Has barned 54,000 acres, containment has dropped to 5 . Another 80,000 homes are threatened by flames. Firefighters believe it will take until november 7th to contain the fire. Schools are closed because of the smoke and ongoing Power Outages. We have a full list on nbcbayarea. Com and running them on the bottom of the screen all morning. And tracking new evacuation orders overnight into. Sharon katsuda is live at the frontlines. Firefighters are still on the scene there . Reporter that is right. And we just moved from a decision location so were now here right along spot road in the heart of this evacuation area and you could see behind me there are fire engines here. They saved this home. Im told that the flames came right up to the back side of this home so very good use here but the fire has moved on closer towards santa rosa. That is what im hearing. Now lets take a look at video of the flames. We shot this about 3 00 this morning just off the road here. Got very close to structures and very active scene here. I asked the firefighters when we arrived just about 15 minutes ago and they said that still active fire just beyond the mountain here. So we saw that as we were driving up, flames that were an orange glow and we have to cross five to six different road closures to get here. This whole area has been evacuated. In fact, we saw a Retirement Community and made me wonder how they got out of here but there was a shamrock Retirement Community in this area. So a lot of concern, people without power. We saw stoplights and intersections without power coming to this area. So back here live. Fire engines still here and im told it is an active fire just beyond this house and that is why they are all still out here. We see fire departments, fire engines from milpitas and American Canyon so all over the bay area coming here to help out. Live, im sharon katsuda, today in the bay. Even from out of state. Ive talked to somebody from cal fire yesterday and we have folks here from oregon and so were getting a lot of help for such a massive fire. Thank you, sharon. Talking about the conditions, theyre just getting strong. The wind yesterday was the big problem. Meteorologist kari hall is tracking that for us. And kari, it will taper off a bit today. It will taper off today and were still seeing high wind gusts in the areas to the north and the hills. But look at the smoke plume that was blowing directly off toward the southwest from the kincade fire. And so most of us across the bay area havent had a lot of that smoke today. A closer look and reduced visibility due to the smoke coming in near healdsburg because the visibility was that far and they didnt want people driving in low visibility and the unhealthy air quality. Today well start to see moek moving into the rest of the bay area due to a shift in the wind. It starts this afternoon into the evening hours. Eventually into the south bay tonight. Ill be tracking that and well talk about the winds coming up in a couple of minutes. But mike will take to the bay area. That is right. We started here because this is a half way poiblts where the fire is active and where it has less of an impact. Were over here and we see a lighter volume of traffic and we expect that to be the case likely today because even over here off of the bay area we did have folks impacted by the fire on highway 24 yesterday. A smooth drive south of there. No major problems just the wind a factor as far as chp is concerned and kari is talking about and that is why we have such a huge event with the wind speeds out there. A smooth drive. Walnut creek interchange and 242 minor issues with disabled vehicle but a bigger issue is right there. You see the slowing westbound 80 toward the carquinez bridge and we have one lane in each direction blocked for fire crews addressing the glen cove fire. And kari did talk about the smoke but the 80 is closed from 101 back to tubbs. This is what people in the east bay had to deal with yesterday. Take a look at this. This is the fire at the carquinez bridge that shut down traffic. Look at that billowing smoke. This morning there is real concerns still about all of that smoke coming into the bay and it is not just smoke from the kincade fire. Today in the bay bob redell is live. Tell people what they need to know before they head out of the door. This is a spare the air day. No surprise. Here in downtown martinez, you could smell the smoke and it is definitely there and you could see it. There is a light haze in the air. I want to put up a map on the screen. The green circles, this is what you want to see. Green is good. Red circles not good. Green means the air quality index is reading from 0 to 50. That is typically what you want. Right now were seeing readings well over 100 in some places 200. And for some perspective, last years campfire outside of chico sent our air quality soaring into the 400s. Any point is were not there yet. Hopefully we wont be. But we are definitely not good air day. There is another spare the air day and the district believes the winds will shift later today and send more smoke our way instead of out over the pacific ocean. This is a reminder to the elderly, Young Children or anyone with chronic lung conditions to stay indoors and for all of us to avoid rigorous exercise. Live in martinez. Bob redell, today in the bay. Thank you. Now to an update on Power Outages across north america. More than 3 Million People are waking up without power. Some of the outages were not part of the blackout but windrelated and pg e hopes to restore power before the next windstorm and expects to give the all clear for some areas between 6 00 and 8 00 this morning. Were bracing for yet another potential outage as soon as tomorrow. Pg e said that it already started sending out notifications about tomorrows outage to a half million homes and businesses. Tomorrow is when the next wind event is expected. Kari is tracking this all for us. And were so gusty yesterday. Here is a look at the peak winds that we had in the north bay. We had gusts up to 93 Miles Per Hour. And in the east bay we had gusts up to 53, 56 in vallejo and then in the south bay wind gusts over 30 Miles Per Hour. We are getting ready for another wind event but it doesnt look as strong as the winds that we just witnessed. So as we go through the rest of the forecast, were going to see our winds calming down today. That is our break. But then by tomorrow morning in the north bay as well as the east bay, were going to start to see the winds picking up again. This time around were looking at winds from 35 to 45 Miles Per Hour and a little bit higher in the higher elevations. So ill be tracking that and ill have another look at the forecast coming up in a few minutes. Thank you, kari. Well happening now right here live, a look in Southern California. The wildfire burning near the getty center in los angeles. Just look as the flames just intensefy there. You could see it from the sky. Look at how close it is to the 405. And cars still traveling on that area. That is not too far from ucla. We got word the fire has burned 250 acres. We just hit 100 acres not too long ago but it shows how quickly it spread. And the same thing up north but down in Southern California you could see this. But certainly well continue to follow this fire. This is burning near the getty center and very close to the 405. But this is in los angeles right now. Well continue to follow that later for you. Were also going to keep you updated on the changes with our fire coverage here in the bay area. Right now at 5 12 were still under a microclimate weather alert due to poor air quality today and it starts out chilly in martinez. Expect it to drop down to 46 degrees at 8 00. And then slowly warm up today. Were going to stay in the 60s throughout the morning but then this afternoon the smoke comes in. Ill talk about that and our next wind event coming up in less than five minutes. And on the peninsula things are light and easy as you would expect over here in palo alto. Across the bay we have a little more traffic. We expect the taillights to be gathering over at the bay bridge for traffic slow as weve had so much disruptions. Well check on that coming up. And good morning. A quick Silicon Valley update before getting back to the fire. Pg e stock falling hard as the remaining investors worry about liability from the latest fires. Airbnb opened up program to allow other people to offer homes for free to those displaced by the fire. Around 200,000 pop have been displaced. It is not obvious where to find the link. If you need it on the company website, but i tweeted out the link. Relief workers and firefighters are also eligible and this lasts through november 7th. Big business news. Brexit is delayed again. Brexit was supposed to leave no later than thursday. The e. U. Will allow Great Britain to stay through january 31st of next year. Don valentine died over the weekend, the founder of sequoia capital, the son of a new york milk man and one of the people that made Silicon Valley one of the most important places in the world. On friday we talked about 3d printing and we were going to explore that but of course we brought you complete coverage of the fire instead. You could see the episode at press here tv and well run it at a later. A warning from the California Attorney general. Price gouging will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Xavier becerra reminds everybody it is a crime to raise priced by more than 10 during a state or locally declared emergency. Law applies to food, emergency, medical supplies or gas or any substantial items. Firsttime violations could be fined 10,000 and receive one year in jail and if you feel like youve been a price gouge victim contact your local police and sheriffs office. And look at this. This is a moment after firefighters put out a fire. This is in vallejo. A glenco man hugging there and so excited and thankful. And then that man after just exchanging words there simply just laid down on the ground. Just overwhmed. She later spoke with the man who became incredibly emotional. Then i heard this was my biggest fear and jump back in for me and as soon as they could get the hoses from across the street back there and help me and it looks like all of them were saved. Was going to try to do everything i could to try to save my house with the garden hose and i didnt think anything would work but as it was burning my neighborez fence and embers were falling and we were fighting off both sides and we held it just in time for the firefighters to get up. He was saying that the neighbors did all they could to hold the fire back and then luckily the firefighters came in time to save all of their homes. All of those homes in the neighborhood were saved and no homes were burned in vallejo. So that is good news. Just so frightening for them. And the glenn co fire is still going on. And it is impacting fire now. There smoke. And it is a spare the air alert day. Well have drifts of smoke coming in. In the north bay it is unhealthy for everyone but across the bay area it is unhealthy if you have asthma or breathing problems and we do see this afternoon more smoke in the forecast. As we start out this morning, look at how chilly it is now in santa rosa. Temperatures have dropped down to 36 degrees. But then you head down to San Francisco. Big difference. It is 61 right now. It is 51 in san jose. And 46 in livermore as well as concord when the winds calm down we see the temperatures drop more easily during those Early Morning hours. But it is still pretty breezy in San Francisco and that is keeping the temperatures up. And so were seeing in now santa rosa, it is 25 degrees cooler now compared to yesterday at this time. So as we go through our hourbyhour outlook for all of our microclimates, at noontime were at 63 in livermore. It is going to be a fairly cool day. And i think because of the smoke and that usually keeps those teams down just a few more degrees. So were only reaching the upper 60s and low 70s for our high temperatures today. And then going into tonight it is really going to cool off. Were looking at widespread 40s across the bay area to start out tomorrow morning. Our gusty winds continue until 11 00 for higher elevations, for the north bay still gusts up to 55. And then for the diablo gusts up to 45 and the high wind gusts on mt. Diablo this morning and our high fire danger and the red flag warning will end at 11 00. As we look at our wind forecast, we have the small break of the winds calming down and mostly out of the north to northwest but when the winds shift later today that will carry the smoke from the kincade fire down to the rest of the bay area. So it is going to once again make it unhealthy for the rest of the day. A calm wind during the overnight hours. But then an increase in the wind starting in the north bay first and then as we go into the rest of the day, our winds will start to become really gusty, mostly nor the north bay and east bay but by wednesday morning the rest of us will have gusty winds. This is what is going on. So we had the first low and cold front that brought us the high winds yesterday. There is another one right behind that and so when you have low pressure close to High Pressure it makes the air flow from high to low pressure and then the circulation around that also creates our wind direction. So winds off shore tomorrow and picking up and then as that moves away the winds will start to calm down and throughout the rest of the week it is looking calm until we start to see another low developing by the end of the weekend. So another day of some smoke drifting in and some breezy winds to start and then the winds increase again tomorrow evening into wednesday morning. And then after that were looking good for halloween with highs the low 70s and sunshine. The weekend slightly warmer while San Francisco will have 60s all throughout the rest of the week. Mike, youre seeing that commute starting to build. We are. And the fast track lanes are building in. During karis report there was no report of metering lights but there is a crowd that needs to be metered because of the backup at the toll plaza. Now it is 5 20 time for the metering lights to be on so we have a lighter flow of traffic and we expect that. Now south of the bay bridge were looking at a typical drive and no page no major problems other than smelling the smoke across the san mateo and dumbarton bridge but vasco road just under 25 minutes, a crash at byron highway and march but not a major impact right now. But a impact out of the north bay, west 80 in the direction across the carquinez bridge which is open by the way. We have one lane in each direction reserved for fire crews. Emergency vehicles addressing the glen cove fire. And shut down the bridge yesterday. But again the bridges both open. Same thing for 101 but the the kincade Fire Evacuation area and the Power Outages so smart Train Service is canceled as well today. Back to you. Thank you, mike. I was back there with the garden hose on my hands and knees trying to save it right now at 5 30, fastmoving flames and evacuations and path of destruction left behind from the raging kincade wildfire in the north bay. Were entering day five of the fire fight and we have Live Team Coverage for you this morning. Thanks for starting with us here, im marcus washington. And im laura garcia. If you are just joining us, update on the breaking news weve been following since last wednesday night. Firefighters are working against the clock again as wind conditions are expected to taper off this morning, but then worsen later this week. At this time there are more than a dozen fires up and down our state. As weve told you, the largest is the kincade fire in the north bay. The very latest, the fire burned more than 54,000 acres and containment has dropped to 5 . 94 buildings have been destroyed. Another 80,000 are threatened by flames. Firefighters say they believe it will take until november 7th to contain the fire. There are dozens of schools shutting down today because of the smoke and Power Outages. We have a full list on nbc bay area. Com and were running them all morning long on the bottom of the screen. And when we think about the containment, a big part of that, kari, the winds. Yeah, were still seeing breezy winds. And this is one of the cameras just to the east of windsor, pepperwood west on a mountain there. Im not sure how long this camera will last because the fire is so close. But were monitoring all of the flames that are still burning out of control there and the breezy winds. As we go through the day there will be a shift in the wind and the smoke that has been blowing off shore will start to make it into the bay area by this afternoon and into the evening hours. That is going to make it unhealthy to be out there and spare the air alert has been issued. Most unhealthy air quality in the north bay and unhealthy for sensiti sensitive groups so if you have asthma or breathing problems and young and elderly should not spend a lot of time outside today so ill have more on this coming up. Mike, the commute is starting to kick in. That is right. The early commute was lighter, folks traveling longer distances because in the north bay largely affected by the fire and the smoke and then in the east bay out but outages and meters turned on the typical time. Minor incidents but no major effects on the freeway. I want to take you to the bigger effect. This one coming into the area through vallejo, west 80 is jammed up from American Canyon to the kwarkinez bridge. The note of one lane in either direction is reserved for fire crews addressing the glen cove fire and that closed the carquinez bridge yesterday but it is open for business this morning. Mean while to the north bay where the 101 open but 128 still closed to the kincade fire. Of course the huge evacuation zone. Back to you. Thank you, mike. 180,000 people have been forced to flee their homes because of the fire. Now here is a look at all of the evacuation zones right there on your screen. Sharon katsuda was just reporting the latest evacuations are in the shiloh ridge area of windsor. There are several Evacuation Centers open and they are said to be filling up quickly. Here is a list of the locations. The napa valley expo center, Sonoma County fair grounds, marin county and petaluma fair grounds and also at the saint marys cathedral in San Francisco opening at 8 00 this morning for those impacted. And the governor has declared a statewide emergency as wildfires sweep across the state. Flames have scorched tens of thousands of acres and forces hundreds of thousands to flee their homes. We report from napa at Napa Valley College with the very latest. Reporter fire is race ago cross the landscape. I can report to that you that this is still a very active fire. Reporter the kincade fire north of San Francisco is feasting on hurricaneforce winds. More than 3,000 firefighters are working to put lines around the inferno that already scorched tens of thousand pz thousandf acres. The fire is south of the Windsor Community near shiloh where we are engaged in structure defense. 2. 5 million are without power. The governor declared a statewide emergency. Weve been battling fires all up and down the state now for close to a week. Reporter mandatory evacuations have forced thousands of californians to get out of harms way. My life and his life. A persons life is more important. Reporter but some people ordered to leave dont have a destination. We knew we needed to evacuate, we had no idea where to go. The kincade fire is one of several burning across the west but conditions remain ripe for more. That was jennifer borkland reporting. Happening now in Southern California, this is a live look at the wildfire burning near the getty center in los angeles. Many people are evacuated as this fastmoving wildfire has really overcome the area. This is just west of the 405, not far from ucla and we just got the word that the fire burned 450 acres. This is after just early reports that it burned 100 acres so it is moving rapidly. This is video of knbc reporter tweeted out as he arrived on the scene. Look apt t look at the glow there. Several homes have been evacuated, including lakers star lebron james tweeting he was among the evacuees and praying for everyone in the area. The glow more than a dozen fires burning across state. And throughout the week were talking about the weather conditions and how they are fuelling the fires. Kari, down in Southern California are there high winds or wind gusts as well. Yes, the same weather system that we have that brought us the high winds still impacting parts of the region, that has moved to Southern California. And look at how high those wind gusts were yesterday. Reaching up to 93mileperhour. Just unbelievable numbers that was fanning the flames. Even mt. Saint helena had wind gusts up to 87 and in vallejo near the glen cove fire we have a wind gust and that starts up to about 56 Miles Per Hour. Walnut creek topped out at 38. And hayward getting a wind gust of 40. So we are starting to see the winds calming down but the good thing is theyve allowed the wind advisory to expire. They were going to continue it until 11 00. But now theyve decided to just drop it because the winds have gone below the criteria. But we do still have a red flag warning indicating that we do have low humidity and at times breezy winds and we have to be careful with any sparks or flames out there throughout the morning. As we look at our wind gusts and what were going to see throughout of the rest of the day, our models indicate that our winds will start to calm down. Well start to shift direction and going into this evening, that will bring in some of the smoke as we see our winds coming in from the northwest. Well see the smoke coming in from the kincade fire to the north. Mostly calm winds tonight but a Second System will come in tomorrow starting in the north bay with some high wind gusts during the afternoon and some the high winds will translate toward the east bay so ill track that and a closer look. Mike, you have a crash youre tracking. Im crashing a track im having trouble with the words. This is it. Im not sure if it is affecting 880 but chp will give update. And we do have slowing for vasco, about 25 minutes, maybe 27 minutes now coming off of the marsh creek road down to 580. A smooth drive but a crash at marsh creek and byron highway, may still be on the shoulder. Slowing unexpected because of the morning commute as well as the fact that youre restricted and slow lane has been reserved in both directions for i80 because of the glen cove fire and the fire crews traveling over there and that is in place since yesterday. Again the carquinez bridges moving smoothly. And 101 reopened up for the kincade fire but smart trains have been stopped for service. And i have a note from b. A. R. T. Coming up. It is not affecting the train schedule right now. Back to you. Good to know. Well check back with you. Our Team Coverage continues. Also ahead, the rest of the news of the day. Well talk about this smoke moving in and the winds picking up again tomorrow coming up in less than five minutes. And were just starting to see the commute build here at the richmond and san rafael bridge. And another issue for the carquinez bridge and oakland moving slowly toward the bay bridge. There may be an issue for some b. A. R. T. Riders. Take note and well have that coming up. Happening now in Southern California, this is another live look at the wildfire that is burning near the getty center in los angeles. So many people evacuated from this fire this morning. It is just west of the 405, not far from ucla. We just got word that now the fire has burned up to 450 acres so far. The l. A. Mayor Eric Garcetti said some homes have burned on the citys west side. But so far not reporting extensive losses. The fire erupted early this morning in the sepulveda pass area which is very close to interstate 405. It carries it through the Santa Monica Mountains and theyre saying to proceed with caution but so many people are evacuating from that area. It is interesting weve been following the twitter feed this is morning and even lakers star lebron james who lives near the fire zone was tweeting out he was forced to evacuate with his family and driving around looking for a place to stay. So many others near the fire zone are tweeting out some video. You could see the glow of the fire behind them. As they are trying to exit and we now how busy the 405 could get in Southern California. They are a fight. There are over a dozen fires burning across the state of california right now. A tough situation right now. Very much so. And also more breaking news. This time from sonoma. And firefighters there say that an Early Morning fire that destroyed two homes near kincade wildfire zone was set intentionally. This fire started a little after midnight at a home on napa road and east 5th street near downtown sonoma. The flames jumped to a neighboring home because resources are stretched thin right now. Firefighters had to be called in from the kincade station to help put the flames out. Both of the homes were a total loss. Just horrible. Breaking news. More this time in the east bay. In the meantime weve been keeping an eye on the kincade fire and the smoke that has been coming out of that. This is a look at our view from satellite. And you could see it is going directly off toward the southwest and off the coast. Most of us havent had the drifts of smoke yet. But as we take a closer look, look at how thick it was yesterday. As it moved over windsor as well as geyserville and some of the areas that were trying to evacuate across northern Sonoma County yesterday because of visibility so low in this area. They had to close a section of highway 101. So now as we see our winds calming down, we are not seeing as much in the way of smoke coming into the bay area. But we will see a shift today in the direction and that will bring it down into parts of the north bay later on this morning as well as into the San Francisco area, the peninsula, the east bay will have smoke coming in later on this afternoon. So as you get out today, were trying to spare the air. Maybe catch the Public Transit if you can. As you make your way out to the dublin b. A. R. T. Station, it is in the low 40s so a heavier jacket needed throughout the day. Maybe long sleeves as temperatures only reach the upper 60s and low 70s. Up to 73 in livermore. San jose will see a high of 73. Upper 60s for oakland and San Francisco with low 70s in the north bay. Lets talk about our next wind event coming in. Calm winds today for the most part. A little bit breezy going into the evening but then tonight winds at about five to ten Miles Per Hour. Going into tomorrow, our winds coming in from the northwest will start in the north bay. Starting to increase by early afternoon. And here we go with high winds once again that could fan the flames. Mainly moving in Different Directions into tomorrow night were going to see those winds gusting in the north bay as well as the east bay and then start to calm down again. But the reason why is that were seeing another area of low pressure that is going to drop in by tomorrow night. So this is the one that brought us the high winds yesterday. This next one right behind that is also feeding off of the fact that we have High Pressure to our west. And when you have High Pressure and low pressure close by, it makes those winds really rush across the bay area moving fairly quickly so into the end of the week the storm systems move away and well be left with High Pressure for several days that will allow our temperatures to warm up and our winds to calm down. So we look at drifts of smoke and gusty winds tomorrow. Then on wednesday the winds will gradually decrease and halloween is looking good and highs in the low 70s and upper 70s for the weekend. Mike youre starting with a note for b. A. R. T. Riders. That is right. The schedule still moving smoothly but because of power interruptions these three stations, rock ridge and orinda and others dont have escalator but they do have Elevator Service and a. D. A. Will be satisfied over there. And to the smart trains, not satisfied for anyone because there are no smart trains running and power interruption and signal is a prime concern. Highway 101 reopened yesterday and that is accessible but 128 still closed. Kincade fire winds the latest update as fire traveling south and west. A huge evacuation zone. High winds fuelling the flames in Northern California are also in Southern California fanning the flames. Mt. Saint Marys University has been evacuated as well and were hearing and even seeing that several homes in that area, highprofile homes like that of lebron james, hes been evacuated and set to be driving around trying to find a place for his family to go and we dont know about Evacuation Centers there but quite the fire burning this morning. They were already doing some aerial assaults, doing some water drops early this morning. Which is interesting because usually they wait until daylight. Chris chmura joins us with helpful tips to help everyone acted by the fire try to move forward. So what do you do right now . Really depends on your situation. So lets run through a couple different scenarios. Your home is damaged or evacuates. If your home has been damaged. Hopefully there are few in this camp but we know there are some. Call your Insurance Agent and start the process of a claim. It is incumbent upon you to get that moving as quickly as possible. If you are able to access your home, take photos of the condition right away. And if you need to make emergency repairs, go right ahead and do that. But dont do anything more. Dont start to try to repair the home. Insurance agents like to see and the adjustors who come with them like to see the property exactly it was damaged. Again only emergency repairs. So lets say that you have evacuated. And youre wondering what going on with your home. Go ahead and call your Insurance Company and let them know about the evacuation. Also ask about expenses that you incur during the evacuation. Some insurance policies will help you with that. With food, gas, lodging, et cetera. If they do, make sure you keep your receipt that way you get full reimbursement. So folks who are still at home. Here is what you should be doing now. Some of this is selfexplanatory but go over it any way. Check or make sure you have a go bag. If you have one, make sure it has everything you need for the next couple of days. If you dont, make your go bag right now. Think about what you would need the next couple of days to sustain yourself. Were talking food, water, prescriptions, stuff about your pets, those are the sorts of things you need to have in your go bag. And charge your cell phone. Get it charged in case the power goes out and that way you could keep abreast of what is happening around the area. Also know your escape route. Figure out now how you would leave your home, actually leave the home itself, also how to leave your neighborhood if someone came to the door and said youve got to get out right now. Think that through. And also come up with a plan b because sometimes roads are blocked. Dont think you will count on gps. We learned two years ago when the power goes out, the cell towers go out and that means gps is useless. So figure this out right now. Figure it out with a plan a and a plan b. And this is the most important part of it all, just keep yourself informed. Try to plan all of this out to the best of your ability that way there are no surprises and you are as safe as possible. Back to you. I can report this is still an active fire. A persons life we needed to evacuate. We had no idea where to go. Right now at 6 00, a state of emergency.
