Kris . Reporter this is the proposed site here, a former restaurant on hamilton avenue, just off highway 17. It is a busy thoroughfare here in the city of campbell. So heres what happened last night. This location can be used better with any other kind of business other than a drivethru. Reporter in the end, the Planning Commission voted 22, so they deadlocked and now the familyowned burger chain is asking for a full city council ew o that decision. Eir Statement Reads in part, this vote came after nearly two years of study and interaction with more than 500 members of the public, countless meetings and an agreement with the city of campbells Planning Department on over 50 thoughtful conditions of approval and 17 Environmental Impact report mitigation measures designed to minimize the impact of our footprint on our new neighborhood. While innout wants a review by the full council there is nothing on the schedule yet. I reached out to the city of campbell for reaction. Ill let you know what they have to say. A lot more 90s and even triple digits in the forecast, so ill have more on that coming up in a few minutes. Kari, ive taken over the palo alto camera here and darkened it. And good morning to you. It is a special day for everyone, of course but particularly for those who work in finance in new york who were so hard hit. Cantor fitzgerald lost 658 employees on this day. Two San Franciscobased companies here, both of them are laying off workers. Uber says its going to let 265 engineers go, 170 product managers as well. This comes on top of julys layoffs where many in the Marketing Team were laid off. Uber desperate to get out of the red. You might take a lot of uber rides but its losing a lot of money. On top of that, the California State Senate has passed a bill that would make contract workers like uber drivers employees. The house passed a similar bill earlier. This means once it goes through markup, it will go to the governors desk. The bill covers more than uber, of course. It also includes lyft and all kinds of other gig workers, the people who park your cars or deliver your food, those sorts, when you want to work jobs the Flexible Workforce has been critical to so many services. It may not stop there. The editor inchief of the San Francisco chronicle Audrey Cooper says it may affect paper delivery routes. She says newspapers which are barely making money may not be able to afford it. Cooper writes Assembly Bill five will probably sound the death knell for some printed versions of california newspapers. Of course apple showed off new phones, a new ipad and watch, and other things at an event in cupertino. They lost their lustre. People are not buying phones like they used to because theres not that rush and certainly no end. The most notable thing is the iphone 11 with three lenses. Theyre sticking with a numbering system. We were at 10. Now were to 11, well move on from there. 13, who knows. Two takeaways, first of all their cheapest new phone is much cheaper than it used to be, so the prices in that sense are coming down. Maybe theyre trying to attract people to at least theyre not selling the new phones. Were talking about a thousand dollar phone that doesnt do a ton of stuff that your old phone did. You got to bring the price down. The other thing apple is looking at instead of selling phones is selling Services Like the apple tv subscription, like news, like apple music, and you combine all the things you can get from apple in a month, you pay them 55 bucks a month. So that may be a revenue stream in the future. Right. Have to keep expanding. Trending this morning, if military men tickle your fancy kfc might have the thing for you. Or if you are winning, do you get free kfc . Thats a better question. Rather have chicken than the colonel. Right. Shows up with one of the mac and cheese chicken things. How are you doing . So lets get out the door this morning. Weve been talking about some hotter weather and its going to feel hotter than hot grease outside in the trivalley this weekend. We take a live look in dublin, were getting out the door to a cool start with a lot of upper 50s here, and then take a look at that sevenday forecast. It is already up at the bottom of the screen. You can see whats coming our way. Dont say i didnt tell you about it, so lets get out there and enjoy today. So if youre planning to head out to the giants game today, we do have some nice weather very much like it was last night if you went out there. First pitch at 6 45 will be at 69 degrees and mid60s but there have been some storm systems moving across the pacific northwest. As we go into the rest of the week, this High Pressure blocks that cool air from coming down to the bay area, and High Pressure puts a high amount of pressure on the surface, so that means the air is sinking. Our temperatures peak on friday, but it will continue moving on, so we will see our temperatures go up and then back down by the end of the weekend. Here is a look at our sevenday forecast. We had a cool start to the week. Today some of our hottest spots are up to about 90 degrees, then 101 on friday, some dangerous heat quickly moving in, and then moving back out early next week. Were back to our upper 70s for highs. Mike, youre back to that crash on the peninsula. Thats right, kari. The good news update, henry at our desk made some calls, found out there are no major injuries, thats the good news. Southbound highway 101 still loses two lanes, thats the bad news. Youre jammed up a bit coming in to menlo park and palo alto here. We had East Palo Alto pd as well as menlo park pd and the San Mateo Sheriffs Office being called, thats why i was concerned. This should clear hopefully from the roadway pretty quickly. We do have the backup that formed and again the update no major injuries southbound 101 at university. 280 through the same aa clearing and the rest of the bay looks great as far as the traffic flows. Good recovery for north87, the earlier crash at curtner cleared from the northbound side. Still slow from highway 85 now the build because folks are now starting to really leave that almaden area. Here at westbound highway 4 slows out of antioch, pittsburg and bay point. A mild build south through concord and walnut creek for 680. And im marcus washington. Right now we want to get a look at our forecast here in the bay area. Meteorologist kari hall has been tracking those temperatures as theyre starting to creep, creep, creep up. Yes, its going to be slightly warmer today as we take a live look at the start of our day at the golden gate bridge, just some very fine layers of fog rolling by. Well see a lot more sunshine today and temperatures starting out cool, but going into the very warm tritoryhis afternoon. In concord were reaching up to about 86 degrees. At 2 00 this afternoon highs well make it up to 91 there. Well see some upper 80s in the trivalley, mid 80s in the south bay and the north bay up to about 85 degrees in santa rosa. So well talk more about whats ahead and a look to the weekend, in about six minutes and mike, youre still tracking that slowing in palo alto. Unfortunately its because of a crash southbound 101, taking a while to completely clear. Looks like they opened another lane with the flashing lights, you still see them behind the trees, south 101 south of willow but before you get to university. We see a little bit of slowing on our maps still and also have traffic feeding over now really bogging down the vlad section of the san mateo bridge, that will start to smooth out over the next 20 minutes. That indicates how much traffic will be headed over on that route here, we showed you both cameras by both arrows and where we see the slower drives. The dumbarton bridge also is just fine and it will join 101 south of where we showed the crash. The south bay sorting itself out after the earlier crash cleared at 87 and there are cars on the shoulder curtner on the northbound side. The bay bridge under a half hour from highway 4 to the backups and the metering lights. New overnight, fremont leaders decided where to put a controversial Homeless Center. A number of people arent very happy with the decision. Bob redell joins us live in fremont this morning with some reaction. Bob . As you can see hundreds of people voiced their opinion at last nights City Council Meeting for and against the project, this is an issue residents have been fighting over for months. The Housing Navigation center will be a 45bed facility supposed to provide Homeless People a place to live and help them transition to jobs and permanent housing. Some felt dacoto road location lacked Transportation Options and too close to schools. Others feel the City Hall Location will make the downtown too crowded and the third group of people who dont want the Navigation Center in fremont at all. Today the whole meeting, you know, i heard the buzzword, experiment. How can you do this, waste all this taxpayers money for an experiment . Not acceptable. We already have unhoused people on our streets, and thats something we have to deal with. We cant just imagine that theyre not there and assume they go away. Reporter Kimberly Peterson is the Fremont Police chief pointed out at the meeting Homeless People are already in fremont, regardless of where the Navigation Center will be. She says were not bringing them here, theyre already here. The cost to build and operate the center is 7. 7 million. Its expected to be up and running by june of next year. He will pursue all legal remedies to not only clear his name, but to also protect other professional athletes against false accusations. Taylor also released a statement, it says in part as a rape victim of Antonio Brown, deciding to speak out has been an incredibly difficult decision. Speaking out removes the shame that i have felt for the past year and places it on the person responsible for my rape. Brown and his attorney both call it a consensual relationship. Browns new team, the patriots, say that the nfl is now investigating and under no circumstance do they condone any type of Sexual Assault. A followup for you now. B. A. R. T. Manhattans 9 11 memorial also dedicated a new section to those who died from 9 11 related diseases. Thats right. Hes set to honor the victims the there. When he does arrive, we hope to hear from him soon. Well take you back there live and take to you San Francisco, a memorial going on there. In just a few minutes at about 6 45 this morning. In the meantime, we want to check the morning commute with mike, see how things are moving out there, or not. A lot better now. Actually this is highway 101, the arrow shows you where the earlier crash was blocking the lanes, just cleared a few minutes ago. Also in the top the overpass at willow. Maybe not that particular overpass, but on days like today especially today, you may see an American Flag displayed on the freeways as well, overcrossings and take a second to remember, but also focus on the traffic flow. Dont get too distracted. Were showing you the major remembrances around the bay as they continue and looking at the build, pretty typical around most of the traffic flow. Its lighter today and northbound 87 a chance to recover a bit. North 101 where the arrow is, there is a crash reported on the shoulder at capital expressway. The bay bridge toll plaza actually a little bit more loosely packed than it was 20 minutes ago. Thats loosely packed. Kind of looked tight to me, but all right. Today a lot of people are wondering okay, is the heatup going to happen today, a little bit later today . It starts today, just a few degrees, but well really feel it tomorrow. By the weekend, were past the peak of the heat but it will still be hot. Look at inland temperatures reaching 96 degrees, so if youre planning to head to the beach, much cooler there, with some low 70s and the bay reaching about 85 degrees. And then the cooldown starts to really happen as we head towards sunday. Were going to see some mid highs there for the inland areas, the bay at 78 degrees, and some upper 60s for the coast, as we look at some cooler weather there. The blackeyed pea festival will be happening in oakland on saturday. This was an event i enjoyed last year, and its still going to be warm out there for that saturday forecast, so maybe get there a little bit earlier for some milder weather. If youre going to be in the trivalley, expect highs up to 101 degrees on friday, but by sunday, its feeling much better, with some low 80s. In the sierra, were going to see a lot of sunshine, and staying comfortable with mid70s on saturday, and then coming down to the High Temperature of 68 degrees on sunday, Half Moon Bay keeps it cool, especially for the weekend, with mid60s on saturday and sunday, and not too bad for hiking in muir woods, but it will be quite warm on friday, and then saturday temperature reaching 75 degrees. If youre planning to head to paso robles this weekend, a heads up it is going to be really hot there reaching up to 103 degrees, as those temperatures there peak on saturday, and 91 degrees on sunday. A cool start to the day, but we make up for it this afternoon at 81 degrees at 1 00. It will be slightly warmer today but much warmer tomorrow. A look at that in the forecast in less than five minutes. And in the last five minutes, we see this, look, hey, tow truck arrived. Its in the service lane doing service, thats why its a good thing, west 92 shows more slowing toward the peninsula, and also getting down there south 880 at the bottom a little build toward highway 84, the dumbarton bridge. Right now as many people remember what happened 18 years ago, there are many ceremonies remembering the victims from the 9 11 terror attacks. Now a live look at sfo this morning, where theres bound to be more frustrated travelers. We did check with the airport this morning. It says that 61 flights have already been canceled so far today, due to that ongoing runway repair project. Sfo says those cancellations were already planned. The work with those runways is supposed to be finished september 26th. President trump often criticizes San Francisco for its homeless problem. New this morning, scott mcgrew, he may do something about it. This is big. The feds, marcus, may move in, clean up the problem weve proven we cant. The washington post, the wall street journal both reporting officials from the federal government have a preliminary plan to remove homeless encampments and move the homeless into shelters or other facilities owned by the national government. Beyond that, we dont know much. The reports say officials have already toured skid row in los angeles, but San Francisco is in those plans as well. It wouldnt be the first time that the feds stepped in to try to fix San Francisco. Earlier this summer, the u. S. Attorneys office announced a new federal policing program to try to get rid of drugs in the tenderloin. President trump will be in San Francisco next week. The other big news of course is washington once again without a National Security adviser, as john bolton has either been fired or resigned. He is the third National Security adviser in less than three years. Thats never happened before in american history. Here is secretary of state mike pompeo speaking about bolton. Last night the president asked for ambassador boltons resignation. As i understand it, it was received this morning. You heard the secretary of state say trump asked bolton to step down, so you could say bolton got fired monday night, except we in the media had gotten a notification bolton would be speaking with pompeo yesterday late morning. Why would they schedule a security meeting with a fellow they fired the night before . It was this press conference that you just saw a security briefing we were told was going to happen at 1 30 washington time. The president s tweet saying bolton would leave came just an hour and a half before this, which would be better explained if bolton had resigned voluntarily, surprising the white house, which had already scheduled him for meetings that day. We do know bolton and the president disagreed about inviting the taliban to america. The president wanted to. He tweeted that. Bolton thought it was a terrible idea to invite the taliban, the terror group, to the United States in the days before 9 11. Stanfords Condoleezza Rice will be on the today show at 7 00. I vividly remember when i first heard the news. I was sitting at home, watching a Major BusinessTelevision Show early that morning, jack welch, the legendary head of general electric, was about to be interviewed, when all of a sudden, they cut away. At first, there were different reports. It was a boiler fire, but i knew that boilers arent at the top of a building. It was a kitchen explosion in windows on the world. Nobody really knew what happened. There was great confusion. I was looking out of a window from a building in midtown man hat on it directly at the World Trade Center, when i saw the second plane at a tremendous speed go into the second tower. It was then that i realized the world was going to change. I was no longer going to be and it could never, ever be that innocent place that i thought it was.
