Theres mist and drizzle this morning. This is complicated by this crash on 680. Roz has been out there for hours. Whats going on . Reporter weve made our way a little closer to where this accident happened. In the distance there those flashing lights is where the big rig jackknifed and where the fuel spill is. Were going into hour four now. This happened around 2 00 this morning. People have been stuck in traffic. You can see traffic is moving fine on 680 south. All lanes still blocked on 4680 north. Weve been here for two hours. Folks are trying to get to work. We spoke with an uber driver who has been driving all night and is trying to get home. Hes been sitting here for three hours. All lanes blocked. Were told there is a fuel spill, a hazmat situation. That will take a while for them to get it cleaned up. As soon as we can get closer and show you better whats happening well do that. Mike, back to you. Thank you, roz. Its a m its a hazmat situation. They have to clean up fuel from the big rig. Anything is an issue, a distraction for the southbound side may have folks hit the brakes harder. Be careful. North 101 you have this one section from 680 where we have slow driving as well. There have been a couple crashes. As you look at the bay bridge, earlier we had water on the lens. Now we have just a sheen. You see the damp roadway and a little bit of puddling. That may be a factor since we havent had rain for quite sometime. It has been a while that weve had rain. This is not a really big system, but its dropping light rain and the first measurable rain weve seen in months. We see it moving through parts of central Sonoma County as well as napa county. Well see that approaching the Golden Gate Bridge within the next few minutes. Weve seen showers affecting the roadways, making it damp to start this morning. As we go throughout the rest of the day that line of showers we have been seeing, but it will be clearing out toward the afternoon. We have nicer weather later today. Ill talk more about this and whats ahead for the rest of the week. Thank you, kari. This is a life look at allen rock where there was a deadly shooting. Rest gators are on the scene. First responders found a man in the road and couldnt save him. Deputies say he died at the scene. Investigators say the suspect may be driving a dark colored suv. Were still waiting to find the identity of a man killed in a fire at an Adult Entertainment story. Authorities say a man possibly armed entered that store and started to set fires. Once firefighters put out the flames they discovered a body. Investigators say the man who triggered the chaos was either a disgruntled customer or former employee. He had been told to leave. The flames spread forcing people on the second floor to evacuate. They went in and there was smoke just pouring out. It was solid fire. Little bit scary because you never know how fast it will spread. Now its still not clear if police apprehended a suspect. Police woentd say how the person found dead may be connected to the incident. Police believe no shots were fired. Firefighters are trying to figure out what caused this fire at a former naval ship yard. They tweeted out the video overnight. Fire started a little before 11 00 at night. It took about three hours to put out. The ship yard is a National Landmark and was the first naval base on the west coast. We dont know the extent of the damage. Happening today a hearing in rome for one of marin county teenagers accused of killing a police. The teen on the righthand side will petition to be released from prison. Police say he assaulted an officer while his friend stabbed another officer several times killing him. Both teenagers are from mill valley. They say they didnt know the plain clothes officers were police. Off the production line on to the picket line. New video from detroit. One of the many places where gm workers are on strike. Union has been locked in a bitter contract dispute since july. Its one of the Biggest Union strikes in more than a decade. The bay shore freeway is jammed up. So far we havent seen a lot more traffic coming on 280, but that is one of your alternates. Folks are slower to get on the road in the south, but give yourself extra time not only because of the crash, but because of the slicker conditions. You dont know what is going to happen. Weve seen rain out ahead of this. This is the main system passing north to south. Were getting rain in santa rosa and were also seeing it up around clear lake. Its approving the golden gate br bridge. As youre driving this morning, its slippery in some spots. Towards dublin weve seen mist and drizzle. Low cloudiness producing some unfortunate slippery conditions for your drive. Make sure those windshield wipers are working before you head out the door. This is a look at our hour by hour forecast showing how the radar could look as we continue to track the rain down to the peninsula and reaching the south bay by about 9 00 this morning. This could be pockets of heavy rain, but most is really light. Heading toward noon the rest of the day is looking really nice. Were looking at trace amounts of rain up until a tenth of an inch. The high temperatures much cooler than normal, only reaching 75 in livermore and 73 in palo alto. Think about a few days ago when we had highs of over 100 degrees. Wednesday another system drops down and that could bring a slight chance of rain for north bay. Then we start to warm up by the end of the week into the weekend. Our temperatures go from the mid 70s today, chance of morning showers, sunshine and really nice tomorrow. A chance of rain in north bay wednesday. Then heating up for the weekend. Mike, youre tracking two important travel spots. Thats right, kari. Early commute comes through the tri valley. Thats where we had the early problems and then we have another in san jose which continues to be an issue. We take you to 680 northbound. Overnight about 2 00 in the morning when we had the mist, drizzle and slicker roadways, we have a jackknifed big rig that was hauling a load of propane. The fuel spill is a problem blocking all northbound lanes. Folks approaching mission have been getting off and taking niles canyon road. It continues to build. We show more and more back up through the windy area. Be careful. Maybe slicker roadways and its darker although the sun is coming up. That is an issue for the southbound commute direction as well. If you take 880, its a much easier route. 101 is building up where a crash is reportedly blocking two right lanes. That may be an issue. Overall the south bay looks all right. Thats because nbc news and stations all across the country are focusing on Climate Change and the impact it will have abroad and in the bay area. Kari hall kicks off our series ahead of next weeks global conference in new york. She has an indepth look at why whats happening is being watched so closely here in the San Francisco bay. Reporter this morning im focusing on melting glaciers and how theyre impacting the bay area and the world. In alaska glaziers are not only melting, but completely disappearing at an alarming rate. Warm temperatures are melting the surface of the glaciers a foot per day. Just a little insight on how hot things are getting up north we just witnessed alaska dealing with record high temperatures this past july. Heat soared into the 90s for several days. The state has warmed about four degrees in the last 50 years. Keep in mind thats about twice as much as the rest of the world. All of that warm weather is hitting artic regions the hardest. That includes greenland. We spoked with al roker and researchers from New York University on a mission to take a closer look at greenlands melting coast line. I asked them why all this matters to us. A lot of these places are not prepped for ocean level rise. Especially in the bay area, youve got a lot of old infrastructure. Any appreciable ocean level rise is going to be felt in your infrastructure. We just got word that the clean up for this 3,800 gallon fuel spill right here on 680 has just started. The clean up has just started because they had to do assessment of a hazmat issue. Were focusing on 680 where at just before 2 00 this morning a big rig jackknifed. Sounds like two rigs were involved in the crash. As a result on of its rigs got its fuel tank punctured. Its blocking 680 coming past mission. Chp said avoid northbound 680. You can get over toward 238 and niles canyon where youre looking at a jam. This is really bad this morning. It may become p complicated by unfamiliar with the area. In this back up between mission and vargas we have roz plater. Roz, whats the latest . Reporter were on the northbound freeway. The accident scene is just behind me. Im hear with chp officer tyler hahn. Whatre we facing . A bunch of clean up. We had almost 3,800 gallons of fuel spill. The rain is coming down and its a big clean up process. Reporter all lanes northbound shut down still for at least a few hours . Definitely a few hours. Not only northbound traffic is affected, but southbound traffic is stopped because everybody is looking over. Southbound traffic is usually slow to begin with. Reporter little rain falling. Do we think the weather played a part . The roadways were wet, but not for sure if that caused the collision. Reporter then basically weve got a little bit of a chain reaction. There was a collision that happened around 1 50 this morning involving a big rig. Then seconds later another big rig, the one carrying the fuel came along and struck that big rig. Reporter anybody injured . There were two other vehicles involved. Luckily no major injuries as far as we know. Reporter no fire . No. Reporter thats a good outcome for everybody. A long time for the clean up. Folks are going to be stuck in this for a while. The freeway is shut down at north mission. Everybody is being diverted there. If you can avoid 680, please do. Reporter mike, you have alternate routes for folks. The officer saying this may be hours. If you need to get to work, try to find a cut around and alternate route. Mike . Thats right, roz. Avoid 680. The officer said its closed right here at mission. Roz was stuck for over an hour and she was in the back up between mission and vargas where the jackknifed big rig and fuel spill has occurred. These folks are still stuck on the roadway. You will use mission over to niles or head over to 880 which is in the northbound direction clear up until you get towards dublin where there was an earlier fender bender. Its shifting the commute. No major problems for the south bay. 101 there is a crash and thats been cleared for the Early Morning commute. No major issues for the bay bridge. Kari, i was concerned about spin outs because light rain can cause that grease and oil to come up. Thats the reason we put out that micro climate warning. We see rain moving now into San Francisco, approaching oakland. It will be moving into the rest of the bay as we go into the next couple hours. As we track it on radar, the light rain is moving through San Francisco, richmond. Going into the rest of the day this continues to make its way further to the south. Well be watching for a few spots to get a little heavier rain. Most of us will see light rain moving through and its mostly for the morning. You can take mission toward the windy roadway to niles. Thats westbound highway 84. That gets you out of the area. Eastbound is jammed up. A mill valley man is locked up suspected of a crime spree that ended with a teenage stabbed and an uber driver hurt. Police say john rosales was a passenger in an uber when he punched the driver. A short time later police say he stabbed an 18yearold and took his cell phone. The teen is out of the hospital. The team is out of the hospital. Yesterday he turned himself over to police. We have new details on a fiery north bay crash that killed a young driver. This was yesterday. Investigators say the car smashed into a retaining wall and caught fire. The 16yearold driver died at the scene. Two other passengers, also 16, were sent to the hospital. No update on their injuries. Happening today nfl executives will meet with the woman who recently accused star wide receiver Antonio Brown of sex assault and rape. Brown made his debut yesterday with the new england patriots, the team he signed with after the raiders granted his request to be released. Last week browns former trainer Brittany Taylor filed a civil suit. She claims he sexually assaulted her and raped her several times over the two years they worked together in pittsburgh. Brown says it was all consensual. He was never criminally charged. Pleasant hill leaders plan to decide on the future of an old library as a new one is being built. County supervisors want to sell the land where the Current Library sits. They believe the time is right. The problem is Pleasant Hills new library wont be built for two years. It was a drone attack that resulted in a big fire in the Worlds LargestOil Processing facility in saudi arabia. They lost half of their production capacity. This has affected 5 of the worlds oil. While that may seem like a lot, its enough to drive prices upward. The big question is who is responsible for this. Yemen rebels claimed responsibility. Theyre backed by iran and the state department is pointi squarely at iran even though the president didnt go quite that far. The president is tweeting though now, well see. He says the u. S. Its been months since weve had measurable rain. Heavier rain approving San Francisco. Its making its way to the east bay where we saw the rain coming down across the bay bridge. As well its moving into San Francisco, crossing the bay toward oakland and richmond and moving closer to martinez. Well continue to keep an eye on that. Mostly light rain, but well see that coming along with gusty winds. Even though the rain is not that heavy we issued the micro climate weather alert. With that first rain, anything on the road starts to come to the surface. It makes it slippery and it will affect your morning commute. Into the 11 00 hour were seeing it move through, but by noon it will clear out. Well start to see the rain moving out and our skies clearing and it will be very comfortable. Breezy winds. Highs meeting the mid to upper 70s in the south bay. The east bay were reaching 74 and oakland reaching 70 degrees. San francisco staying in the 60s can gusty winds and t. Well see this move off towards the east and another right behind that. This is going to bring in another slight chance of rain for the north bay on wednesday. After that wre going to warm up. We have a couple storm systems moving across the pacific northwest. Its bringing us cooler than normal weather. Then were back into the upper 80s and more sunshine to come. Its a tough drive for the tri valley, mike. It is, kari. Its slow southbound 680 and westbound 480. Thats north of the incident closing northbound 680. You see the main commutes jammed up by the distraction over here. Northbound 680 closed right in the area of vargas because of a jackknifed big rig. Theres a huge fuel spill. You see this radar activity. Wet, damp roadways for your alternate off mission. Niles seeing a lot more traffic this morning. Roz plater is out there reporting from the scene. Its now raining in the area. Light rain, but its adding to the complications. You see that right there on 680 in freemont. 880 very clear. If you want to go north 880 to 580, go for it. I would do that. Its a longer route, but much simpler. This is expected to take hours to clean up the spill. Up here, highway 4 slows a bit. All the radar activity showing more activity and wet roads. We have the metering lights on on the bay bridge. Make sure you ease on to the brakes there. Heres the berkley curve. The reason were seeing some slowing is because visibility may be an issue. If the mist isnt even to clean the windshield, you have to use the wiper fluid. Make sure thats loaded in you car.
