Tonight they are doing their best to put out hot spots and create containment lines around the 66,000 acre fire before the wind kicks back up tomorrow putting the area at major risk yet again. They are spraying fire retardant on poles and clearing vegetation to keep them from catching fire and falling down. Typically the poles will ignite. Its a log. It will burn eventually. Reporter were back here live. Were looking at a blackened hillsides. One of this throughout the windsor area. Theres another house right on top of the hillside that is also escaped being destroyed. They ran into a freemont crew a short time ago. An oakland crew up the way so everybody is pitching in to try get the situation contained. Reporting live, im jodi, hernande hernandez. Fire crews across the bay area and Southern California helping the cause here. Were getting this new video in from the destruction. Youre looking at whats left of a home outside of windsor. A chimney there and some ashes even though so many homes were lost, neighbors are calling firefighters heroes for all that they were able to do and should mention, again, no reported deaths and no people missing at this point which is great news. Coming up at 6 00, nbc bay area will have more from this path of destruction of this fire. A couple who lost everything two years ago in the tubbs fire built their dream house and once again are in path of the fire. Thick smoke surrounds the home they moved in to just two months ago. They say this time they were warned and have their cars packed, ready the go. When the tubbs fire roared into their neighborhood two years ago they barely escaped with their lives. We just have to keep reminding ourselves that were survivors. We survivored the fire of october 2017 and this one takes on, too, well be survivors. If the new home is lost, one thing they wont do is rebuild. Nay will find a townhouse or maybe return to missouri where fires arent a seasonal crisis. The fire is in Sonoma County but we can still see smoke. This is a time lapsed video from pg e cameras. Lets bring in our meteorologist who has been tracking the conditions since this broke out last wednesday night. What comes ahead . The last thing we need right now. More wind gusts continues to show up in that weather forecast. I wanted to start off with a look at whats happening right now at the kincade fire. We did see more of a southerly wind today. That helps the fire to really push back on itself. There is some good news. Wind gusts of only 20 miles an hour. Temperature is 69 degrees but low humidity at 14 . I think really the largest danger continues to be in the locations that are under ev evacuatio evacuations. I want you to be on watch here. We have lots of hot spots that have been off to the north and were looking at 45 to 60 miles an hour wind gusts out of the north which next wind event that could blow some embers your way. Here is the deal. Tonight not much wind in the forecast. As we move through tomorrow, 3 00, it begins to build in from Northern California. Then i think were back in it with that wind by 11 00 p. M. Tomorrow night. So, tomorrow night into wednesday morning, well have that wind in our forecast and really overall, north bay mountains will be the worst of this wind the way we see it right now. Well have more updates in about 15 minutes. Mpl thanks so much. A reprieve for evacuees because of the kincade fire. These folks can go back home at their own risk. Thats the area in blue. They are now under voluntary evacuation orders. The area highlighted in yellow, they are still under a mandatory evacuation order. Many are just waiting it out there. Reporter yeah, were at the Sonoma County fire grounds and also across the street at the Veterans Memorial building, these two locations are jammed with people who have been forced from their homes because of the kincade fire. Its a drill in this area that people are becoming very familiar with. Fire evacuees have filled the usual shelter locations like county fairgrounds or community centers. In petaluma they are taking in evacue evacuees. We want to be known as people who serve in our community. I think as christians being a servant its who we are supposed to be. Reporter wanting to help but knowing how to help are two different things. Learn to be more precise with their wish list. One of the biggest things the community is generous is the donations are like overwhelming and so this time realizing that we actually need to be more specific and strategic in the donations that we need. Reporter water, nonperishable food and blankets are welcome. Used clothing not such a good idea. People are generous here like adrian martinez, an evacuee himself with the day off. He called his boss asking how to help. He delivered boxes of water. I was involved in the fire two years ago. I was waking up at 1 30, 2 00 many the morning feeling helpless. Its really a horrible feeling and i didnt want to feel like that or have people feel like that. Reporter in the last hour or so we were able to catch up with the governor who was here at the fairgrounds. We got some still shots of him meeting with fire evacuees. Later he was going to meet with First Responders and a little later he was supposed to be doing another News Conference in this area. Its interesting it almost feels like this is a relaxed day here in the fire area. Reporter Public Health officials are advising people with respiratory illnesses to stay indoors in a room with an air filter. Too much exposure to these Dangerous Levels of particles in the air can trigger asthma attacks. I wouldnt be outside but i had to go to jury duty. Reporter recess was moved indoors for schools in the Oakland Unified School district. The bay area air Quality Management district issued spare the air alerts for today and tomorrow. Im not going to be out here with all this stuff floating in the air. Reporter you might be wondering how does todays air compare to last year. The bay area district says the air quality then was actually a whole lot worse it was much more wide spread and a lot more dangerous particles in the air. Well send it back to you. Im the peninsula. Tonight many people across the bay area are bracing for their Third Straight night in the dark. Pg e did turn off the power on saturday. Now the concern is some people may not get power until a few days from now. It will happen before the strong winds move back in. Pg and e crews busy. They have to do that before they can reenergize certain communities. Some customers have learned they may not have they power restored before the possible next round tomorrow. Not just a north bay event. This is impacting folks down in the south bay. Reporter right now more than 18,000 people in the los gatos area are still without power. Here they have to cancel classes today because they didnt have any electricity. A line out the door. Just everybody coming in for food and drink and Internet Access and its just been absolutely chaos. Reporter just a few doors up the street a different kind of chaos at vitality bowls. The cafe has no power and despite using dry ice, he estimates hell lose 10,000 during the planned shut off. Most of the homes in this neighborhood have no electricity. That means no hot shower for bob after his bike ride. No hot water. No washing and drying. Reporter los gatos high is closed and so is the library. Have to plan around where there will be power before you go out. Reporter planned power shut offs are such a concern the Jewish Community center is offering a min mi power outage camp for kids so parents have a child care option. Classes are expected to resume here tomorrow. I just got off the phone with pg e and they said even if you have your power restored today, its a possibility it will be cut off tomorrow because of the expected high winds. You can see the man walking down the street on the sidewalk there. He suddenly swings his arm and chases after the woman with a child. Now once he gets closer to them, there it is right there. You can see down here through the north bay. You map need that air on recirculating your car and might need to get that n95 mask. Were seeing the gusty winds. A brand new system dropping down here from the pacific northwest. That will ramp up the wind again. Air flows from High Pressure to low pressure. As the low pressure moves closer to the bay area it will really crank up once again here through the bay area. I think the top concern we have been talking about is anyone that is down wind of this new event. Were looking at more north to northeasterly winds so windsor, all in those locations where you could have hot spots. Thats the main focus of the top threat from this fire. What about the winds . By 3 00 p. M. You can see it redevelop in the north bay. It really gets going once we itt 7 00 p. M. On tuesday. The mountain, one again, 40 to 50 miles an hour gusts possible. Overnight into tuesday or into wednesday morning, were Still Holding onto those wind gusts. Once we hit wednesday by 9 00 in the morning well see the wind move on out. Its not nearly as windy as this last event. Wind calms down by 9 00 a. M. On wednesday. Nice halloween. Temperatures in the 60s across San Francisco.
