[ laughter ] gop senator john cornyn today said, he will not Pay Attention to attempts by House Democrats to impeach President Trump, because he is, quote, doing important things. Okay, but doing important things is definitely what you say when youre not doing important things [ laughter ] dont come in the bathroom. Im doing important things in here [ cheers and applause youll ruin the importance. Two associates of Rudy Giuliani appeared in court today in connection to charges that they violated champaign finance law guilty, said their faces [ laughter ] Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg has been awarded a 1 million prize for her work in promoting gender equality even cooler, what she spent it on [ laughter and applause according to politico, the ceo of Dicks Sporting Goods is considering launching a third Party President ial run coincidentally, the ceo of dicks is also what they Call Senate Majority Leader mitch mcconnell. That he never pays a political price for anything and that nothing can ever hurt him. People call him teflon don. But, he doesnt look like teflon its more like someone made a beanbag chair out of old pumpkins [ laughter ] of course, the reality has always been that trump is deeply unpopular among a majority of americans. Its just that were clinging to an Antiquated Electoral College system that lets like five states decide the election and often gives the presidency to whoever gets the second most votes. Nothing else in the world works like that. Just imagine how bad jeopardy would be if whoever got the lowest score was invited back the next day [ laughter ] okay, donald, you got negative 1,000. [ light laughter ] but, still it really feels, like were seeing a potentially Major Political shift happen right now with impeachment a new cnn poll yesterday found that the highest number yet, a full 50 of americans, want the president , not just impeached, but removed from Office Altogether just out this morning, a brand new cnn poll finds public support for impeaching and removing President Trump from office on the rise heres that numeric high. 50 half the country in this poll should trump be impeached and removed from office 50 say yes. 43 say no take a look at this over time and youll see that its the High Water Mark. Seth hey, youve got to give it to trump, this is definitely the first time in is his life hes ever hit a High Water Mark. [ laughter ] trump spent most of his life at the low water mark which makes sense, because he does kind of look like something you would find on the beach after the tide goes out. His staff probably had to edit the clip on his dvr and hope he didnt notice. A brand new cnn poll finds public support for President Trump on the rise. Take a look at this its the High Water Mark 50 support trump [ laughter ] seth i dont know why everyone is jumping at this poll its great. [ cheers and applause so trumps political position is eroding quickly and were even starting to see small cracks in the support among republicans. Retiring florida congressman Francis Rooney said, he wouldnt rule out for voting for impeachment. And utah senator mitt romney said this about trumps quid pro quo with ukraine on sunday we certainly cant have president s asking Foreign Countries to provide something of political value that is, after all, against the law. Seth yeah, it is and i cant believe that even has to be said its like if you were doing 120 on the highway while snorting cocaine, drinking tequila, and mooning other drivers. And a cop pulled you over and said, public nudity, after all, is against the law. [ laughter ] of course, after romney made those comments, trump who demands absolute loyalty from everyone lashed out at him on monday, suggesting that democrats were better at sticking together. I think the democrats fight dirty. But two things they have, theyre vicious and they stick together they dont have mitt romney in their midst. They dont have people like that seth all right, first of all, the idea that democrats dont disagree with each other is insane. [ laughter ] i mean, the difference is that when democrats argue they have productive disagreements over things like how to provide healthcare to everyone or how to address institutional racism when republicans argue, its like the end of a botched bank robbery, where everyone is pointing guns at each other screaming, whos the ride are you the ride im not the oh, were so [ bleep ] [ laughter ] thats why trump is lashing out in increasingly deranged ways, because he doesnt have an actual defense he and his aides have already confessed to the crimes in question the facts have been so brutal for trump and his team that in less than a month, they went from this there was no quid pro quo seth to this what exactly did you hope zelensky would do about the bidens after your phone call exactly well, i would think that if they were honest about it, theyd start a Major Investigation into the bidens. Seth to this so the dend for an investigation into the democrats was part of the reason that he it was to withhold funding to ukraine. The look back to what happened in 2016 certainly was part of the thing that he was worried about in corruption with that nation. And that is absolutely appropriate. Withholding the funding yeah. Lets be clear, what you just described a quid pro quo it is funding will not flow unless the investigation into the democratic server happened as well. We do we do that all the time [ light laughter ] seth all right, first of all first of all, i love mulvaneys face right there when the reporter said, what you just described is a quid pro quo. Which makes sense, since trump himself looks like he should be third from the right on one of the Human Evolution charts [ laughter ] i mean, thats why he is more comfortable crawling like a sea turtle who just buried his golf balls in the stand [ light laughter ] whenever he stands upright, his Center Gravity shifts forward, like a baby standing up in his crib [ laughter ] and he even holds [ applause ] [ cheers ] he even holds his hands out, like hes waiting for an adult to steer him while he walks. [ laughter ] in fact, republicans are flailing so badly in their attempts to actually defend what trump did with ukraine, that rather that mount an actual defense, theyve decided instead to resort to dumb stunts to shut down the inquiry altogether. Like, today when a group of republicans barged into a house deposition in the secure room and refused to leave we start with a bizarre turn on capitol hill, when as many as two dozen House Republicans upset over the impeachment inquiry stormed a secure hearing room republicans physically got in the faces of the democrats to protest these proceedings. A wild scene in washington today, when two dozen house conservatives stormed the impeachment hearing room in protest and refused to leave seth these guys are truly so dumb i mean, look at this group of angry weirdos at their press conference this morning announcing they were going to storm the hearing room i havent seen a group of white guys that angry since they found out their don henley tickets were obstructed view [ laughter ] looks like a protest outside a pharmacy that ran out of viagra. [ laughter ] [ applause ] and they shouldnt be at the capitol. They should be standing at the counter at a mcdonalds demanding to see the manager [ laughter ] and even while trump and his team are confessing on tv, democrats in the house are still gathering evidence as part of the impeachment inquiry. Yesterday, the top u. S. Diplomat in ukraine, bill taylor, testified that there was in fact an explicit quid pro quo in which trump held up hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to ukraine in exchange for a pledge to investigate his political rivals according to reports, taylors Opening Statement was 15 pages long and prompted a lot of sighs and gasps. And unless youre reading aloud from your book of erotica that, is not good. [ laughter ] as a general rule, it is never good to hear sighs or gasps. It never means you are innocent. [ light laughter ] and there are only two reasons why room full of people gasp when someone makes a shocking accusation in court. Or when you and your buddies are watching a supercut of skate board fails. [ laughter ] oh, damn. Rudy tried to do an ollie and got the skateboard wedged up his ass. [ laughter ] people in the room called taylors testimony disturbing and said he drew a direct line between President Trumps withholding of aid for ukraine and his demand for investigation into joe biden and the democrats. And taylor, reportedly backed up all of his assertions with detailed notes and evidence. He is backing up himself in this case, taylor is, with an Opening Statement that im told relies on meticulous notes this is apparently a lifelong habit of his to take meticulous notes about meetings and phone calls in which he was a participant. So, taylor perhaps more than any other witness, has come with his own paper trail in place a 15page Opening Statement. Seth 15 pages. The only good news for trump is there is no way hes capable of reading a 15page document [ laughter ] i doubtrump ever made it all the way through a snapple cap. [ laughter ] a ducks quack does not somebody else read the rest of this for me. [ laughter ] and then summarize it for me in a memo. [ laughter ] also, no phrase has ever been more terrifying for a guy like trump, than the words paper trail. Hes new york City Real Estate developer and casino owner who cheats on his taxes. The only paper trail hes ever kept is the toilet paper on the bottom of his shoe [ laughter ] [ cheers and applaus trump has always thought of himself as untouchable, but now he is finally facing real consequences support for impeachment is rising in the polls. More and more people are coming to the conclusion that you cant just subvert the entirety of American Foreign policy to your personal political will. And dangle hundreds of millions of dollars as part of a corrupt quid pro quo to investigate your political rivals because, to put it mildly that is, after all, against the law. I mean, i love the Development Process with the writers and, you know, understanding the character before you ever step on set. You actually you have such a voice and its such a Collaborative Experience and for as an artist, for me its the best thing. I love it, i love it so much seth well, its nice too, because then, you know, the opposite, obviously and there are Great Projects but you walk into it and sort of right off the bat are kind of figuring out, sometimes even day one. So its nice to have months and months to prepare for it absolutely, because by the time you get to the end of the project you go, oh, i get it now. Seth yeah. I know what this is. And theyre like, and its a wrap. [ laughter ] seth yeah. And the wrap party. Youre like, argh. Seth you did as a producer you got to choose the hair you had a say in the hair. Yes seth do you like are we happy with the wig you ended up with for your character . I love it seth yeah. I think its super cool its fun to have that, you know, discussion with your director, and your other producers, and everybody about the look, about the wardrobe i mean, this hair specifically interestingly enough, our director rebecca thomas, she was really interested in this character being like really, you know, face to the world. No fringe. No hair in the face. Just, like, open face and a vulnerable neck seth oh, wow was what she really wanted. I loved that detail seth yeah, i so much [ laughter ] i was like, we must have a vulnerable neck. Seth we were and i think during the clip, we were all thinking that. Like that [ laughter ] right you were, i know seth that is a vulnerable neck look at that neck [ laughter ] seth you this is so this is based on a fictional podcast an actual podcast. Right seth the podcast isnt fiction, but it is right seth its sort of a bit of a narrative story that did not really happen. But its sort of right seth true crimey. Seth its like well, kids with sticks are basically, especially boys, theyre like, i dont think were going to beat this, guys. Yeah. Seth and then what about skiing cause your your sons a year older than mine. Were talking about, is this the winter we get him up on skis have you tried yes we tried, i think too early. Seth okay. He was two. Seth yeah. Or two and a half seth i mean, ive seen ive seen videos of two and half year olds yeah, so have i seth enjoying it not my kid. Seth yeah. Right, right [ laughter ] my kid, he just he was just like, what is this . Seth yeah. And then you put the skis on and he was like, really . Seth yeah. Right . [ laughter ] seriously seth yeah. I cant even move in this giant im covered in down seth right [ laughter ] i mean, he was not excited about it seth and i do feel like if you have a bad First Experience with something, that will set you back a decade. Yeah, im worried seth yeah. Im a little worried about mine, too. But of course, the only i hate skiing. You do . Seth so yeah, i really do, and i grew up in a skiing family why do you hate it . Seth its just like, i get it you know [ laughter ] you go down seth yeah. You go up seth and its like, all right. You go back down. Seth so theres a place and that building over there a fire right . Seth ennis ennis jimmy ennis. How did you guys come up with the name ennis it was one of the few names that we both really liked. Its also a town in texas. Its the state flower is a blue bonnet. She got a star on the walk of fame and here you and her child, ennis, on the star [ audience aws ] yes seth thats fantastic. This was before we arrived at the ceremony i think the grandparents all plotted and just threw him on the star seth oh, got you so you dont think they would have actually allowed this, the good star people oh, no. We wouldnt have allowed it. [ laughter ] seth oh, i got you but the grandparents were in charge before we got there seth i see so its really not up to you anymore. No. But its a great picture seth you know, obviously, both of his parents are in show business you your parents were not, right . No. Seth and yet, your first commercial you were two and a half years old i was, a cocacola commercial seth and it was something you liked though, yeah you were in texas, and you would kind of go back and forth to l. A. , right . I did enjoy it. I mean, i think thats my first memory, the cocacola commercial just pounding cocacola with all these giants around me [ laughter ] seth that would be a thing that would be would make a memory, for sure yeah, yeah. Seth and then, this is very exciting, where you did this breaking bad movie and it was great i think for people like me, who are huge fans of the show, to get another taste. Shrouded in secrecy this whole thing. Yes seth not only that it was happening, but that there would be characters like yourself in it who had died. So thats a breaking bad spoiler alert. Not a [ light laughter ] and im sorry, were all gutted about it i mean, you were a bad guy on the show but it was still really sad to see you die. It was really sad seth yeah, it was really sad. [ laughter ] it really was very sad. Seth when you, the worst guy in the world died, i was super sad. I know. [ laughter ] i know seth is it hard when youre working on a project like this and you have to you know, everybodys told you this is a secret, you cant tell anybody what were doing it was really strange at the beginning to just flat out lie to strangers repeatedly. And then, you kind of get used to it. [ laughter ] it started to become more and more fun, i have to say. [ light laughter ] just like, nope, not me im not in that. Seth because youre youre filming it in albuquerque, a town that is now, i mean, famous for breaking bad. I mean, famous for a lot of things but they mustve immediately anybody saw you, mustve been like, oh, if hes here, it must be for this. So it was actually hard to lie about it, right . I have no idea how it didnt surface. Because there was one day in particular where we were filming in downtown albuquerque. Driving around in todds car jesse was in the passenger seat. I know there was a guy that was like, oh, [ bleep ] thats todd. [ laughter ] and people were filming and somehow, i guess it just didnt get traction online or something. Seth it was nice it was a fun surprise. It was great, yeah. Seth i do want to point out, because youre such a lovely person in real life. You have really crushed some sociopaths over the years. [ light laughter ] thanks. Seth and a lot of your characters have had to even the ones that were good guys, like in fargo or even landry in friday night lights. There is a lot of body disposal. Have you noticed that . That youve played [ light laughter ] youve played a lot of characters, you have i have . Seth jesse, youve played a lot of people who kill people, and then, want to get rid of the body [ laughter ] i dont remember that seth you dont remember that no. Seth all you remember is that [ bleep ] coke commercial [ laughter ] [ applause ] i do, youre right. Youre right, yeah seth i remember seeing that. It was a two and a halfyearold drank a coke, and was like, we got to get rid of this body. [ laughter ] all right, enough with the cokes. We got to get rid of this dead guy. I dont know why thats i dont know why im the goto guy seth yeah. For that job. Seth this is also really exciting ive heard great things. I havent seen it yet. Martin scorseses irishman movie. So you talk about pressure. Youre working with people like de niro, pacino. And not just in scenes with them, youre actually driving a car in a scene where they were in the backseat. And not like movie you were driving, driving that was i mean this scene that youre talking about, we shot throughout the course of the entire movie but the first bit of this scene, you know, i show up and, you know, you read it on page, and you think, okay. Yeah, youre driving the car but then, when you have de niro and pacino in tow i mean, i was probably only going about, you know, 30 miles an hour tops but youve got two National Treasures [ laughter ] that youre responsible for. Seth yeah. Its pretty nerveracking seth and if that if there is a terrible accident and you guys all die, youre like third paragraph in that story. [ laughter ] yeah, or if i survive seth oh, if you survive, its even worse, yeah. Yeah. [ laughter ] seth did you was i mean, working with legends like that, i mean, must have so many benefits was there down time on set where you got to talk to them and get to, you know, i dont know, like their wisdom i tried to be as respectful as possible. You know, i think the biggest lesson was just sitting back and watching and listening my conversation with de niro mainly consisted of talking about trump. cause on my end seth hes not very shy about his feelings no. So i would just kind of throw that out there [ laughter ] seth just to get him going and then were friends all of a sudden [ light laughter ] seth very wise very wise. Yeah when somebodys going to give you an in, youve got to take it yeah. But no, it was an experience of a lifetime seth i cannot wait to see it and it is always such a pleasure to see you thank you so much for being here thank you, seth seth jesse plemons, everybody. [ light laughter ] if you asked me when i was 10 years old how much i thought crab legs cost based on my fathers behavior [ light laughter ] i would be like, 80,000 . [ laughter ] infinity maybe hes never even allowed the thought. Did anybody have you ever gone out to eat gone out to eat with your parents, and theyre like, dont even think about the back half of the menu were an appetizer family. You want a soda . Bring it [ light laughter ] thats where they make the money. Dont applaud that behavior. [ laughter ] my dad was so cheap, as a child i was embarrassed. But now looking back as an adult, im like, that took courage. He stood in the face of a lot of adversity and was like, i will not pay full price for this buffet. [ laughter ] he went to Great Lengths he never once paid for a Movie Theater treat. Not once in his life thats hard. Itd be june in iowa thats like 108 degrees. Thats very hot. And he would still put on a giant winter coat [ light laughter ] and pack it to the gills and then clink around the Movie Theater. [ light laughter ] just up to the ticket woman and be like five please. Put the tickets there. Hed just clink down to the aisle. And hed sit down and hed act like he just pulled off a Big Bank Heist hes like, yeah. [ laughter and applause and then hed pull cans of soda out of his sleeve. Hed be like, pass them down.
