New overnight, a bangup mess along one san jose neighborhood after a driver plowed through a bunch of cars you see right there and this morning witnesses say that driver took off running. Today in the bays roz plater is live at moorpark at saratoga. We have to ask, is anybody hurt . Reporter yes, indeed somebody was taken to the hospital, we dont know how badly hurt but you can see some of this wreckage is still out here this morning. Look at that car, just twisted, the back end of it twisted, thats an suv, and it plowed into the vehicle in front of it. Now lets show you the scene from just after this happened, all of this went down just before 11 00 last night in the 3900 block of moorpark. Witnesses tell us it appears a truck crashed into at least half a dozen cars parked along the street here. Some of them had pretty extensive damage. One man told us the crash sass so loud at first he thought the vehicle had struck their apartment building. The truck wound up flipped over and completely upside down. The guy ended up getting out of the truck that flipped and took off running. How, i dont know, because it looked like a pretty bad accident. Reporter that witness says at least one person he saw was taken to the hospital. Were trying to find out more information from police about the status of that person taken to the hospital as well as what happened to that driver who witnesses say took off running after the crash. Residents reported seeing the fliers near storefronts in the downtown area near their Safeway Store there and at least a dozen other stores in places around san Martin High School campus. Earlier a group called the American Identity Movement posted fliers around san jose state university. The fliers had slogans like nationalism not globalism, and Diversity Destroys nations. The group is known for trying to recruit young people, but all the fliers were taken down before classes started this week. Other racist fliers and stickers were posted at San Diego State university. Many say they were terrified, but they tried to remain calm. Seven passengers, including two children, were taken to hospitals to be treated for smoke inhalation. This morning, claims burning man is death to disabilities. Well also see a high of 90 in milpitas today and up to 91 in walnut creek. Hayward reaching 82, and some upper 60s in half moon bay. San mateo reaching 80 degrees. San francisco mostly in the upper 60s, and lower 70s, and the north bay napa today reaching 89. Santa rosa up to 87 degrees. So we have High Pressure thats just sitting right over the bay area, and it will slowly move over the weekend, in fact it gets even hotter as we approach the end of the weekend, as we get more of a northerly wind, as that High Pressure moves just to the west of us, and that keeps us from really getting an onshore wind flow, so its going to be heating up especially along the coastline and expect some warm temperatures out there tomorrow, if youre going to the as and the giants game. The bay bridge series is going to reach into the mid70s at the time the game starts but then cool off nicely fort evening. Our sevenday forecast looks like this, a lot of 90s over the next few days. Our temperatures staying on the high side and peaking on monday. We see some 80s in the forecast, and thats actually cooling off, but still well above normal, and for San Francisco, were looking at some upper 60s and low 70s over the next several days there. At times the clouds and the fog moves in, but it looks like well see a little bit more fog early tomorrow morning, highs reaching 69 degrees. Headed over to mike, youve been tracking a new update and now more info on the crash on highway 101. Thats right. As we look at the south bay, this portion, Silicon Valley just fine. Here is highway 101, typical at speed through san jose, coming in to san jose out of south county we have this unexpectedly slow drive northbound. The update we have from the chp is the crash involving the motorcycle and the rider everything and everyone off to the Center Divide so now its a distraction. You see speeds right there going from red to orange, starting to improve, as you are passing by dunn toward the crash, just shy of cochrane. The backup continues to build almost five miles of slowing, unexpected as you travel north past san martin avenue, out of san martin and into morgan hill for north 101. Everything else here on this map north of san jose looks great. This crash here is reported in lanes north 880 right around 23rd. Well track that. It should quickly get to the shoulder. Joseph deangelo is charged with 13 counts of murder as police linked him via dna evidence. Happening today, the man aus couped of killing bay area native Mollie Tibbetts in iowa is expected in court. It is focused on giving Christhian Rivera a speedy trial. Earlier a judge granted delay on whether his alleged confession will be allowed as evidence during his trial. Tibbetts attended the university of iowa. She had gone out for a jog when she disappeared. That case sparked political backlash when it was learned that that suspect is undocumented. Destructive students might soon get a break in california where it comes to punishment. A bill is one step closer to the governors desk. It would cover kindergarten through middle school students. It would ban suspensions for disobedience and prevent students of any grade from being expelled for that reason. This week, state assembly approved it. Now the state senate will hear it. A 30,000 theft turns into a highspeed chase. Thats what deputies say happened yesterday in santa cruz. This started when someone noticed two men breaking into a family cycling center. This is Surveillance Video after deputies say the thieves made off with bikes and a rental van. Deputies spotted them a short time later and chased them into aptos. The suspects then ditched the van and made a run for it but deputies caught up with them. A followup for you now on a fight to keep milpitas Theater Company performing. Center stage has used the citys Community Center theater for seven years but this summer the city didnt renew their contract. A resolution is now in the works. New this morning, google is unveiling its closeup look at its proposed mega campus in downtown san jose. City leaders voted earlier this year to approve an 11acre land sale to the tech giant. So take a look at the map, the development is planned for an area near diridon station and the s. A. P. Center. If you look at the map it shows us how google is going to use that land, the areas in blue all of these areas here are going to be office buildings, about 10,000 square feet of office space. The orange areas here and spread out about, those are going to be housing units. Google is planning to have between 3,000 and 5,000 living space there is on the campus, and the purple areas represent hotel space and also retail buildings as well. The company says it plans to employ about 25,000 people at that new site. However, neighborhood groups are hoping that perhaps there might be more jobs than that. Some neighborhoods though say also they are against the plan. Theyre worried lowincome residents will be forced out. 5 35 and some moments of terror for kids and parents during what had been a routine youth football practice in hayward. There was a shooting at my sons football practice just now. Cell phone video taken by a mother, seconds after shots were fired yesterday. It happened at sorendale park behind tennison high school. A 17yearold was hit by the gunfire. He is expected to survive but one parent says three pop warner teams were practicing along with the cheer squad. We heard a gunshot and we looked, girls were screaming. We were practicing and coaches just told us to like hide. Three men were seen running from a park restroom after that shooting but so far police have not announced any arrests. Happening now, firefighters appear to be making headway on a wildfire threatening homes near lake shasta. The mountain fire started yesterday morning, north of redding. As of last night, it was 20 contained with about 600 acres burned. The fire did destroy one structure. Its threatening hundreds of other homes, though still. We met one family who lost their home to a fire a decade ago in san ramon, and they briefly found themselves reliving that same nightmare in shasta county. I was upset at the beginning but im a lot calmer now, knowing that my house is still standing. Late last night, authorities started letting evacuees into some areas, back into their homes but the situation is said to be fluid and some areas still have no power this morning. In Contra Costa County, a serial arsonist still on the loose after setting fire to a car with a woman trapped inside. The story we first brought you yesterday here on today in the bay. And this morning, were getting a good look at a person of interest. Take a look at this photo police releasing this of the man you see right here. Police dont know if hes connected to the car arson. They just want to ask him questions. Here is another picture. This shows the burned out car. Police say that woman was sleeping inside when someone torched the car in a parking lot along san pablo avenue. She had to break the window to escape and suffered severe burns. It was one of the latest in a slew of arsons in el cerrito and richmond areas in the last few days. Most of those fires were small, set to bushes as well as garbage bins. 5 37 right now. It is friday, meaning a lot of people looking forward to some r r this weekend. Not to mention relief the work week is over but one man is proving even at 98, he doesnt need a day off necessarily. The rest of the bay looks fine but we have this slowing look at that from 66th up to 29th, where that vehicle that spun out is still in the middle of the roadway waiting for a tow truck. Thats tough.
