Thats the traditional time you see, san leandro down toward union city. Thats probably the worst of the slowing we see here on our freeways. A nice drive for the south bay, getting toward the bay bridge, you have a nice drive down here, i saw some low clouds drifting through this shot but maybe some fog at the Golden Gate Bridge and backup at the toll plaza. Back to you. Thanks, mike. 6 01 right now the ingredients for wildfires coming together, power power shutoffs for tens of thousands of people. Thom jensen is live in sonoma with what residents need to know right now. Good morning, thom. Good morning. Nine counties now affected by these potential mandatory shutoffs. Pg e adding Sonoma County and napa county, the list of counties that could face mandatory shutoffs as early as this evening. Theyll be announcing later this morning possibly this comes after the National Weather service announced red flag fire weather warnings across the north bay and east bay hills, dry north winds, low humidity and increasingly high winds Tuesday Morning and those high daytime temperatures creating a lot of concerns. It would affect 33,500 customers here in Sonoma County, nearly 13,000 in lake county and 10,500 pg e customers in napa county. No definite shutoffs have been announced but pg e says it expects the risk to increase, beginning around 8 00 tonight as the wind gusts start to pick up and the company says its closely monitoring the Weather Forecast before making a final decision on mandatory shutoffs. Gusty winds and dry conditions combined with the high fire risk threaten a portion of the electric system and theres no single factor. Reporter these are not mandatory shutoffs right now but pg e announced it could make that decision as early as late this morning, if they do go in effect they likely will today certainlyat. Thank you, thom. Were talking about the warmer temperatures, heat advisories and the wind is going to be an issue, too. Thats going to be the issue and these areas if youre looking at the map were showing here in the areas shaded in red, thats where we will have the concern of low humidity and high winds. Lets go through this hour by hour, starting at 9 00 when the red flag warning starts and as we go toward midnight, look at clearlake, winds coming in at about 20 miles per hour, and its mostly for these higher elevations, where we wont see the wind mixing down into the valleys, but any elevations above 1,000 feet is where we could see the winds gusting at about 30 to possibly 40 miles per hour, and thats the reason why they do have those concerns about the power issues, and some of the things that may spark a wildfire that could grow and create aspad quickly. So its mostly going into the next couple of days, along with these really hot temperatures for the inland areas. So ill have more on this and the rest of the forecast coming up in a few minutes. All right, thank you, 6 04 for you right now. Today were hearing from channel miller, the secxual assault survivor whose impact statement went viral, even on the floor of congress. Right now taking a live look in San Francisco where a foggy start to the day, but it is the first day of fall. It is, certainly not going to feel like it. In fact, an increase fire danger as well, very concerned about this one, kari. Especially as our temperatures heat up, so winds pick up and the humidity drops. That all starts late tonight, and continues throughout the day tomorrow. Were starting out with some clouds this morning, with a live look outside in san jose, and a nice cool one in campbell. Well be in the upper 50s as you get ready to head out the door. It will be a little bit warmer today, compared to yesterday, and were definitely going above where we should be with were reaching up to 86 today in san jose, palo alto up to 85 and 91 today in antioch. In napa today expect a high of 86 and 92 in clearlake. We are going to see some much hotter temperatures in the forecast tomorrow. Ill have more on that in a few minutes. Mike, now you have a new crash in walnut creek. I do, kari, thats the concern. The standard backup at the bay bridge toll plaza, were aware of that build there, not bad for a monday. Over here highway 4 feeds down to 680 southbound, and in that commute direction, around north main, word of a crash involving a motorcycle, sounds like the rider was able to get up and start Walking Around right away but theres some debris so your left lanes may be affected, thats a tough time. Theres a build in contra costa county. A smoother drive south 680 through pleasanton and 880 south past the san mateo bridge and good news for that drive for those planning on taking the san mateo bridge, that crash did just clear minutes ago from that approach toward the toll plaza. There say crash hayward city streets not affecting the freeway but it may affect your onramp if youre coming over perhaps from over to the right side. Its in the service area but it may be a distraction getting over toward the bay bridge were still under 20 minutes for the upper east shore freeway. Back to you. Thanks, mike. Good monday morning right now at 6 14, lets get you out the door a live look in palo alto. As the sun comes up, mostly clear skies and a cool start to the day. Upper 50s as you head out the door. As you go through the day it will warm up, 78 degrees at 1 00. Our inland valleys will feel that heat the most today and the next couple of days. Well lack at our fire danger in less than five minutes. Were looking over here a problem for southbound 680, a motorcycle involved crash blocking two left lanes, that is jamming you up just continuing to build out of pittsburg, bay point, concord and walnut creek interchange. Typical backup at the maze. Well track the whole build. Good morning, im Frank Holland at cnbc global headquarters. Here are todays top business headlines. Slightly lower this morning. Youre going to need some shade today, i think. Its going to be really hot and the next couple of days lh n only the heat but a high fire danger. I wanted to get you started on this monday morning with the refreshing shot over San Francisco. Take a look at that. You can see kind of like the city lights poking through the clouds and then sunrise over the horizon. In San Francisco you cant see much of this, it looks cloudy. Were going above that. As you get ready to head out for your drive in brented would, we have some low 60s for our temperatures and mostly clear skies, leading into the mid 80s by early this afternoon and check out that sevenday forecast at the bottom of the screen, it is going to be really hot these next couple of days. We start to feel that warmth picking up today, with some upper 80s and low 90s in the south bay, with morgan hill reaching 92 degrees, also see some low 90s in the inland east bay with pleasanton topping out at 90, while oakland will see a high of 80 degrees today. Well see some mid 80s on the peninsula in redwood city while daly city will reach up to 72 degrees. Mostly some mid70s for San Francisco, with a breezy westerly wind, and for the north bay, expect upper 80s and low 90s, clearlake today reaching n degrees. So were concerned about the high fire danger for today and tomorrow, and here is the reason why. As High Pressure builds, well start to see our winds turning more offshore, and its going to be very low in terms of the humidity, as well as the winds picking up in some of our hills above 1,000 feet, up to 30 to 40 miles per hour, maybe higher in a few spots. We will have the high fire risk continuing through wednesday, and then once this High Pressure starts to make its way off towards the east, our winds will shift, an area of low pressure will drop in to the pacific northwest, and well have still those breezy winds, but also higher humidity, and also a chance of some showers possible especially for the sierra. As we go through this forecast, it is all over the place. You have to make sure you keep checking in each morning to see how our weather will shape up for today, because we have some upper 80s inland today and some of our hotter spots, upper 90s tomorrow, but then by the end of the week, our warmest temperatures will only be in the mid70s, and then even cooler for the weekend. San francisco also bracing for some high heat starting tomorrow. Mike, now you have two crashes affecting contra costa county. Thats right, kari. The first one well talk about is most visible on this map. The bay bridge toll plaza, no. We have the backup there visible because of the maze. Highway 4 feeds down toward 680 south where the first concern is over here for contra costa county, headed down into walnut creek. Concord Pleasant Hill jam off of southbound 242 because of a crash blocking one lane north main street, i think its blocking two lanes right now a motorcycle and somesoun like td condition, able to walk around. Still the debris and a tough time approaching the walnut creek interchange. Over here continued problems for vasco coming out of brentwood, discovery bay, byron, feeding down toward 580 at about 45 minutes now from marsh creek road through the area, twr we typically see slowing because it narrows down to one lane but the crash complicating things around the landfill road, vasco landfill road the official name there. Over here this crash that cleared at the san mateo bridge toll plaza, going westbound across the bay, thats your commute direction and that was good news. The bad news in the upnow, approaching 92 approaching 880, sorry, we have a new crash which may be blocking lanes or a distraction causing slowing off of hayward city streets. As we look across the bay, the peninsula side looks great. Were just seeing a build for the dumbarton bridge and the south bay no problems, good news for folks traveling through Silicon Valley right now. Getting down to the south bay, the nimitz shows the build righ scales and down past tesla and looking at the Golden Gate Bridge with a notem chp about fog, folks local here we know about the fog. Back to you. We sure do. Thanks, mike. Its 6 21 right now. Still ahead at 6 30, wrong way. Kari will continue to look at that this morning. Good morning to you. Thanks for starting your morning with us on today in the bay. Im marcus washington. And im laura garcia. Lets get straight to the forecast with kari. Its the first day of fall but not going to feel like it. It will not at all feel like fall but it is a little bit more normal for us to have the concerns about the fire danger in the inland hills. Were starting out with some clouds this morning, a live look outside in san jose as you get ready to head out the door in willow glen. Upper 50s in the forecast and that will lead into some upper 70s by early afternoon, eventually see our High Temperature downtown reach 86 degrees. 89 ivermore. It will be hotter today compared to yesterday, as we reach up to 91 in antioch. Not only that, but we will have a red flag warning that goes into effect for the north bay and east bay hills, the dry wind picks up and well have some low humidity levels, and so for that reason, with the high winds in the forecast, pg e may issue a watch regarding doing some Power Outages to reduce that threat of wildfires spreading rapidly under the gusty winds and low humidity. In a full report coming up in 15 minutes. Mike, youre starting out with a look at the san mateo bridge. Thats right, the wind is not a concern for the san mateo bridge. We are concerned about the volume of traffic which has sudd is i think with improving conditions for 92 approaching the area through hayward, those crashes both cleared on the approach to the toll plaza, its an easier flow toward the span itself. Thats all thats going on and the build for 880 there, also slowing for 680 south typical in the trivalley and east bay. Following a crash on vasco ill. I wanted to show you the jam coming out of concord, Pleasant Hill toward north main for southbound 680, so thats just shy of the walnut creek interchange, keeping the interchange itself lighter flow but jamming up this portion of contra costa county. The bay bridge of course has your metering lights on as well. Laura, back to you. All right, you saw this earlier, take a look, though, new video to show you, a tesla going the wrong way on i80, from San Francisco into oakland, it happened early this morning. Were told the man is charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and of course wrongway driving. Luckily no one was injured. Absolutely. 6 32 right now. The city first noticed it was having i. T. Problems friday night it became more serious into saturday morning. This raises concerns that there was some sort of targeted attack, like weve seen at other agencies, including School Systems in the bay area, but union city workers say theyre still trying to figure out who might have been behind this. The Police Department email as i mentioned, the servers are down but the Emergency Services are still up and running, that means 911 works and thats in part because the city of union city contracts with fremonts 911 dispatch services, so again if you call 911 emergency units will respond here in union city. Another warm day on tap for us. It gets even hotter over the next couple of days, unfortunately, and then the winds will start to pick up, with the humidity dropping, so all of those things combined with a lot of dry fuels will raise our concerns about t wildfire danger. As we get started this morning, we do see some higher humidity, now some clouds rolling by. Its a cloudy start as we take a live look outside in san jose and as you get ready to head out for school this morning, its a cool start, make sure you have that jacket, along with some short sleeves for the afternoon as our temperatures go from the upper 50s to the upper 70s by the end of the school day. Were going to continue to see High Pressure moving in, thats what creates these hot continues, as the winds around that High Pressure flow clockwise and its going to make our winds blow offshore, so were not getting our cool ocean breezes and higher humidity, but that will start to subside as we go throughout the week, as low pressure moves in. Well see its counterclockwise winds bring in northerly conditions. Northerly winds, cooler air and ne few days. Ity, so big well reach into the upper 80s in some of the warmer spots and upper 90s tomorrow. More dangerous heat continuing on wednesday, and then cooling off for the rest of the week. It is, kari, west 92 is what were talking about, the san mateo bridge, where from time to time i see looks like its going to creep to a stop, and then it starts to move better again. So just sort of the waves of traffic traveling westbound across toward the peninsula. This is not really unusual. We did have a few crashes on the approach to the span but things are back close to the speed li 92 approaching off of hayward city streets. We have a build, a lot of folks use the dumbarton bridge slowing bayfront expressway to marsh northbound 101, watch for that route. The south bay continues its gentle push from san jose pushing into the rest of Silicon Valley. This is willow getting toward 101. The onramp is open but the signals in the area you might see some flashing lights for watch for traffic traffic control. Highway 4 started to move better in through bay point and concord. The crash in walnut creek cleared from north main, more traffic south toward danville and alamo and west a little approaching that caldecott tunnel. Crash east shore freeway around central. Sounded like lanes are clear but well track that critical portion of the east shore freeway. Getting through b. A. R. T. Thats no delay and less options to avoid the backups on thetas sur.
