Reporter a lot of people are coming together at this time after the shooting which is a tragedy for this community. Here at this Elementary School it is the familiar Assistance Center opening at 9 00 and offering resources to anyone effected, vendors to victims and they could get resources and group counselling and climb items that they left behind on sunday night because that festival scene is now a crime scene that the fbi is processing. Now we want to take you to downtown gilroy where businesses are helping victims in a different way. Theyre selling shirts that say gilroy strong for 20 and the money will go to victim and their families. One of the businesses is the tshirt place. The owner tells us this is an effort to unite the community and send a message to those coping with tragedy that they are not alone. Everybody is having a hard time with it. But theyre trying to move forward and lend a hand wherever it is needed in order to help themselves and the people who need it. Reporter and 500 shirts are being printed to start. Buy them tshirt place, Windermere Real Estate and there is a vigil planned for 7 00 on thursday in downtown gilroy and the owner of the store we spoke to told us he made shirts for the gilroy garlic festival and to have to make them for a mass shooting is just really tough and really sad. In the meantime, new at 11 00, when the clair count fair opens later this week there will be a substantial increase in security in response to what happened in gilroy. The director of the fair said the Sheriffs Office has agreed to take control of the security and deputies will have a heavy presence on the fair grounds. In the years past security was about 80 private security, 20 Law Enforcement. This year they expect security to be mostly Law Enforcement. The fair has not received any threats but does want to take all precautions after sundays shooting at the gilroy garlic festival. The assurance is that we are enhancing again the numbers of security and that security being our Santa Clara County sheriffs, being out in numbers and in force and they will be out in view. So that folks will know that they will see them and in all directions, theyll be onsite and around all of the areas, activities that are happening throughout the four days as well. All fairgoers have to pass through metal detectors and have bags checked which is standard for years. It opens thi thursday and runs through sunday. Celebrating the 75th anniversary and does plan to do something to recognize the victims of the gilroy shooting. Now it is an allday event to focus on dealing with an active shooter on a School Campus but this training could be applied to any situation. Of course, this is important when you take into account what took place in gilroy. And i spoke with the San Ramon Police captain who said regardless of the venue First Responders have to be on the same page when it comes to the potential of a mass shooting. So Training Like today goes along way in making sure theyre prepared. With what happened on sunday evening in gilroy it just takes added importance. We need to be ready should the incidences occur in our area and we want to make sure were properly trained and ready to respond as quickly as possible. And some of the temperatures actually a little bit cooler than normal for the end of july. So you really cant complain about this kind of weather when weve had such hot temperatures recently.
