the morning folks waking up from a dead sleep for an Evacuation Order but no because we practice with the folks and something we put into play with the canyons and communities and weve worked on what these evacuations would look like and weve gone through these emotions in the past and in a nonstressful environment. But right now stocks are up about 4. 61, about 21 . Analysts are warning the moves could increase the probability of a zero share price. The stock last more than half of the value in three days. Now to new video from the fire zone in Sonoma County. Take a look. Chp golden gate air operations posting this to facebook this morning. Showing the smokey and windy conditions over healdsburg and highway 101. And here is a live look outside as the bay area moves along with the day. This is dublin as well as san rafael and you could see the haze and in both of the shots there, something were dealing with throughout the bay area. And kari, this has to do with the fires going on up north. Yeah. So it is starting to choke us out here as the smoke settles in the valleys so well have very unhealthy air quality today as we look across the south bay. We can see that it is not as clear as it was yesterday at this time. And so if you are about to head out, make sure you do have a mask or youre heading out to get one. Especially if you start to feel your throat really burning a lot or if your nose is burning. This is that smoke that will start to get to you as we go throughout the day. And even in the lowlying areas were seeing the Poor Visibility in spots as we are going to see more smoke coming in throughout the morning into the afternoon. So here is what is going on. We have not only the kincade fire but the grizzly fire in Solano County that will start to move into parts of contra costa county, over towards San Francisco. Also seeing it moving into the rest of the east bay as well as the trivalley all because of the shift in the wind direction that is going to cause that smoke to travel down across much more of the bay area today compared to yesterday. And then we are also tracking the Power Outages and the temperatures that we have. It is been really cold these past couple of days and will be even colder tonight as we are going to see those lows dropping down into the 30s. If you dont have power right now, our temperatures are in the mid50s in santa rosa. Upper 50s in napa. We do have some mid 60s in oakland but mostly 50s here and well warm up into the 70s. Weve already seen the red flag warning and high fire danger beginning in the north bay, ive been watching the wind speeds in higher elevations, above 2,000 feet ive seen the winds reach so far 45 Miles Per Hour and the potential of some gusts up to 65mileperhour today. For the valleys and the coast, not much wind and well see the gusts picking up to 35 Miles Per Hour and then the red flag warning for the east bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains begins at 1 00 today. So lets go hourbyhour. Look at our wind speed forecast. Were going to see our winds mostly at about 25 to 35 Miles Per Hour. This wind event doesnt look as strong as the last one but still a prolonged period of some gusty winds before we see a shift. Also very low humidity relative numbers in the teens. And may drop down into the singledigits. As far as high temperatures today, were heading into the low 70s for the south bay as well as the east bay with some low 70s. And this is the area of low pressure that is causing or gusty offshore winds. Into the next several days that will start to move away and High Pressure will be left behind so well have a lighter pressure gradient, not much of the wind going into halloween as well as the weekend. As we look ahead to what else could be down the line. We could track weather systems out about two weeks. There will be some storm systems rolling across the pacific but blocked by High Pressure. So no rain in the forecast from now through at least november 7th. So we do see more dry conditions but at least no more wind. So that is the good news here. Even though it is windy today, winds taper off tomorrow and then we have several days of quiet weather where hopefully we get more containment on the wildfires to our north. So well have more updates on that and also looking at some nice weather and better air quality for halloween as well. Marcus and laura. Thank you, kari. So many people are dealing with the destruction and devastation from the recent wildfires throughout the state. Governor newsom is taking time to encourage those doing for others. The governor met with First Responders and volunteers with world central kitchen and they feeding many of the people forced from homes by the threat of the kincade fire and those fighting for hours on the front lines.
