The south bay, so ill have more on this and well talk about the fire danger coming up, and mike, youve got a lot of work going on overnight. Thats typical. No surprises. We have a little slowing, blips 680 north, vargas and fremont and along the peninsula. Tuesday also brings more traffic usually as far as the volume goes around the bay, a lot of companies ive ever worked for have the big business meetings on tuesday. I think folks come into town on monday if they happen to be traveling. If youre traveling through the north bay, a smooth, easy drive around the bay. You saw all the green sensors. No problems here through san rafael but sometimes we get breezy conditions and i think thats part of our big story. Guys, back to you. Thats right, it is developing this morning, mike, preparation and planning across the bay area for possible rolling Power Outages, and pg e warns it could mean days without electricity. It is possible hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses could be affected by this and the power shutoffs are coinciding with what was one of the most destructive firestorms in california history. Today in the bays pete suratos live in santa rosa where the tubbs fire destroyed so many homes two years ago and pete weve come a long way but its still scary dealing with conditions we have every day here. Reporter yes, no doubt about it. Good morning to you, marcus and laura. As you guys mentioned, it marks the second anniversary of the north bay wildfires. Were standing in coffey park in santa rosa, this was one of the hardest hit areas by those wildfires. Of course, its a different scene behind me right now, but here is what the scene looked like a couple of years ago, after those wildfires. Homes completely devastated as a result of those wildfires and its taken years to rebuild this area. But following these fires, power lines have been a focus when it comes to overall fire prevention, not only here in santa rosa but really across the bay area, and its why were seeing pg e conduct what they call the power shutoffs starting this week. We want to show our viewers a map of the areas, that will be affected by the shutoffs. You can see several counties there, including contra costa county, san mateo, solano, santa clara and sonoma county. Parts of napa county will be impacted. Here is what residents in that area are saying about the shutoffs. Havent been doing anything about it. Letting it come and hoping that everything stands up okay, i guess. If i have to run stuff, ive got an inverter in my car i can run some electricity for a little while. Reporter now shutoffs in those areas the napa county area can happen as early as 1 00 a. M. Vary depending onarea. We have all the information on our webs live in santa rosa. Ss. Pete suratos for today in the bay. Pete, thank you. There are some things you can do at home to get together. Kris sanchez put together a quick guide for us when it happened last month. Hi there, laura. This is all the stuff that youre already supposed to have ready in your earthquake preparedness kit, so i know that you already have this together but in case you need a refresher, lets start here. We have to have enough food and nonperishable goods for a weeks time, about a gallon of water per person in the family, all nonperishable goods that your kids will eat and dont forget something to open that with, that would be a bummer to have the canned goods and not get in. If you have a pet, make sure you have something for your pet as well. Make sure that your phone is fully charged, if you backup battery, you want to have that charged as well. Any medication that you need and basic first aid kit, bactene and bandai bandaids, if you have medications that you have to take every day, make sure you set some of those aside. Also make sure that you have your flash lights ready to go, and extra batteries as well, because you dont know how long that power is going to be out. Family documents, anything necessary, insurance cards, copies of things that you can just put into an envelope and have that ready to go and cash is king and our advice is always to have small bills so that if you go someplace, a Convenience Store that has no power, you have a 20 bill, suddenly something that costs you 2 will cost you 20 because there is no change. So that is part of the advice. We dont know how long the power will remain out but it could be up to a weeks time is what theyre suggesting you be prepared for and also you can find this emergency checklist that you can print off, its pretty kidfriendly so you can get the kids in on that preparation list. O ourcourse we have much more website, including a tool to find out if your address is in the potential outage zone, thats at nbcbayarea. Com. 35w. Coming up on today in the bay, back to the coverage of the fire danger and possible Power Outages. Kari hall is tracking the forecast for us today. Well watch out for that for tomorrow. Today we look at some clear skies and a look outside in walnut creek, well see our temperatures go from the mid50s to the mid70s by 11 00, and it will be another warm day. Well talk about when we expect that high fire danger, thats coming up next. And the flag over here in fremont, pretty calm right now. Were up to 88 in two spots, reaching close to 90 degrees. Well see temperatures down significantly compared to yesterday, as the winds pick up from the north. Half moon bay reaching 65 degrees today, in redwood city reaching 72. San francisco mostly in the 60s, and a few low 70s, and the north bay reaching up to about 85 in napa, and 83 in on. We are going to have some very dry air coming in, and as it moves in from the northeast, it will also continue to increase and increase our fire danger for tomorrow. So starting tomorrow morning at 5 00, for our north bay as well as the east bay hills and now included in that will be the santa cruz mountains, as this dry air descends and moves across the Central Valley into the bay area, the humidity will continue to drop, so we are under a red flag warning for all of these areas shaded in red, starting out tomorrow morning and continuing through thursday afternoon. Were also concerned about the potential that pg e will turn off the power in some of these areas, and this comes from their website, so well look at this a little bit more closely in the next half hour, as we talk about the dry conditions. Our temperatures actually dropping, were going from 86 today to 78 tomorrow, then some low 80s f of the week. The weekend looking nice as some seasonable weather comes back to the bay area, and then were looking at some gusty winds, especially early on thursday. Nothing surprising on the approach. As far as the maze goes, were also looking over here. Contra costa county looks great. Overnight through november 4th, until they finish that construction project there, from 11 00 p. M. To 3 00 a. M. , there will be a full closure of highway 37 through the area, where we typically see fixed up and raised up before the rain e traffic breaks south 101 through the curves, we typically show you in san rafael, i havent seen any problems, theres reports of a crash there, but a live camera didnt show any slowing.
